5m HDMI Cable - High Speed with Ethernet and 4K ($7.20 Delivered @ SELBY)

870
Zipsave20

Was looking for some 5m cables to run in the wall for my TV. This was the cheapest I could find. $9 delivered to Melbourne.

Even though the site doesn't mention 4K anywhere, I have bought 2x and can confirm they work perfectly fine with 4K HDR content (tested with Xbox One X gaming, and also Planet Earth 2 with HDR).

Enjoy!

UPDATE: Yellow is out of stock but the red cable is still in stock. Use the coupon code as noted below by wikiwiki.

Also, I tried PayPal as a method and it didn’t work so used Credit Card and went through. UPDATE: seems PayPal works for some so try it first.

  • You haven't got the price in the title ( or anywhere)

Edit, sorry I read it as $9 delivery.

If you could wait - cheaper here delivered from china for $6.48

Don't forget if you feel like getting totally ripped off Gerry has -
Monster Black Platinum Ultimate High Speed 9ft HDMI Cable $229.00

      $6 for delivery? No deal!

    • +4

Can't believe they're still trying to flog monster cable at those prices. Unbelievable. Some poor bastards must still get talked into believing they're worthwhile.

      • +3

        Totally agree, so sad.

As long as its a High Speed cable it can handle all the latest specs of devices out now. The shielding might matter with distances over 10M, but anything with 5m and under….go for glory and pick anything!

That being said, these cables are THICK, so they seem JUICY and repellant to interferance!

        • +1

Thick and juicy, like the customers wallet seems to the HN salesman …

      • but the ones and zeros will arrive platinum plated with the better cables

      Key Features
This Monster HDMI cable enables you to enjoy crystal clear, ultra HD 4K 1080p high definition television.

      What??

      • Don't most HDMI cables advertised in retail stores state something similar?

    • +1

Gerrys hardly carrying professional grade stuff. Ok for general consumer but the best kit comes from the States.

You'd think at that price, the picture should at least be clear.

      • And at least 10,000 Thai special happy endings

      • +1

Probablty not clear because your computer or ipad doesnt have a monster hq cable linking the display from the graphics chip.

I bought it to ensure the highest quality DVD playback.

I've bought quite a few assorted cables from Selby (on ebay) and I'm very happy with the cables as well as the service. Highly recommended.

  • Should be OK for 4K, if possible instal in 40mm min conduit for upgrades later like HDMI 2.1.

    • Definitely is OK 👍🏼

      $9 includes delivery.

    • Cheers. This is a nice replacement as Shelby is OOS.

What does it mean for a HDMI cable to have ethernet? Does it mean it can be used to connect to internet?

    • +2

For devices that support it, yes.

      https://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/hec.aspx

      • That's interesting to know. Guess I need to upgrade all my HDMI cables to make my setup better.

        • +1

Make sure your devices support it first

        • @spaceflight: good luck finding anything that supports it

    • Won't you need a modem as well?? I didn't know this fancy new HDMI cable can connect directly to the Internet?

      • If you have an active internet service, you will not need an extra modem. Did you mean 'router'?

    • +6

Honestly hearing that they would give a compensation just because delivery was a little late makes me think better of the company rather than worse.

Were you hoping they would have given you a full refund and also kept the product? That's.. bold.

      • Were you hoping they would have given you a full refund and also kept the product? That's.. bold.

Nope, I wasn't hoping for anything from them, and was surprised they wanted to bribe me to remove my honest review.

Also note, I did not neg this deal, I was just saying that I don't recommend them. The service was poor until I reviewed my purchase, after which they wanted me to remove my review.

You might as well buy hardware online, where it's cheaper, or go to a better store like addictedtoaudio if you want service.
As a poster above stated, this cable is cheaper at officeworks.

        • Calling it a bribe is a bit much. You expressed dissatisfaction with their service and they tried to remedy the situation and make you, the customer, happy.

I also bet you never contacted them to express you dissatisfaction, but rather went straight to giving negative feedback.

        • @ILikeBargenz: nope,I reached out a few times.
At least they didn't post my real name in public on retaliation for the feedback.

        • @idonotknowwhy:

So they refused to offer any remedy when you contacted them initially? And only after you gave negative feedback they offered a remedy?

        • @ILikeBargenz: yep. I didn't even want or expect compensation, just wanted an explanation. The thing is, I usually like boutique audio shops (I bought an amp) which is why I pay more to support them, rather than buying from o/s.

    • I have purchased from Selby multiple times, and never had any issues. There delivery times range from 2-5 days.

    • I've bought a few hdmi cables from them and a mate bought a tv wall mount bracket. It all turned up lightning quick.

    • +1

their staff instore are so unhelpful and desperate to upsell it's pathetic.

One example: went to buy an HDMI cable for our new TV and of course salesperson wants us to buy an expensive one. He asks "would you really use a $10 cable on a $4000 TV?"

      ???? smoooth m8.

      • +2

To be fair many salespeople are trained to up-sell cables in this way (myself included) as there is a lot of margin in them and nowadays the main purchase is often gutted due to online competition. With majority of retail electrical stores, their whole commission structure resolves around selling expensive addons, usually premium cables and extended warranties. Typically if a salesperson doesn't get sell x cables/warranties, they only get minimum wage, which is why they push it so hard.

