Thorfire rep came through with the goods! Cheapest I could find anywhere in the world. Ships from Aus so you should get it quickly even with free shipping.
One of the most anticipated lights of the last year or 2, designed by the BLF community, and manufactured by Thorfire.
Review here
Max output of about 5000 lumens when stock, can be bumped up with some simple mods. Minimum output of under 1 lumen. Ramping UI is great. As bright as it looks on paper. Needs some good quality batteries (I use Samsung 30Q's). Maybe a battery rep on here can do a deal?
Sorry for brief formatting but I'm in mobile and about to jump on a plane. Will try and tidy it up later this morning

  • But is it bright?

    • +12

It depends if you switch it on or not.

  • As bright as it looks on paper.

    How so?

I'll wait for the more powerful CFMEU torch

    • +2

Just brace yourself when turning it on. I hear that it's got shocking kickbacks.

  • Looks epic. Want. How much are the batteries going to cost?

    • Maybe hit up these guys and ask for a deal?

  • +2

    I definitely don't need this….right??!

Edit: It's IPX-8 too! I've got a feeling my wife will be unhappy with me tonight..

"oh this thing? I've had it for years, don't you remember?"
"it was on sale, how could I afford 'not' to get one"
"well you bought those shoes you don't really need"
      "sorry"
"i need it for work cough, it's tax deductable"
"i bought you an early birthday present, something we can both use"

      • +5

You -"I bought it so we have something powerful to use to search for our child if they get lost in the bush."

Partner- " What do mean "what child?"

You -"I see a future for us <insert partners name>."

Either they will love this train of thought and appreciate your thoughtfulness and love; or they hate torches and don't see a future with you - so buying a this torch is an inexpensive way of gauging the relationship and your partners position.

      • "i need it for work cough, it's tax deductable"

Be careful with that "other" category this year. They're cracking down!

    • Just do it. Such an awesome light

'One of the most anticipated lights of the last year or 2'……..are there people out there sitting around in a cold sweat of anticipation for the release date of a new torch?

    • +1

      Yep 😚

    • +1

      Sadly yes.

    • +2

Sadly, some did not survive the grueling wait…

    • I had 4x batteries lying around anticipating a discounted Heikelight that never come, but this came along for only a third of the price.

      So yes :)

  • Comes up $68.64 for me. $78.20 less $9.99 delivery, $19.55 promotional code.

Aha default is Expedited Delivery. Just change it to Free delivery .

  • Got one, thanks op

  • This thing looks seriously amazing. But, I have to ask, is there a cheapy 4x cree that puts out similar brightness, but doesn't have as good UX, build quality, memory, etc?

The thing is, I really want something bright but I'll only use it from time to time so don't need full premium…

    • I think this might be it. Check the price of the others in the linked review? The 15000lm was ~$108

    • Depends what you mean by similar brightness. Most of the cheaper torches either won't have four cree emitters or won't have the same emitter (i.e. will produce less brightness).

And honestly for like a spend of ~$25 AUD or less, I don't think you'll get many torches that produce real (not Chinese) 1000+ lumens.

    • Thanks for the responses guys, good to know this is the champ.

  • Shame about the button top requirement. I have 4x non button top 30Q :(

    • You could always get some small magnets or solder blob them. I ran a magnet in an older Nitecore torch for a while with no detriment

Dam bought this weeks ago for a few more dollars.

I'm waiting for some the brass screws from ebay now, apparently good for another 300 or so lumens :)
You want 4 M2.5 X 5mm brass screws, it seems to be the simplest mod.
The info was from here http://budgetlightforum.com/node/57613

  • sigh… pulled the trigger..

    now to research mods…

  • thanks OP, bought.

  • Don't have a real bright torch. Bought one, thanks. Woo hoo.

But I've currently got only got two 30Qs and a single bay Li-ion charger. Have to find a deal on a LiitoKala Lii-500 and four more 30Qs now. Hmmm, not sure buying this torch cheaper has actually saved me any money…

    • Care to share the link?

      • If I find one…

        • Oops I misread your post!

        • deal on 30Qs available now: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/365162

        • @simulacrum: Yeah, saw that. Unfortunately I had already bought some from Banggood. Oh well.

Decided to go with a Miboxer C4-12 charger, not cheap, but faster charge rate than the Lii-500 and it reviews well, so see how it goes. And at least it comes with an Aussie plug.

Got the light during the week too. Nice little…ish, heavy sucker. Only tried it out with one 30Q so far, impressively bright with just the one, looking forward to powering it properly. My Astrolux S2 has a tighter hotspot I reckon, but the Q8 is still probably brighter than it.

  • Ordered. There is a special on batteries as well on OB.

Just got mine - jeez, chunky custard. This is a big, fat mutha. seems very bright (haven't tried it at night yet). Could use a hole for a lanyard, but maybe you could get something that screws into the tripod mount hole. Seems good quality. Only thing is reading the manual! Tiniest writing. All they needed was the website link.

    • Yep. With 4 cells in it is not a lightweight by any means. The UI is just about the best I've ever used though, and the ramping is so seamless.
