I've been weighting for a sale on some new scales

Can we make a rule that if you're going to add a "source", that you at least tell us what you used the source to do, i.e. in this case the source provides an original price and the drop amount so maybe include "WAS $30 NOW $9.90" if you're going to list (advertise) a source that is irrelevant until such connection is made.

    • It's Pretty obvious…

        What's pretty obvious?

So I should quote a source that I really want to advertise whenever I post a deal? That's not obvious.

Nothing in your post is sourced from PriceHipster.

        • +2

Since Price Hipster's job is to help people find deals* I assume it was used to find this deal.

          *Source: I created Price Hipster.

I don't understand why you think nocure would lie about that.

        • @jazoom:

Yes. So how does finding something and posting to the link have anything to do with posting Price Hipster? It doesn't.

If I use Google to find deals, would I post "Source: Google" or would I just state the website that I visited?

Feel free to source things, I love Price Hipster, but don't advertise it for no reason. This is obvious.

          @StoneSin:

You'll have to ask OP for their reasons but I frequently see other sources mentioned such as Top Bargain, a store's catalogue, etc.

I don't ask people to do this but I suppose it's their way of saying thanks for all the work that goes into making these sources so we can all find more deals.

Since you mentioned Google, you might be interested to read about their recent legal case regarding sources for their image search.

@jazoom: Yes. But if you're going to use a tool which displays prices, at least provide some more info as to what the tool gave you that the link didn't. OP didn't.

read about their recent legal case regarding sources for their image search.

I heard about that and it's effects affect me every day. :(

        • @StoneSin:
I use a lot of different "sources" to find deals to post for ozbargain members and I will always give credit if it's required. I find a lot of products thanks to PH and jazoom as do a lot of people and feel he deserves recognition, so if you have an issue with that feel free to hide the deals.

        • +1

@nocure: And I do appreciate it. I wouldn't know it was helpings you find deals if you guys didn't credit Price Hipster, and that would be sad since me seeing how Price Hipster is helping people find these deals is what keeps me working to improve it day and night.

        • -1

@nocure: That's called advertising. It's okay, you're allowed to be a shill for things.

        • -1

@jazoom: Yes you would. Logs, statistics, use cases. You think Google doesn't know if you use their website?

To be fair who has ever bought a $10 bathroom scale and thought - hey I better post a positive review about this $10 scale on a review site.

      • +2

I have this exact same scale, and it's brilliant. Never had an inaccurate reading.

        • -1

          Because you are featherweight :P

        • @bargainparker:

I'm 77 kg, use it several times a week, owned for about a year or so. Not one issue.

        • @MrZ:

          That was a joke.

        • To add further, it also has 3 year warranty.

          Taken from whirlpool

Propert from Bunnings. Step on to turn on, nice big back lit LCD display that turns off in 30 (?) seconds once you get off the scale.

Repeatability? 100%. I can step on and step off as many times as I like and the scales read the each time same.

Accuracy? It shows my two 5kg weights as 10kg. If I get on the scales holding both weights the readout has increased by 10kg. The scales are also in general agreement with the scales at the local hospital, although I've not done a side by side comparison. That might raise a few eyebrows in the medical statistics dept!

Good enough for me, of course I might just have fluked purchasing the only one in the shop that worked properly.

          edit
One thing to take care with, many bathroom scales are really sensitive to the surface you put them on. The instructions with the Propert warned that if used on say a timber floor just moving them around could change the reading, and it did. I move the reading by +/- 300g just by moving the scales around on the floor. The Propert reads consistently and accurately on the concrete floor of the carport, so that's where it sits.

But he could be talking about a more expensive model? Edit: he mentioned in the thread that it was $30 hmm

Thanks OP this will be handy to measure the weight currently on my shoulders.

  • Probably the cheapest way to get your wife from 0 to 100…

  • Will go well with the Reeces peanut butter chips that are 1/2 price at woolies this week
