Just a tip: The price in title should be the price after applying the Coupon

The tags are not formatted as 'hashtags', simply type in the full product name of the item and choose from the dropdown list that appears. For e.g Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus

    as opposed to broken-up tags like #samsung #mobile #S8

    • -3

Even at 5% off down from $119 it would match no where near the price that it was going for last month from Wireless 1 on eBay. Around that $80 mark.

      • And that's why correct tagging is so important, the related product widget lets you quickly determine whether the thing you're about to post or buy is a good deal or not.

generally speaking, anyway. It's not something you should rely on 100 percent of the time.

  • -4

Price is so and so i suppose. But this same router could have been bought last month from Wireless 1 for $80.50 delivered. So it's not the cheapest that it's recently been.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/355447

    • It looks like the price is actually $76, is this still a neg for you?

  • +1

Has been around the $80 mark in many previous OzB posts

    • Yes from Wireless 1.

      • -2

Word of warning to all, I think Wireless 1 is no longer… liquidators SV Partners have been assigned to them so be careful if buying any items from them at the moment (might be worth reaching out to them to see if good sare going to be sent out)… Their Facebook page has been closed but I see their main website is still online…

        • +4

That's Warehouse1, not Wireless1. Two very different companies.

          https://insolvencynotices.asic.gov.au/browsesearch-notices/n…

          Wireless1 is doing much better.

        • @scrimshaw:

Apologies, 100% correct and it's only a Monday.. wow, this might be a shocking week ahead for me by the looks of it… hahah

        • Yes it's Warehouse 1 that's in liquidation, not Wireless 1. I previously made the same mistake.

        • I just bought a to link electrical lan system, from them. arrived no probs

  • -2

more than 40% higher than a week ago, and get no neg?

  • Not commenting on the price but would this be better (or worst) than Asus Rt-ac68u (or TM-1900 equivalent)? Am thinking of getting a second router purely for VPN. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • +2

Asus is AC1900, and this is AC1200. I prefer Asus over Linksys. Also the aimesh is a nice new feature with Asus these days.

LMFAO at the price changes so far…Can't trick this group

    • Sorry Mate, first price was mistake.

  • I have a TP-Link D7, would this one be any better?

    • +1

In theory it's a drop in the speed of your wifi from 1750mbps to 1250mbps.
Basically, these are really quite nice routers with a good range behind them but definitely aren't a upgrade from the TP-Link D7.

  • +6

Credit to the Rep for the price change - upvoting accordingly

  • Setting up NBN in a new rental. Pretty small flat.

    Basically gaming and Netflix streaming.

Would this suit? Usually have between 4 and 6 devices connected

    • Yes, more than enough. If you use 2.4Ghz channel and get bad performance, don’t blame the router, use 5Ghz instead!

    • What sort of NBN do you have?

This isn't a modem, only a router. So unless you have FTTP/HFC/FTTC you'll need a VDSL2 modem as well if you're on FTTN/FTTB

      • FTTC requires a VDSL2 modem too

        • +1

@Porthos: ahh fe they seem to now provide the VDSL2 modem as the "connection device"

        • +1

@Dezeption: Yeah, they made the change a few months ago. It's annoying they can supply it all for FTTP/FTTC and HFC but for FTTN/B customers we have to spend more to get a VSDL2 modem instead of just having a set one supplied by NBN.

Seems a bit ridiculous they get not only the better connection but more for their money as well. But saves them having to enter everyone's home to install the NTD.

        • @Porthos: I didn't know of the change till now. I'm still waiting on my FTTC connection. Apparently April-June yet no work has started :/

        • @Dezeption: Lucky for you! Thankfully the node I'll be connected to is only ~300m away so I should still get full 100/40 speeds, but is a bit of a joke with how it's all over the place with who gets FTTN/FTTC.

What does the Telstra rollout schedule say? https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/nbn/nbn-rollout-schedule… Get the excel spreadsheet and click on the second tab (Expected RFS) and that should say when your actual expected RFS date is.

        • @Porthos: Not sure which one I'm on exactly but all between late may early June

        • @Dezeption: Yeah I can't for the life of me remember where I found what DA I'm in!

