    Popular because it's cheap , for a leatherman ,
but no lifetime warranty on the low-end models , so must have reciept to prove age for repair.
    PITA

    • +1

which one is high-end model that have lifetime warranty?

        Do you're own research

    • +1

All Leatherman Knives and Tools comes with a 25 years warranty. I've personally sent some in for repair and proof of purchase isn't required.

Most Leatherman has date of manufactured printed on them (usually hidden within the tool).

      • So no lifetime warranty anymore then?

        • +1

To my knowledge, Leatherman never offered Lifetime Warranty. However, I believe that the 25 Years isn't heavily enforced.

        • +1

Tim Leatherman has stated, if you managed to keep your tool for 25 years and then break it, you deserve a new tool, also Leatherman wanted to distinguish themselves from other manufactures that were offering "Life Time Warranties", they will repair/replace the tool no matter what, as the warranty is on the tool an not on its owner.
I have a massive collection of leathermans and never had problems getting them repaired or replaced.

        • Do your own research

        • @Geryatric: I was in the middle of sharpening my hss drill bits , not going out of my way to be a smart arse.
I just understood (as told by leatherman sales guy) that the cheaper, as in the wave ect that retail around $125 and sell sub $100 had a different warranty to the original leatherman that retails nearer $200
Just pointing out that you get what you pay for.
I would wait for a sale that includes the top-end stuff that includes the better pliers ect.
          Just my 2¢

        • Their is no difference in the warranty between the cheap tools and the more expensive ones, so basically a Wave is a Wave, is a Wave.
Also the plier head on the Wave is the same as in the Charge Ti. If you have any doubts head over to multitool.org, they will put all your warranty doubts to rest.

  • Got one from Aldi for about $8 a few years back… It's great, I use it often.

    • Was it sheathed?

    • +3

You should've posted it as a deal
      ..

      • +1

        i think I saw it here…

        • lol.

  • What makes this a "bargain"?

    • +6

The RRP on these are $194.95 but can be purchased from Knives Online eBay store for around $100 during 20% off sale. So under $100 would be considered a "bargain".

      • Why are they so expensive?

        • +7

The main reason why Leatherman are so expensive is due to:

          • The Quality of Leatherman Tools/Knives
          • 25 Years Warranty
          • Made in USA
        • @RichardL: Ahhh ok what would be the difference between one of these and a $30 knife?

        • +2

@Lockster: These aren't shit like a cheapo multitool. Mine has been powering along for years now. I did break the tiny screwdriver attachment on it though so they're not /that/ great.

I find my cheapo multitools to have blunt or weak knives, the hinge alignment is screwy so it doesn't close straight or easily, the tool hinges don't have any stiffness at all so the tools flap about, and the wirecutters don't strip or cut well.

        • +1

@RichardL: Seconded RichardL's comments. Leatherman offers fantastic multitools and it would be foolish to compare with the cheapos.

Got a wave three years ago and used it every working day out of the work year. Bloody fantastic tool.

    • Bought one ages ago and IMHO the best to use tool you can get from Leatherman. Nice edges, some tools make it hard to use/squeeze

  • +1

Please keep in mind that this is considered a concealed weapon

    • What if you were a tradesman and using this with the purpose of a work tool?

      • +1

Just like a chef is allowed to carry their knives around to their work place from home. Should be easy to get someone to vouch for you if you indeed need this for your trade/profession.

      • I am no lawyer but i believe you are not allowed to carry it on your body but you are allowed to have it in a bag or so

        • I believe here in Queensland you're permitted to carry a Swiss army knife or multitool.

  • Lost my wave a few months ago so seeing this I jumped on this like a fat kid on a lamington, thanks OP!
