Skyscanner Review: Royal Brunei Airlines is the flag carrier for the country of Brunei. Founded in the 1970s, and owned entirely by the government, this airline has grown to incorporate more aircraft into its fleet, and more routes to its charter in order to keep up with the growing tourism to Brunei’s shores, and to facilitate guests wanting to fly onward to explore other parts of Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the UK. This is a small, but prestigious airline to fly with, and you will not be disappointed with what Royal Brunei has to offer.

    Great price!!! Thanks for sharing

    • Thanks Bellpop :)

  • Wow amazing pricing.

Any for bkk in Jan 2019?

    • At the moment what you see is what we have been able to find. Keep watching the site and perhaps signup for email alerts to see what we find in future.

  • Any from Sydney?

    • Unfortunately Royal Brunei only fly's to Melbourne in Australia at the moment, hopefully they will one day :)

    • Any to Tokyo 😉

  • No alcohol is sold on the aircraft however passengers are welcome to BYO.
So more than 100ml liquid is allowed on board ..

    • +1

You can take a litre of water on board a plane as long as you buy it through security check.

Advice would be to buy something duty free.

    • On the two flights out of Sydney I've been on there was no checks once through security.

So you could buy anything from the duty free and take it on with you…

Coming back is another story, seems it's an Australian requirement that your bags are searched again at the boarding gate got anything over 100ml. Happened at both Kuala Lumpa and Bangkok. At Bangkok they actually had Aust Govt signs out at the check point.

  • Just found this thread regarding BYO alcohol on Royal Brunei

When I fly to BKK I usually buy a hip flask of Courvoisier and start the party in the departure lounge. Is good to know that Royal Brunei allows you to do this. Have flown with them before however the only issue is with the stopover at Brunei International Airport. Excruciating boring airport.

      • +1

You can always top-up the booze at Departure lounge and continue the party on-board the plane. :)

      • Wow , I flew with Brunei back in 2005 , flying BRISBANE to singapore for $500 return , and had the same experience , even stayed overnight to look at Brunei City and it was a night I will Never forget for how boring and dull the experience was . Also , there wasn’t any taxi there ? Why ? Any Uber now ? I won’t do it again , not worth the money for having to transit there , unless you are tru blue cheapskate.

        • +1

I was in transit there for 8 hours and didn't even bother taking a city tour.

I remember taking Royal Brunei from Auckland to BKK return for around NZD$900 in 2009 which was a bargain as I usually paid around 1600. Can't believe how cheap this flight is. AS Brunei is an oil producing country I wonder how heavily the subsidise their airliine

        • That’s amazing transit hours !! I still cant believe that with so much cheap competitions, Brunei are still forcing passenger to transit there for hours with gimmick of dirt cheap fares just to fill up the plane on return legs ?

        • @tanastra:

I need the transit to recover from my hangover. Hopefully they're shortened it but I don't think they have direct MEL-BKK flights.

  • How about from Sydney??

    • +1

They stopped flying to/from Sydney years ago. Must be the excessive airport charges.

  • -1

Flight Scout seems to offer only return flights. When I go overseas I almost never return from the same airport I fly into. So these deals are useless to me.

    • Thanks for the feedback. One way flights are something we are looking to add in the future.

    • Have a look on the RBA website, they're offering one way for about $100 less than the ret

  • +3

16 hours MEL to Denpaser. (direct is 5 hours)

I would guess thats ok if you really want to save $70 each leg.

Thats 11 hours sitting on your butt on a plane, or in a transit lounge.

No neg because for some thats ok, but not for me, I am just waiting for the day when flying out of Oz is much faster…

  • Last time I booked to visit Thailand they had a coup d'état and things got messy for a bit - is the military (NCPO) still in charge?

    • Yes but they've eased up on insisting the go go bars close early so it's all good.

  • +1

Not sure 'prestigious' would be the adjective I'd use…

  • Just check you are on a one stop flight to and from BKK and you don't need to overnight in Brunei

Almost direct flight on Wednesday and Saturday to BKK. 55 min stopover. Best flights from Bkk to Mel Monday and Tuesday.

These were times in Nov 2017. May have changed this year. May be Saturday?
