Before those naysayers come here. You can set a favourite mode so it'll stay on the same speed all night long instead of switching back down to auto/sleep after 4 hours.

  • +1

Replacement filter is expensive otherwise I would be interested

    • +1

~$40-$50 a year which is cheaper than others on the market. You can often get 3rd party filters cheaper on Joybuy here and here.

      • +2

Unsure if the third party one is trustworthy. Who knows what materials they used to make those filters. I would be wary as its what you breath in…. Skeptical on health related products in China especially after market stuff

    • Cheaper then other brands still

  • -2

Meh, 167 still too much $$$

    • Do you have a cheaper price somewhere?

    • +3

It's a lot for a box with a fan and a filter in it. And er … smarts.

      • wifi control, scheduling etc

  • +2

I would love to hear from someone who already has one on their thoughts if this is a good buy or not.

    • +2

We have one in our bedroom, and made a huge difference

      • +1

Could you elaborate? I'm genuinely curious as to what these things actually do in Australia at least.

Edit don't worry, you've already answered elsewhere:)

        • +1

The missus has allergies, and it has helped her sleep so much better

    • I have one and just checked the filter as the mi home app notified that my filter expired. I was amazed by the amount of thick layers of dust that got caught by the filter. Whether it makes a difference to my health or not I cannot confirm but I'd rather prefer those thick amount of dust to end up in the filter than my lungs = )

    • +13

I have 2 of these. My only scientific testing of it has been to do a big fart beside it and get my nephew to smell the air exhaust. My fart didn't smell, so it's obviously working.

      • +4

        Tres scientifique!

      • +1

Purified your fart! That's a given!

      • +1

I don't know why, but your comment reminded me of this

  • So, what are these actually good for? I don't reply get sick and I don't mind breathing in "current air toxins"

Any other blaring benefits I'm missing?

    • +4

They don't remove 'toxins' from the air. They mechanically remove particles of dust and pollen from the air and trap it inside a filter.

People with respiratory diseases or asthma may find them useful.

    • +1

If yuo have allergies these would help alot, if not then just makes the air cleaner you can tell after a few hours of it running a bedroom the clean air smell

    • -5

They don't actually work, even for people with allergies, because the amount of dust/pollen/allergens they collect is from such a tiny amount of the air space in the home, you might as well be waving a wet towel in the air to collect dust.

You'll get a much better result from regular dusting, vacuuming, and opening the windows as often as you can. You are better off changing the whole house's air two to three times per hour rather than filtering a fraction of the house's air.

But they have a very strong placebo effect. People swear by them.

      • I don’t have one but surely a filter in a bedroom with a closed door would help?

        • +3

Sadly no. But don't take my word for it - here's what UL found:

"Studies have looked and often cannot even show that particulate matter is reduced, much less a health benefit, in the real world rather than in a lab setting,” says Elliot Horner, PhD, lead scientist for UL Environment, a division of UL. “The issue is that in the real world, there is often poor mixing of air. This means that much particulate matter (PM) in a room — in pockets of stagnant air — never gets pulled into the air cleaner. Also, even if the cleaner pulls in all PM in the air right now, if the sources of PM are not addressed, then PM levels very quickly will be right back up to where they were. There is no silver bullet,” says Horner. He advises people to reduce the sources of any pollutants by keeping the home clean and well ventilated.

As the lead scientist says, what does work is to keep your house clean and open the windows.

        • @nhand42: Makes sense but you could run an air circulating fan like a Vornado at the same time.

        • @nhand42: fair enough. Use the ceiling fan when you turn on the air filtering device.

        • @nhand42: Opening windows next to road will get alot more dust from road traffic, if you live in farm land or coastal might be totally different.

      • +1

        Hmm wet towel you say?
Do you happen to know a towel that I can connect to the internet and is also waterproof?

        • +5

Yes, I think Xiaomi make one.

      • worked for my missus so not sure what your in about

        • +1

Placebo. It "works" because she thinks it should work. If she ever doubted it worked, it would "stop" working.

