  • I'm currently getting 30% with Origin. How? I called them. Btw the going rate was 24% I think

Regardless of who you are with, call them and see how much % off you can get for paying in full and by the due date. Almost every time (according to friends and family) they were able to get a better deal than advertised.

    • Origin is currently offering 28% off in NSW through one big switch.

    • that 30% off usually more expensive than this 27% off, because orgin's rate is higher.

Oh, btw I also got a 3 year rate freeze also by talking to them. Saves me a ton as rates have spiked recently. Don't know what I'm going to in about 14 months when the rate freeze runs out though :(

  • I am trying to compare this with my current supplier.
I am being charged as per below.
    is this a better deal?

    Anytime Usage - Step 1 (EC296303:1) usage - 1843 MJ, Rate - $0.044500 = $82
    Anytime Usage - Step 2 (EC296303:1) usage - 1814 MJ, Rate - $0.029000 = $52
    Anytime Usage - Step 3 (EC296303:1) usage - 1012 MJ, Rate - $0.028500 = $28

Have a look at Adam's spreadsheet for comparison, you will have to update the 23% on the sheet with 27% for Alinta to get an actual idea.

      • thanks I will check it out.

Edit: Had a look. Dont understand :(
        My head is spinning.

I've updated the spreadsheet (as cited by Hits above) to include the discount.

To make use of it first of all take a Copy (File, Take a Copy) and then you'll have an editable version. If you are on a standard electricity plan (not a time of day usage or any controlled loads) just put how much electricity to use in the yellow cell at B5. Elektrikrevamp, in your case you'd put 4669 in that cell. But the number of days for the billing cycle in yellow cell B6. If you have solar put the amount you're feeding into the grid at B7, if not then put $0 in there. You can then see what the total bill would be from atlinta in cell H34.

      • Thanks Adam, I will check it out.

      • Thanks Adam, appreciate your efforts in putting this together and sharing it with us.

And I should add that I very much doubt you're paying $0..044500, $0.029 and $0.028500… those rates would be phenomenally good, like 10% of anyone else in the market. More normal would be $0.445, $0.29 and $0.28 per KilowattHour (Kwh), i.e it seems the values should be 10 times greater.

EDIT: unless. does that MJ mean you're gettng billed in MegaJoules instead of Kilowatt hours? The rates would still be very good if those are MegaJoules. Google tells me that 1 MJ = 0.277777 Kwh. So if these are megajoules you'll have to convert it by multiplying your total Megajoules by 0.27777 before putting it in the spreadsheet.

  • Is it only a usage discount or is the daily rate included?

    • I think Usage only.

  • Doesn't Alinta have a fair go 43%?

    • In NSW?

    • They do in VIC.

    • I am on a fair go 30 in NSW.

Do proper research on the usage rates… %off is a complete crock..

I get 0% off and I'd bet my rates are lower than this offer

    • Who do you go with?

    • Go Open Misère to validate your Negative 🗳

I'm with Pacific Hydro in Victoria (Ausnet) and they have better rates and daily access charge prices than any other provider including their ridiculous %off in my area..

All im saying is whip out the calculator and do the maths

Stop being lured by large %off numbers..

Easy to offer 27% off when your prices are 30% more expensive than the competition

Edit.. For shits and giggles I checked their Vic Ausnet rates… (And 43% off offer)

Daily charge $1.24 vs $1.05 (not discounted)
        Peak $0.298c (with 43% disc) vs $0.294
        Offpeak $0.139 (with 43% disc) vs $0.115

So even with a 43% "discount" I'm paying less with a 0% discount

    • Agree it all depends on rates… Amaysim offers 40% discount on usage plus daily rate but their rates are outrageous and there is a fine print which says the discount is applied to your next bill so sooner or later when you change provider you will pay at least one bill in full without discount.

This particular deal works out a bit cheaper than my current AGL 27% one on Ausgrid all day rate.

  • I am with Origin, same 90 days period in last year $280 but this year $556. I don't use fridge, air con, just lights and fan for shop and it shouldn't gone up like that. I am looking new provide to change, any suggestion? thanks.

    • Normally this kind of % benefits have a limit of 12 or 24 months. After that they revert to full charges. Before expiry of your benefit you should either renegotiate or change supplier. This particular deal says the benefit period is 24 months I believe.

      • thanks for info, appreciate it
