    Got the JDM SARB033 and SARB017 over the weekend as i read they got discontinued. Originally planned to get them while I'm there in May but fear of not being able to find them got me to impulse buy.

    Looking for an sbbn031, seems that these websites dont have it :(

          This thread cost me big time… Ozbargain strikes again!
          After looking high and low for a quality Seiko automatic, I got fixated with the SARB017.
          Managed to use the current 10% off everything on Ebay, but even with that Ebay advised it would be around $570Aud and it actually turned into $593Aud (delivered) after paypal got involved. Went ahead anyway as it's the one that I really wanted and was the last one from that seller. Could have used the 20% off everything discount that was on a little while ago!
          Can't wait to get my paws on it :)

          I assume you didnt use a fee free credit card like bankwest zero or 28 degrees? Never use paypal conversion rates.

          Dont worry about the price, you could always sell the watch for the same amount or more, provided it's in new-ish condition

          That's right, I don't have a fee free card so got stung by paypal. I didn't want to dilly dally around though as there aren't that many available and I had my heart set on it. I'll blame it on the FOMO :)

          Now trying to choose a strap or bracelet for it. Are you sticking with the original?
          I watched a youtube with a really nice brown leather band that seemed to make the watch pop very nicely, the bracelets look great also.
          Olive coloured straps look really good with it too. Decisions decisions…

    watch noob here, is #1 a good price for what it is? would you recommend it in terms of quality and features? really don't know much about watches so any advise would be great

      Seiko 5 autos are good. Many have glass backs as does the one you noted. Never have to change a battery, only maybe get adjusted to keep accurate time. Or adjust a minute every couple of days manually.

      Most important thing is. Do you like the look of the watch? Is it going to look far too small or large on your wrist?

        love the look of it, went through all 100 of them and its my favourite looking, I think the size should be fine, have a 40mm hugo boss watch and it fits well, 38 should sit well as well, thanks for the advice

    Wondering how the Seiko quality is these days? Back as a poor high school student Seiko and TIssots were my sort of watch. I never ended up buying my first Seiko but went with Tissot. Obviously just standard quartz and cheap price.

    Next watches ended up being more upmarket, got a Maurice Lacroix. Recent times I've wanted to go more for reasonable affordable fashion and quality that lasts given the design e.g. a quartz that lasts/works well with battery, nothing flashy (obviously can't compare to an automatic swiss watch).

    Are the Seiko movements japanese? Or cheap chinese and quality wise? I was looking at the whole online movement of watches that are more dress, fast fashion i.e. MVMT watches, Daniel Wellington etc and wondering how these compare price wise to the old stalwarts like Seiko and TIssots these days?

      There are many watches here 101 TISSOT Watches cheaper than a full-priced Daniel Wellington. Nothing in Daniel Wellington's range features sapphire crystal.

        I've never bought a watch online before but like retail is it an easy cause of knocking out the little bar to remove links? And so sizing isn't an issue? otherwise is there a general guide to measuring ones wrist and ensuring it fits prior to ordering?

          That said my Maurice was a sapphire and got a scuff when i knocked onto the corner/edge of a study table relatively new in life. hard to see but i know it's there if i look for it.. so i'm not too sure how scratch proof sapphire really is..

      SKX is rarely discounted. You're best waiting for an ebay code of 15%.

      Turtle has pretty much bottomed out now the hype is over and trickle feeding us with LE's and new editions. Again probably watch ebay, get to know your prices and then wait for a code. Check creation, sometimes their regular prices are good and can get a J model cheap - but prices tend to fluctuate.

          Yes. If you're interested in any particular watch, definitely check out the grey market sellers. FYI you can get decent Swiss autos at affordable prices these days. Also, there are numerous Turtle homages available that are cheaper and have better specs eg. ceramic, sapphire, bronze. You can even get an SKX that has better specs than the original. Plenty Seiko 62MAS homages popping up now too. Micro-brands are a whole other world… PM if you want any more information.

          Yes, sizing is not an issue and YouTube has numerous videos for guidance if required. I bought my tools on eBay and they were inexpensive. Otherwise, there is always Mister Minit or the equivalent.
