I think the 9/11 terrorists passport soaked in jet fuel that they found in the rubble was easier to read than these photos 😜

    • I'm wondering why is anything but a link to Aldi website required.

      • +12

It's not yet published to the website

    • +6

Either the photos have been updated or you're crazy. Absolutely no issue reading every word.

    • 9/11 was an inside job

  • +2

Was really hoping their next MTB would superseed the $349 29er I’m still loving.

    • +3

Haha for the longest time, I was trying to work out what "superseed" meant… Was thinking along the lines of torrent seeding, or maybe fuelling demand for the other bike…

      I believe you meant "supersede"?

    • Next proper mountain bike will probably be a very similar Polygon rebrand in ~September… I don't think they'll run another "premium" MTB deal so soon after the last one.

I also doubt they will significantly upgrade on the last model - going to higher level hard tail bikes you spend more for better quality components, but I don't think they would be able to sell that easily to uninformed purchasers. It would look like a very similar bike with similar numbers of gears, still with disk brakes but it might cost $700+. They could try selling a cheaper version of this but I don't think they would try to sell such an expensive bike in store. That said, I'm happy to be proven wrong.

    • So you recommend your bike? How long have you had it?

    • How come they have the other dates but not next Wed? I wanted to check out the bike.

      • They probably haven't published yet - check in the next 24 hr

      • The paper catalog is available days before the email & online catalog. For 17 March, the full item list will be published online around 11 March.

        • Thanks. Are these bikes any good? They're certainly cheap.

  • +1

What can one do with a 160W solar panel?

    • +4

Charge/Maintain a 12v battery whilst camping without mains power

    • +7

Assuming 8 hours of sunlight, and averaging about 50% efficiency, that's 640wh of power that you could generate. That's more than enough to run a couple of fluorescent or LED lights through the dark hours of the night, charge a a few phones, etc. If you need more power than that then you might not be camping.

      • More like glamping, in which case a generator is required to run the 50" flatscreen and 5.1 surround

      • Not quite, youd lose about two-thirds in storage. Most deep cycle batteries would struggle to exceed 30% efficiency.

    • +3

I use my 100W panels to run car fridge, LED lights and USB sockets whilst camping, with a 100AH deep cycle battery.

      Works an absolute treat!

      • +1

        That's good to know.

I remember 40 years ago, all we had was a car battery and 12V bulb, with alligator clips as the on/off switch!

        • +2

          Bleedin luxury…
I remember when all we had was candles and a pie tin…

      • +1

What is the total cost for the setup? So on top of $169 solar panel, it seems if you have to purchase deep cycle battery, and maybe a battery case and an inverter?

        • +1

          yep.

I bought a deep cycle battery for about $100 (gumtree), and battery box from bunnings for $70. I added usb chargers and a couple of other bits and pieces, but that is all optional to how you want you box to work. The USB was used by everyone we went camping with, as we were in a place with reception.

I use anderson plugs for all my connections, so i have bought thos off the net, i also want to add some isoaltors to isolate the charging or consumption side.

it will be a work in progress for a while.

    • Bugger all without sunlight.
But given a good clear cool sunny day, with out shade, you can harvest enough power to recharge 100Ah-130Ah Deep Cycle battery
6 hours of productive sunlight if you move the panel during the day
Can run a 40Ltr DC fridge, some LED lights, Charge your phone etc
Or you could use it to tender a Battery in your Caravan, Camper, Motorhome, Stored Car, Electric Gate Opener or as a Remote Power for a shed on a farm.

  • +1

Are these tents any good? Been thinking of trying out camping with the kids.

    • Good by what measure? What resistant? Keep the family safe from drop bears?

      • +1

Quality wise. Protection from the elements. I don't want the thing to fall apart after one use

        • +5

yep, have the 6P one. Works fine and easy to set up. It says 6, I think the 6P can handle 4P.

Good enough for us occasional campers.

        • @aurotaro: you found any holes in it yet or years in stitching? Any little annoying things like zip always getting stuck?

        • +4

@AustriaBargain: nope nothing. have used it for 5-6 camping trips and have had no issues with it. A bit difficult putting the Front Awning up but once you get used to it, it will be fine. Have had no leaks nothing despite a couple of days in the wet.

        • @aurotaro: Any idea how it compares to the equivalent Coleman one? See here for details: https://www.snowys.com.au/instant-up-6p-tent-new?gclid=CjwKC…

        • +1

@Rodo: sorry mate, wouldn't know. All I'll say is it fits 4 people very comfortably and we've had no issues in the 4-5 times we've taken it for camping.

Can't they make the bloody bag just 10mm more longer instead of being a tight fit!!!! Every bloody company does this. Same for sun shelters when packing them in.

        • @aurotaro: Thanks. Does your tent have a solid front door or mesh? I read elsewhere that with the Aldi ones you would need to collapse the awning to close it off.

      • It looks just like the Coleman instant up tents. If it is the same they are pretty good, but obviously not as strong as a proper dome tent would be. Where Instant up tents deteriorate first is the struts, unless people get careless and hole the fabric.
        .

        • Yeah I have an instant up tent, and this looks the same. I LOVE our one, and presume the quality of the frame wouldn't be much different. It would be in the fly and fabric that you would maybe find a difference (well at least with the Coleman logo on the side haha)

    • +3

Good enough to withstand emu war

  • +1

Omg the onesies are back on sale! Hahahha. So hard to find stock last time.

  • Also keen to hear feedback from someone that has a tent

    • +1

I have the 6P tent. It realistically fits 4P. Can stand up in tent no issues. Does the job for the occasional camper.

  • Ooh $6 insulated drink bottles.

    • +3

      Not a fan of Voss?