Surprised you haven't seen any workers around, although not that familiar with the FTTC rollout compared to the more obviously one with the FTTN nodes.

        • @Dezeption: Finally remembered the site I got my DA from - http://www.rolloutmap.com.au

          It’ll be under ‘rollout ID’

        • @Porthos: thanks, sadly all the info it's giving me is build commenced. No further details

        • @Dezeption: Yeah, go to the Telstra Wholesale link I gave you previously and look for your DA and it'll give you an actual (estimated) date of when you go RFS :-)

        • @Porthos: hmm yeh but unless I'm not understanding you I still don't know what my DA is. There's 5 possible options and the rollout map.com.au only shows commenced with nothing noting what my DA might be

        • +1

@Dezeption: Are you accessing it on a mobile? Have to use a tablet/computer to be able to see the DA information.

      • Suspect I will get FTTN where I live.

Thanks for all the comments I'm looking into this more but this was a great starting point.

Seriously neglected the NBN in the past as my previous address won't have it for another year or two

        • Put your address into the NBN site and it'll tell you what type of NBN connection you're getting.

  • Decent price but the one I bought on eBay last month was a lemon, had to send it back.

  • +1

Bought one from the previous sale from Warehouse1. I am really happy with this router. USB3 can be used to hook up an external hard drive. It is damn fast for router this price. I am getting around 100+ mbps data transfer rate.

    • I thought that it was Wireless 1 which sold it, where did you get Warehouse 1 from?.

      • +1

        From ebay.

        Seller
        Warehouse1 Pty Ltd
        [email protected]

        • Oh well. That's the business Warehouse 1 which is now in liquidation.

  • +3

One of the bigger advantages of this router is for it to run OpenWRT/LEDE https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/linksys/linksys_wrt1200ac
See here if it turns out this is a v2: https://forum.lede-project.org/t/support-status-wrt1200acv2-…

    I have the WRT1900ACS and it's a solid performer running OpenWRT/LEDE.

    • I run Gargoyle on a Netgear WNDR3700v2 and with quota and time restrictions active, my NBN speed (100/40) became close to half. Does OpenWRT/LEDE also do this on the WRT1200AC?

      • Possibly, but wont be as easy to setup as Gargoyle for this purpose. This documentation looks like a good starting point: https://openwrt.org/docs/user-guide/services/qos

        • Thanks for the link.

      • Got any packet filtering enabled? That's what will chew cpu (and drop routing performance)

    • I flashed the router with "OpenWRT/LEDE" but revert back to stock firmware after using it for a while. UI is boring for me. And also, you miss a few nice features of the stock.

      • Like what?

        • USB Storage management
          Network Map

  • I have a Asus RT-N56U

Would this be any good as a repeater ? or could i use this as my main route then use the n56u as a repeater ? i need to get a wifi signal around 30 meters to my garage only 2 walls to penetrate and open ground ? suggestions would be great for a good repeater and if this is any use to me

    • If you need to get signal far away, please use 2.4 GHz. Have you check your 2.4 GHz signal vs 5GHz with ASUS? Install InSSIDer version 3 free on your laptop to measure it.
I don't think there will be any better if you change to this linksys.

  • Not sure why so many negs … its half the price of others on ebay ? and also a very well reviewed router , also easy to use custom firware .

  • What's better, this or tp-link TL-MR3620 AC1350 which is only $99 new from msy? Edit: Just realized this doesn't have gigabit Ethernet ports :(
Then there is this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/362533, but I just need the wifi access point/extender function.

  • I have a HFC NBN connection with a Network Termination Device (NTD). Can I connect this router directly to the NTD or do I need a VDSL modem router? Thanks

    • +1

Directly. Only FTTN/B need the modem

      • Thanks. Can I connect a network switch to the NTD and then use the switch to connect a wireless router and other connections via powerline devices?

        • +1

Router needs to connect to the NTD first then the router to the switch and anything you like can be connected to the switch. As for thr EoP that depends on your wiring in your house but aslong as it's all on one circuit and of decent quality they will work

        • @Dezeption: Thanks!

  • If my apartment is FTTP connection. Will this router be enough?

    • Yes all that would be required for your connection is a standalone router, no modem needed
