    no restrictions? awesome!

Good reasonable price for the movies..
Still can't believe that if you just walk into your local village, looking at $21 (last time I looked) for a ticket..jeepers.
They really are pushing everyone to buy online.

    • +10

But then they charge a $2 booking fee. It’s stupid!

      • +5

Yes.. that too.. forgot about that sneaky charge.

        • +1

Just turn up at the box office and purchase (redeem your voucher). no booking fee.
          Works perfectly :)

      • $1.20

  • The title really should show that it's VIC/TAS only.

    • Will add, cheers

  • +1

Damn, just got a couple from RACV

  • +1

Wish this started now, really want to catch as much Oscar nominated films before the actual ceremony for some reason.

  • Expire on Wednesday March 28th. Ready Player One comes out on the 29th. That sucks.

Checking the whole month of March, new releases look pretty average.

    • +5

You can usually use them to book a future session before they expire- I’ve done it before at Hoyts, so long as the voucher is valid on the day you book you’re fine. I think the week’s sessions come out on a Tuesday? You could book on the 27th/28th for a session on the 29th/30th.

Book in person at the cinema if you want to avoid the online booking fee.

      • Good thought. I'm going to give it a shot.

Getting a 'We're sorry, but there seems to be a problem with the payment method you have tried. Be sure to check your credentials to ensure they are correct' after entering CC details. Gave up.

    • got same error on couple of different cards. will try later

    • same here, try from both PC and mobile, got same error.

      • it's working now

      • Keeps breaking for me

    • Yeah getting the same error…and more worrying is that I checked my bank and its been charged.

CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT FOR THE CHARGES!!

      • RIP, I have been charged too, but received no confirmation on the tickets… What do I do?

        • I'm hoping it will get cancelled by tomorrow.

Wondering if a common theme for the failed attempts is ad-block/ublock/ghostery extensions or similar?

Not trying again on my other browser since I was buying multiple stacks of tickets…

        • @Telios:

Is yours cancelled yet? mine is still pending :/ do I wait till monday or do I call up my bank or the cinema.

PS. Sry 4 the Qustions's, still a nub at this.

        • @seanlee7887: Yup mine are still in pending (pretty common over a Sat/Sun for a non-cleared credit transaction).

But I'm keep a damn close eye on it, if it does go through you'll probably want to contact the bank and dispute the transaction for non-delivery/failure/no product. Pretty easy to prove as it will have a transaction ID that Village could match up.

    Everyone's mates in Tasmania..

    • +2

Family. Everyone's family in Tasmania ;)

  • To avoid paying the booking fee -
Just turn up at the box office and purchase (redeem your voucher). no booking fee.
    Works perfectly :)

  • Too late. I already bought into the Hoyts offer.

  • Coburg - does this means that no charge for the drive-in ?

  • Damn, have they been ozbargained? Not accepting my payment details! :(
Tried on iPhone aswell as desktop, no luck!

  • From what I tried - if my purchase was over $100 it wouldn't go through.

I tried with 4 gold class and two standard tickets, $117 total, it would give me the same error "We're sorry, but there seems to be a problem with the payment method you have tried. Be sure to check your credentials to ensure they are correct."

Just tried with 4 gold class vouchers i.e. removed the two standard, $100 total, it went through successfully

    • it's working now regardless the total amount. i think there was a glitch and they have just fixed it.

      • Yep, working now! Thanks OP!

      • Not working for me. Tried every hour for the last three hours…

  • Almost bought a couple of gold class, but then checked the monthly movies for march and really couldn't see a whole lot we'd want to see, let alone wether the couple we may be interested in would make it to Gold class or not.

I'd say that Village themselves looked at their line up for march and don't expect it to break taking records so trying to drum up some sales for films people may not have seen at cinemas otherwise.

  • What are "Gold Class Tickets"? The website only has different "Gold Class" items or vague descriptions that there is "luxury", "food", "drinks" etc.

No idea what I actually get for $25.

    Pls halp.

    • +1

Gold class tickets are the actual ticket to the movie. This is listed as the 'Discount voucher' which are currently $25.
There is also gold class vouchers that either act as a gift card to be put towards the drinks/food menu, or an offer they have on the sites is a $25 for one beverage, hot food item, hot drink.

      • Thanks, linton.

So again, why would I get a $25 gold class ticket instead of the standard $8.50 one? It’s for special screenings, events?

        • +1

Gold class is their premium product. It generally costs around $50 per ticket.

          You get:

          • electric reclining lounge chairs in sets of 2-4
          • a cinema room of 20-30 seats max per screening
          • "table service" / wait staff who bring out cooked food and drinks to you during the movie
          • a pre-movie licensed bar area.

As lysp described, it's a different class of movie going. If you feel this might be something you're interested in, this is a great way to test the water so to speak.
          $25 is a good price.

We enjoy going as a special occasion date night, once or twice a year.
Enjoying a film in comfortable recliners, a few drinks and a smaller (usually only seats ~20 people) environment just feels a little 'classier'.

That's said, if you go just to see the movie, then it's probably money better spent on the overpriced popcorn. :)

        • All clear now. Thanks!

  • +1

Tried with a few cards. No good.

