At the heart of this board is a Broadcom BCM2837B0 - it's a 64-bit 1.4Ghz Quad-Core processor that is referred to as the "System on Chip" (SoC for short). Alongside the SoC is RAM and other essential hardware, leaving you with an incredibly cost-effective personal computer that has enough oomph to run a range of operating systems, play high definition video, even retro gaming.

  • Hmm the thing about the PoE support is you can already do this with a simple PoE splitter on any Pi model.. sure it's not quite as tidy though.

So I personally wouldn't upgrade purely for the PoE "support" especially with the HAT requirement.

The 5Ghz wifi is obviously nice, but I'm running my OSMC Pi3 on ethernet anyway…

The support for HW H.265 @ 1080p is awesome.. but is this exclusive to the B+?

    Quote:
"For existing Raspberry Pi users the B+ will be that little bit better for a wide range of tasks: from a media center able to play a wider range of video, due to the B+'s better performance and recent support for hardware-assisted decoding of HDCP-encrypted 1080p H.265 video, to a faster home server thanks to the connectivity upgrades."

  • Not a deal, this is about usual retail price (incl GST). Stock levels seem ok at the moment across retailers too.

Little Bird Electronics actually have it 4c cheaper with free express shipping:

    • +1

ordered one from little bird, will cancel order from element 14 … not waiting 3 weeks for the same product and same price.

    • Also from people clearly enthusiastic and supportive of the unit with a great web site. The short YouTube clips for the Q&A are clear, informative and not drecked out with annoying zany "now" music..