While I agree that the practice is unethical (especially now we use digital signals that are not degraded by cable quality and consumer law covers a lot of what an extended warranty does but for free), in my experience it more due to management enforcing it than an issue with the salespeople themselves. As many brick and mortar stores probably wouldn't even turn a profit without these expensive addon sales, the only solution to this I can think of is killing off physical stores and just having everything online.

        • +1

Very good points, I agree it must be managers or owners pressuring salespeople into this.

I still consider Selby my first place to visit for any wall mount or AV room related products (recently we bought ceiling speakers). So does everyone else, judging by the number of visitors I see there. Because of this success*, I just hoped the staff could be allowed to act with more dignity in their upsell attempts.

(* I now get that success is just my perception and they may actually not be making profit)

      • +1

        Sounds like Jaycar

      • +1

Upselling happens everywhere, from fastfood to retail to car dealerships. Employees are told and required to upsell - it's how they increase their margins. It's how large retail stores can offer cost price/below cost price items.

I don't like it as much as anyone else, but if you do your research before hand (which most of us here do) then it doesn't really affect you. Just decline their offer and that's it. Playing the devil's advocate here, but i guess if these suckers that buy overpriced accessories didnt exist, retail stores would probably change their business strategy and wouldn't be so inclined to slash their margins on bigger products.

    • I’ve bought a bunch of crap from Selby when I setup the hidden AV in the house. Responsive to emails and helpful. Good store. Would recommend. Bought some of these HDMI cables back then all good.

  • +1

could be cheaper on Selby Ebay store - if you can use the PICK5 code + Cashrewards
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HDMI-Cable-v2-0-Ultra-HD-4K-1080…

    • I tried PICK5 but doesn't meet the minimum purchase amount.

      • hence why I said "if you can"
needs $30 minimum spend for PICK5 code
        cashrewards however - no minimum

  • I have several of these cables, a few years old now. Only one has broken (the metal hdmi port separated from the wires, likely got knocked/caught in something). Highly recommend them.

  • Does this support HDMI 2.0a i.e. HDR support?

    • +1

      Yes it supports 4K HDR @ 60p and 24p

      • -1

60p is the highest and the best!

  • +1

Also this one, if you like red labels. It states 4k in the title.

Red does go faster. Bought 2x more!

  • I've bought from Selby in the past, good delivery times and product is perfectly acceptable. It's very competitive pricing, but don't be fooled into thinking its cheap crap that doesn't work. For instance my last purchase was a 30m length of HDMI cable. Thick cable, no digital dropouts, hasn't failed once sending Foxtel to the other side of the house via a powered two way splitter (also purchased from Selby). And the cable itself is thick high quality stuff, not thin Ebay crap.

  • Any deal for 8-10m length which is HDMI 2.0a compliant?

  • If you're serious about your HDMI cables, you should be using these! https://www.aussiehifi.com.au/products/audioquest-diamond-hd…

    • +1

It's hard to say "Audioquest" with your tongue firmly in your cheek.

  • Cheers OP, grabbed 2!

  • Nothing wrong with Selby, bought from them heaps before. But, if you run into issues fitting HDMI's thru conduits in walls like I did (builder put 20mm instead of 25mm conduits) then these are the bomb. Have bought from these guys before (bricks & motor store also)…great cables…absolute life saver. I once had to shave down a cable (took a razor to the plastic head) so I could fit it in until I found these.

Deal is marked as out of stock but it's still working, just ordered using ZIPSAVE20 code posted by wikiwiki for 20% off

  • Does anyone know if HDMI 2.0 will do 4K HDR @ 60Hz or do I need to buy the HDMI 2.0a/b cable. Only running a 2m cable behind a wall. Probably could get away with a 1m cable really but then some cables say they only do 4K @ 30Hz. So confusing maybe Gerry at HN could help??

    • Yes it does

      • There is a 1.5m high speed HDMI cable for $4 at office works … Apparently does 4K @ 60Hz. I have a new tv being delivered tomorrow and want to run the cables for soundbar and ps4 pro whist waiting for a deal on both.

  • Updated OP

  • +1

Back in stock again. This time it's orange. Also, Paypal works a charm

  • -1

Terrible deal, simply because these are a round cable and not flat. There are many deals on ebay from china for flat (noodle) hdmi cables of 5m length for the same or so price.

    • +1

I have 3 HDMI and 1 Ethernet cable behind my tv at the moment and if you spread them it doesn't add any bulk.

      • -1

Sometimes you want to run the cables under a rug etc… and a round cable is noticab le.

        • +1

Ah. Never even thought of that! So much choice on eBay if you are willing to wait.

    • +1

Round cable means it may have the correct twists and shields. Flat cables may not shield the data transmission lines properly, so lots more noise pickup from environment. More noise means more data errors which means more transmission retry which means slower.

Maybe OK for short runs, and not sure how it affects HDMI but for Ethernet flat cables are a massive fail.

      • You learnt that from ads didn't you.

        • +1

No, basic science and electrical engineering.

Thanks OP and also to wikiwiki for the 20% code.

Just ordered 2 which will be handy to move the connected devices away from my TV.
