  • can you wipe win10 to save few bucks? I'll put linux on it anyway.

    • I'm guessing no since they're refurbs. Licence is already allocated to the box, can't be reused elsewhere.

  • i am totally newbie, just wonder, will this strong enough or, will this run the photoshop and lightroom? i am a photographer. Can someonekindly share some light. Thank you in advance. :)

I'd strongly advise buying anything from Australian Computer Traders.

The machine I ordered in January arrived loose (by that I mean the case wasn't screwed together properly and the DVD drive was not secured). Not longer after I found it constantly crashed a few minutes after boot.

Getting an RMA was a nightmare. Filled in the form online as directed, no RMA number/confirmation ever came. When I spoke to one of their staff members via phone he was very blunt and unhelpful. Had to get a mate in Brisbane to go into their store and demand instructions. They just said "send it back". It was then sent back at my own expense.

One of their techs got back to me quickly and advised the RAM was faulty; it would be swapped, tested and returned. They said it would be "sent back today". Over a week went by and no parcel arrived, so I called them to find out what the go was. "Oh, it's still here, we haven't sent it yet". Seriously? No apology, nothing. Just the impression they didn't really care enough to get it back to me.

Eventually I got it back and it's all working well.

If these machines are truly "refurbished", why wasn't the RAM issue picked up? Seems to me they just re-image the drives and send them without actually performing any real checks or tests.

tl;dr: do not buy anything from these clowns.

Why didn't you just return via eBay return process and use free PayPal return shipping?
If there are any issues eBay mediates.

They rectified the issue for you and sent back the computer. Had you followed the instructions above, you would have saved yourself heaps of time and effort.

I have personally bought over 50-60 computers from these guys with no issues.

      • "Had you followed the instructions above, you would have saved yourself heaps of time and effort."

I had no idea such a thing existed.

"I have personally bought over 50-60 computers from these guys with no issues."

        Congratulations, here's a medal.

So you've purchased over 50 PCs from these guys and were happy with them, but the last one wasn't and it's enough for you to not recommend them anymore?

          @FeZZa21:

          Huh?

I was quoting another commenter who said he’s purchased 50 PC’s.

you're a smart bloke. I just taught you about how to use eBay to expedite returns and you negged me?
you'll go far in life buddy!

You are crying over them taking a week to fix the RAM? That's not exactly the shortest RMA ever, but it's not exactly a long one.

And you also complain that you didn't get a sorry from them for taking a week, opposed to the day they said? Did you also want that they kissed your sore knee for the trouble of computer components needing repair from time to time?

To me it like you have unrealistic expectations of what purchasing refurbished hardware well outside the original warranty is like. The courier could have gone over a speedbump a little fast causing the screw to torque little to the left and unseat some RAM to the point that a bit of thermal expansion might short some pins.

For all the time it took you to write that up you could have learned how to test RAM and tested it.

As you've obviously misinterpreted what I said, I'll clarify here.

Once the computer arrived back at their store, it was attended to quickly. The tech got back to me within a day or two and advised the RAM issue, and then stated he'd get it out in that day's post. Over a week went by, no parcel arrived. Called them back and found they hadn't even bothered putting it the post.

My issue is not with the length of time to perform repairs, it's the time between repairs being finalised and making the effort to get it back to me. Additionally, it's the rudeness, lack of after-sales service, difficulty in getting in contact (or receiving replies) and surly staff members.

"To me it like you have unrealistic expectations of what purchasing refurbished hardware well outside the original warranty is like."

Nah, I don't have unrealistic expectations.

I had a look at their warranty terms and it states 90 days return to base warranty.

Seems to me that they went beyond their own terms to post it back to you.

I would say you do have unrealistic expectations, you seem to think that they should have the same level of service as Apple when you bought a $200 used computer.

          Nah.
