    • Both spelling styles are standard and acceptable in Australia.
The Age style guide goes with colour/ Herald Sun uses color.
Also note it's the Labor party (not Labour) and always was.
      Both are correct

Both spelling styles are standard and acceptable in Australia.

Really? Ask any English teacher in Australia how they teach it…

        • +1

Check any Australian dictionary JV - both are standard and acceptable spellings

          @King Tightarse:

both are standard and acceptable spellings

          nope, depends where you are.

"'Color' is the spelling used in the United States. 'Colour' is used in other English-speaking countries."

        • @jv:
Hmmm well you had better send Rupert a memo because the 'or' spelling is used as standard spelling as per style guide of the Herald Sun and other Newscorp papers. That means if you submit a piece of writing, the sub-editors will correct it to the 'or' spelling if you use the 'our'. Pick up any edition and see for yourself.
Better call Shorten too as it's Labor party, not the Labour party.
That source I think is too generalistic. There is no hard dichotomy between the US and all other English speaking countries. Australia uses both spellings as standard and the Macquarie recognises both spellings as correct

No need to. They deliberately use the American spelling.

        • @jv:
Born and bred in Melbourne, son of Herald founder Sir Keith.

        • @jv:
I am sure it was to separate themselves from the British Labour party, as well but be certain JV, that if the 'or' spelling in Labor was not seen as 'Australian' enough or incorrect in any way, they would change it overnight.

        • @King Tightarse:

          Born and bred in Melbourne

          But now a US citizen

        • @jv:
Yes, well that is correct but the Herald and the old Sun have had that style guide since forever

        • @King Tightarse:

Well what do you know! there's me saying that they have had that style guide forever and they go and change it. That'll teach me for not checking, lol. Ok they always did have that style guide. I know because I worked there for years. They have changed it at some point! Good pickup JV.

        • @jv: He'd be Nigerian if it was worth his while.

Also note it's the Labor party (not Labour) and always was.

Yes, it was a deliberate choice to distinguish the party from labour in general.

        • and, I think, the British Labour party

        • to distinguish the party from labour in general.

It was either remove the 'u' or call themselves the 'lazy' party…

          The vote was 51-49….

        • @jv: So 49 were not too lazy to vote. :)

Are these those coloring books that they have in those safe spaces I've heard about?

Those safe spaces with crayons, puppies, ball pits and grown adults who grew up receiving participation trophies and can't cope in the 'real world'?

    • I tend to be left of centre but I do wonder why these are a "thing". Each to his own, though.
