Don't forget you can use isoproyl alcohol with 5-10ml of citrus oil (I like orange) to replace the liquid inside the clean+charge station. Replacement cleaning cartridges are not cheap.

    • Thanks. That's very handy to know.

How long did one cartridge last?

      • Technically they last as long as your comfortable using them. The liquid is circulated through the shaver, so after a while the charge has all sorts of shavings and skin floating around in it. I've got a unit that uses this system and if your shaving each day I'd say change it out once a month if your going for the home made option and every second month with the store bought.

        • Thanks. I have a much better understanding of it now. Cheers.

          @chewbot:

The alcohol will evaporate, I remove and cap the cartridge after use.

And you can get sachets from eBay that you mix with rubbing alcohol to make the cleaning fluid.

I use the cleaning station about once a week and put the cap back on the cleaning cartridge after each use. I would say the cartridge lasts sometime between 6 and 12 months.
I also thoroughly rinse the razor before cleaning to avoid the cleaning fluid getting dirty quickly.
This is a good razor and that is a terrific price, especially when a replacement cartridge is about $55 and the cleaning fluid about $10. Almost tempted to get one as a spare.

        • Cheers. I'm convinced.

        • Could you please share a link for the replacement cartridge and cleaning fluid. Thanks

  • Interested, but every series 7 comparison site I have checked states that this is only a dry shaver (and not wet and dry)?

    • I read a comment on the US amazon site that if the shaver can be used whilst plugged in then Braun cannot refer to them as "wet" (I guess in case some idiot uses it in the shower whilst it's plugged in). I have no idea how true that is but people have certainly referred to using it in the shower.

      • Hmm ok, so from what I read about is one is that it can be used while plugged in, and therefore it is not a wet and dry shaver (wet don't allow plugging in and using).
Anyone know Amazons dispute process if I buy and turns out it says clearly in manual so not use in shower?

Also, never had a good electric shaver, will this give me a clean shave like a Mach 3 or similar blade will give? Dirty very short stumble won't cut it for my job, particularly because I have only patchy facial hair so it stands out like balls..

        • These will shave almost as close as a blade.

          The trimmer is hopeless though.

        • @Scab:
Cheers, will purchase and give it a go

        • @Scab: foil shavers can get a close shave but take their sweet ass time cutting

          @DaTa:

You're not supposed to use them on arse hair.

        • @Scab: You're not? :O

        • @Scab:
Aww dam that's what I been doing wrong

        • This does not shave as close as a blade, and I don’t believe any electric shaver will. I have had the 790cc for a couple of years now and while I’m very happy with it, I shave with a blade once a week or when I have an important event. These will give you a decent shave and are definitely worth the purchase, if only for the convenience of being able to shave quickly, but don’t expect it to replace a blade all together.

        • @The Almighty Dollar:

This does not shave as close as a blade

Never said it did, I said almost as close.

        • @Scab: was in response to @prrg’s question “will this give me a clean shave like a Mach 3“, not a comment you made.

http://shavercheck.com/braun-series-7-differences/ this indicate that 760cc is just for dry

  • I have the 8595 nearly 20 years old, still runs great. I purcahsed another foil and cutter the other day $45 they last about 6 months id say. I only shave my neck as a have a beard.

I am seriously thinking of buying a philips or panasonic just to see what they are like.

    • Apparently the arc4 or arc5 are better. But the blades are like $$$$$$ as much as a new one.

  • I have been using this same shaver for 3-4 years now and it hasn't miss a beat. I made my own cleaning solution using isopropanol rubbing alcohol 70%.

  • It's a good shaver which I used for over a year or more. But I will recommend the Philips 9000 Series S9711SC instead of this for people with sensitive skin. Even if you don't have sensitive skin, that shaver is miles ahead of this and is extremely fast if your hair is in different directions. Just one important thing about the philips, do not buy the replacement blades, they are of inferior quality. Stick to the ones that come with the shaver and make them last as long as they can.

I used to have the Braun 790cc-4.

  • I have the 790cc4

Very good have had for 5 years

  • I have the 790cc, had it for 8 years. Been a good shaver.
Just bought the 7898 for about $190 delivered.

    • Great man, would you mind sharing the link?

It was an auction listing on ebay, doesn't look like the guy I bought off has any more but a few others are selling them.

      • Hmmm, purchase gone pear shaped. Seller misrepresented.
The shaver he sent is a cheaper model.

  • Confirm, wet and dry turn off when plugged in. The idea is to use the shaver on battery if shaving during a shower.

The non wet-dry shavers can shave when plugged in. They aren't supposed to be as waterproof and not intended for in shower use. In my experience the non wet-dry shaver is still very capable of doing a wet shave and rinsing in water.

I second the 790cc is a decent shaver. Works best when used regularly and not on longer hair. Replacing the blades works magic once they get old and blunt.

  • Out of stock.

  • I recalled paying a lot more when it came out.
    Great price.