We're sorry, but there seems to be a problem with the payment method you have tried. Be sure to check your credentials to ensure they are correct.

    • +1

and now check their balance. everytime they charged the account.

  • +2

Crap, I tried 3x times and got the error "We're sorry, but there seems to be a problem with the payment method you have tried. Be sure to check your credentials to ensure they are correct." I've been charged 3x times and no order confirmation!!! What do I do ?

    • I called my banks (tried different card with different banks), they said they will wait for confirmation that payment is received by Village and then cancel it. So far all these payments are not confirmed yet, so they can send it back

      • thanks so much :)

        • sorry, wasn't clear.

I'm not from industry, but from what I know, all bank charges have few stages:
          1. Bank blocks amount
          2. Vendor defined for charge
          3. Vendor confirms charge and sends detailed description

For these Village Cinemas charges, I'm stuck on p.2. i.e. banks see this is from Village, but doesn't know for what exactly. If Village doesn't confirm and doesn't send detailed description, Bank automatically cancels that.

Right now I'm waiting if charges will go to p.3 - then one of the banks promised to call me, other said I will need to call and ask to cancel, but most probably I will have to wait for around a week and payments will be automatically canceled.

The reason I called banks is that I want them to have a note about my call 1 day after charges and not after 2 weeks.

        • @Novousp: So I should call my bank to advise ?

        • @Novousp: Which bank are you with if you don't mind me asking. I'm with bankwest.

        • @kindra: NAB and what ever is Qantas MasterCard :)

        • @drezy: I would yes. if village decides to take the money, it would be harder to explain why didn't you call earlier

        • @kindra: btw, I also wrote to Village email. that's their reply:
We can confirm that your 5 x $17.00 attempted purchases today and yesterday have not been successful. Unfortunately I am unable to advise as to why your attempted gift shop transactions failed to complete as there are no known issues with the gift shop website and we are continuing to see other customers transactions process without issues. At this time we would suggest speaking to your bank for further information.

I replied that this is not really a truth and gave them a link to this very post.

        • @Novousp: I called both bank (NAB) and Village. Bank advised to get the merchant to send a fax or email to the NAB with transaction ID's etc. too much hassle. THen I called Village who checked and advised the payments were unsuccessful and they charges will be reversed in the next few days. Lets wait and see.. They also said not to try and buy the tickets again as my card has been flagged or something. I'm not gonna bother buying this any more too much hassle.

        • +1

          @drezy:
Sorry to hear it. I'm happy to buy a few extra and pass them onto you if need.

        • +1

@Novousp: They're a bunch of liars. Their own Facebook page is full of such complaints to this very day.

        • @drezy: Care to share the contact number for Village? I have been charged incorrectly as well but cannot find a number to ring them on. Thanks

        • +1

@Austin 316: I posted on their FB wall and they told me to email them at [email protected]

          Their phone number is: 1300 555 400

  • Tried going through checkout four times today, but it kept failing — and they still charged me each time. This isn't the first time their checkout system has crapped up — I had to wait 3 weeks for a refund last time, which is why I've always tried to use PayPal when booking tickets from their site.

  • Same issue as with others. Didn't accept my credit cards when trying to check out and when I looked into my credit card account, I was being charged for each attempt!!

Now I will have to waste my time unnecessarily by chasing them up for a refund. So frustrated.

  • terrible by Village. shame on them
i managed to get 2 standard tickets using my Visa debit though

Just received this email from them:

    Good morning,
    Thank you for your email.
We can confirm that your attempted purchases on February 26th have not been successful. Unfortunately I am unable to advise as to why your attempted gift shop transactions failed to complete as there are no known issues with the gift shop website and we are continuing to see other customers transactions process without issues. At this time we would suggest speaking to your bank for further information.

When purchasing vouchers via our online Gift Shop, all credit or debit cards are checked to confirm that there are available funds for the purchase prior to the purchase taking place. This check is commonly referred to as a pre-authorisation.

Should your purchase not complete, the pre-authorised amount is released by your financial institution. At no time does Village Cinemas receive the funds that are pre-authorised. Please be aware that the pre-authorised amount held by your bank can take up to 10 business days to be released. However, if you would like to reply with the following information, we can send ANZ a request to expedite 3 x $8.50 releases for you.

For the ANZ card ending in xxxx:
    · Name on the card
    · First 12 digits from the card number

With regard to the other 1 x $8.50 pending charges on card ending in xxxx, we would suggest speaking to the card provider to see if they have a process to expedite the release.

they are idiots. I am worried about that response in their FB page:
"After trying multiple times to purchase 4 tickets online on your website (each time the website told me my payment was unsuccessful), not only did I found out today that I’ve been charged 11 times by Village Cinemas (i never got any confirmation email?), my credit card has also been fraudulently charged multiple times since then!!! "

  • +2

They need to take the frickin website down until they fix the problem with their payment gateway so it doesn't keep authorising payments off cards but then not delivering the tickets!!! Far out, the Village Cinemas CIO needs a boot put up his arse… preferably out the door.

  • Village are idiots! Charged me 4 times and no tickets. I now have to chase 3 different banks to make sure I get my money back. What a headache.

  • charges from 22nd are cancelled today, that's good news.