    • +1

Spotted that. Seems like a good deal, usually around $20 in shops. They are brilliant up here in Queensland with all the humidity since you can put cold water in and the humidity won't condense on the sides into a puddle or making your backpack/bag soggy.

      • Anyone had experience with the Drink Bottles? How long do they stay hot/cold for? I was looking at buying some other more expensive ones.

        • +1

I use the cold ones all the time (different brand but it's look almost identical). Fridge water stays cold pretty much all day, it's not ice cold but it's still good enough. Don't use them for hot water.

  • I bought the Coleman 6P Gold a few months ago and haven't used it yet but just watch out for the size …

I can't even fit it in my car.

    • +7

What do you drive, a Mini?
Did you have to fight any pensioners to get a tent?

      • I mean it does fit if I put the seats down, but it's not as practical.

A Megane RS is what I currently drive, but it won't fit in any of the 3 sedans I've got access to either.

        • I thought all Meganes were RS.

        • +1

          @Gershom:

Nah, only the ones made by RS are RS. The normal ones are non-turbo and slow.

    • +6

So it is still at the shop then?

      • +1

        Got it delivered.

    • How did you get it home?

    • should of got the slow megane sedan.

but seriously is it too long to fit in a boot? id expect as such, maybe a commodore boot if your lucky.

        • you're
        • +1

          also

          should have

  • Laser scope. Night vision goggles. So camping in a sniper's nest?

    • +1

Yes, along with the onezee outfit for camouflage, while grilling some steak in the gazebo

      • +9

Do not understand sleeping bag onezee's. How am I supposed to drape one leg & half my arse out for temperature regulation?

        • Draping one leg, & half my arse, never helps me regulate temperature. GF too hot.

        • +3

@amaroo: She says the same thing about me

  • +2

The 4P and 6P looks like a carbon copy of the Coleman instant tents (also in 4P and 6P) - do you think it's a rebadged tent, although the colour is slightly different. the gazebo looks really good too

    • And the Coleman instant ups are pretty good.

      • I've known Aldi to rebadge things, but in this case with the different colour material - is it the same as Coleman's? Has anyone seen them side by side?

  • Any feedback on the bike or should i washout for the 29er to come around again

    • +6

I would washout for the 29er, they are unbranded Polygon mountain bikes.

      • Washout? Didn't want to say watch?

        • +4

Nah, he watched out of grammar school.

      • Where are these bikes?

  • That new portable fridge looks interesting. Collapsible handles, USB port. The previous aldi fridge was pretty good.

    • I'd like to know how this 'new' fridge is? Do you know how long they have been selling it for? The older version seemed to get a pretty good wrap from most reports. I can't find anything about the 41l version

  • +2

FYI the same lantern/torches set (at least they look the same) are half the price at Kmart http://www.kmart.com.au/product/led-lantern-with-2-torches/1…

    • Note: I may have jumped to conclusions. The Kmart one requires batteries, while the ALDI one contains a 1800mah rechargeable battery. This explains the price difference.

      • AAA batteries are better for longer trips

  • Oh bl00dy hell, I want Aldi in Tassie.
    Someone make it so!

    • +5

If you got more people then they might open one, but then, that might ruin the rest of Tassie.

      • +3

If you got more people then they might open one

Aldi forget that each person has two mouths to feed.

  • +2

    Are their sleeping bags good?

  • I was under the impression that the Aldi Special Buys are almost never worth bothering with because they have such limited stock, unless you're at the store when they open, you've got no chance.

Am I right or not really?

    • Not really. You have to be at the store well before it opens.

    • +1

Depends where you live, and how much stock that store gets. I've been lucky enough to live near relatively quiet stores, and as long as I rock up within a few hours of the store opening, I can usually get my hands on whatever I'm after (though certain specials will attract bigger crowds than others).

      • +1

And if it's the first time they've carried it or the fad is over. e.g. 3D printers flew out in minutes at my local last year. a couple of weeks later & they still have stock this year

        • I went to Aldi last weekend for the first time in over a year and saw about 5 3D printers (and about 3 outdoor settings, which I heard via Ozbargain was quite popular).

I live in a rural Victorian city, so that probably explains the decent stock levels.

Any reviews or comments about the 3D printer? I might be interested in buying one.

Edit - found this deal on the printer, will check the price at my local tomorrow night: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363961

    2 burner collapsible BBQ $89.99

This replaces the failed previous offering "2 burner inflatable BBQ"

  • +1

Tents not on sale until Saturday 17th and I go to Jervis Bay on the 16th… Sigh

    • +1

A true professional would sleep in the car on the first night, then go look for an Aldi on Saturday.

    • +3

There's an ALDI about 20mins drive as approaching Jervis Bay - quite new and nice.

Definitely worth buying the day you arrive!

      • +1

Ah yes there is one in Vincentia! Will pick up a tent from Decathlon and if I get lucky and they are selling them Friday night on my way down, lucky me! Cheers for the heads up!

        • one in ulladulla as well, if Vincentia is sold out and you really want it

  • +4

I've found in the past at my local Aldi that if you go late enough in the evening on Friday, the Saturday specials are sometimes out on the floor and they will sell them to you.

  • that night vision binoculars look cool. $149 though.. hmm.. how much are these normally

    • +1

Can you really put a price on watching your neighbours?

      • Depends on act of neigbours..

  • Those tarp poles for $9.99 look kind of useful. Might get some for my golf practice…

    • Their poles a very good actually.

  • I really need a wildlife camera, but don't want to pay ridiculous amounts for a name brand one.
The generic ones are reasonably priced and some of them are on bar with name brand ones, but its next to impossible to tell which ones are good and which are duds before hands-on experience.

Any ides on the Aldi wildlife / trail cameras?
(picture quality in dark and battery life are most important to me)