If your wife believed crystals and magnets worked, they probably would "work" too.

If your missus thinks it works, best keep it around. Better to be happy than correct when it comes to the wife.

        • +2

@nhand42: nope as i didnt tell her i put it in there so your theory is incorrect. guess you havebt tried ibe and only basing this on what you have read?

i can even tell a difference in the air smell like cleaner

        • the Mrs is always right

  • +1

Wife had breathing issues for ages, especially throughout the night having to use asmol pump.

Coincidence or not, since we have this on at night in the bedroom she hasn't had to use it at all. So I would imagine it's doing something.

Added bonus once you have added it to the mi home app, if you forget to turn it off in the morning you can still control it from the app even when not home.

We usually just have it going on about 30mins before going to bed. I originally purchased 2,one for lounge and 1 for bedroom but I have only set up the bedroom one which is where the breathing issues were.

    • +1

What are you doing with the 2nd one

      • atm it's just sitting in the spare room, still sealed in the box it came in. I purchased as part of this deal
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/355853 for $160

I know this isn't the classifieds but Happy to sell it for what i paid to anyone located in Melbourne Eastern Suburbs i guess, as it doesn't look like I'm going to end up using it at this stage.

        • I'll take it! Will PM you!

    • You can use schedules via the mi home app or also turn on and off via home assistant when it shows air quality reduces or gets better

    • -1

So I would imagine it's doing something.

I don't know what it is in your wife's case but the placebo effect is real, no imagination required. It's as though it's a non-placebo effect in every way.

      • So you're saying whether it was the air filter doing what it says, or the placebo effect in action, the result was the same - his wife is breathing better because of this purchase? :)

  • +1

My wife keeps smoking inside. Would this help clear the air?

    • +17

maybe you need a new wife might be cheaper then replacing the filters constantly

    • -2

      Try smacking the bitch.

      • So, The Prodigy instead of The Bikies?

      • I'm gonna smack all yo' bitches!

    • My wife keeps smoking inside. Would this help clear the air?

      No, but divorce would.

  • It would be nice if they had a smaller version for bedroom, as this is a little overkill for bedrooms

    • +1

i initially thought the same.. but it just sits on the bedside table now. designed well enough to blend into the bedroom

  • +2

will these still purify the air in your house even if the air is not very smart?

    • +1

If you're asking for yourself, then no ;-)

  • Does it come with an Australian plug?

    • CN whic is an upside down AU plug

  • If this helps to remove dust in the air, does that mean i can do less dusting on my furniture?

    • technically it would decrease the amount of dust that lands

  • I got one. Makes my fart smells lovely!

  • +1

any deals for the 2s with the improved particle sensor?

    • -1

its a display on unit but yiu can see it via the app anyway

      • Not the same sensor though - the 2S has an improved optical sensor.

  • 2 have an infrared particle sensor and 2s have a laser particle sensor.. don't really look at the display on the unit so the OLED isn't important to me

  • Out of stock can't order any more

  • Interesting, we have a Conway Air Purifier which we purchased as one of our ferrets had severe respiratory issues. She was on several medications but still would have several asthma attacks a day. After we got this ( on our vets recommendation who also suggested running a normal fan in the room on low) her attacks went from 4-5 to 1 or zero each day. No placebo effect here.

  • rip out of stock

  • Just purchased the same in Kogan for $165

  • Back in stock

    • Thanks for this. But looks like they have jacked up the price to $249 (was $209) before the 20% ebay discount. :(

      • Looks like they rolled it back to $209. Get in before they decide to price jack again.

  • Ok mine arrived today but for some reason, it’s refusing to pair with my mi home all. Keeps failing when trying to set the wifi connection details via the app. Already tried various fixes suggested online (eg. Different regions, using phone as hotspot, etc) but nothing works :(

Note that I’ve already got other devices such as the Xiaomi Gateway and multiple IP cameras all set up with no issues, but this one has me stumped so far….

Any advice welcomed, before I contact the seller.

    • Don't worry about above, after some hours of stuffing around, it magically worked when I went back to my original China region….
