Yep, it's about the 5:2 diet, Intermittent Fasting, limited calories 2 days per week…
It goes with the doco: Michael Mosley - Eat, Fast & Live Longer

EDIT: the book is out of stock ;)
so the book went FAST
I thought it was funny ;)
This is not the place to have this discussion, but an energy (calorie/kj) deficit, also comes with vitamins, minerals, amino acids (protein) deficiency.
As you probably know, the majority of fat people are consuming refined sugar and refined fat products, which is already deficient in the above.
Now the reasons why they are storing fat is multifaceted, from not enough potassium to convert (and store) glucose into glycogen, to gut flora disbiosis and so on.
Simply starving ones self is a sure fire way to ruin your metabolism, even more so if coupled with exercise.. just ask the Biggest Loser contestants

How about people ditch the refined products, including dairy, and eat more fruits and vegetables… much like the longest living populations around the world (Blue Zones).
Ha ha…. You're funny
Let me preface this by saying that as a former fatty, people should do whatever works for them to keep them healthy. If a high-carb low fat diet works for you, great (and vice-versa).
"…also comes with vitamins, minerals, amino acids (protein) deficiency."
It doesn't have to
"…the majority of fat people are consuming…"
A major calorie surplus
"…why they are storing fat is multifaceted…"
Yeah, but the main reason is because they run a massive calorific surplus. If you eat more than you burn, you'll store it
"…starving ones self is a sure fire way to ruin your metabolism…"
I agree, but provided you consume all necessary vitamins and nutrients that your body needs (different for everyone to a degree) and don't run too much of a deficit then it's not that bad in the short term, provided you have a good long-term plan
"…ditch the refined products…"
Couldn't agree more. Not sure about the dairy comment (I'd argue that full fat dairy is fine and reduced fat is bad due to the higher sugar-fat ratio that produces a faster blood sugar spike), and I'd say ditch fruit altogether, good quality meat and fish are fine, and good quality free range eggs are fine. I read the chart and it seems to still be a bit food-pyramidy for me but YMMV.
I'm not having a crack, I just enjoy these discussions
Switch to Almond Milk and drink as much as you want :)
If you think starvation sets in within 24hrs, you've lost the plot.
Is this book about fasting?
I'll save you $2. Don't consume calories for 1 day (24hrs) a week or up to 4 days a week (maximum 48hrs consecutively) = huge caloric deficit = lose weight fast.
