  • Guys we have a few hundred only, but stock has to go!

    • wow few hundred, that's heaps, i7 720qm being replaced by i7 740m

      • yes and no,
this is not the reason for this price being so low,
it will not last long at this price.

        • +1

          Sandy Bridge is coming. :)

      • Sandy bridge will not be available until March, and even then the price increase will not reflect these prices now,
Sandy bridge benefit will only be seen on the core i5 and i3 pricing, it will all come down to the cost/benefit ratio, as in, will the increased costs actually benefit performance?, or will it be cheaper and better to offer a ATI or Nvidia chipset for less while providing more performance than a Sandy bridge setup?
We will not see this until April next year.

This particular price drop is simply becuase a lot of resellers and retailers have to many of this on hand.

        • wait till sandy bridge gets released and then MLN starts justifying how good the purchase is lol

      • As I have said, Sandy Bridge will be a justifiable purchase, as long as the costing benefit is there,
No point being 10% faster but 40% more in cost.
Yes I will justify Sandy Bridge being good when the cost benefit ratio is there.

  • Is HP bringing out a new model? Why's every place clearing these out…

    • Yeah could be but this is a very good laptop non the less sawesome for those looking to play games.

    • Its a chain reaction guys, nothing to do with what HP is doing really,
HP and everyone else are always bringing out new models.
There is no period when a new model is not being released.
when one company dumps stock, depending on what stock holdings the other has, we are forced to move on price, I am pretty certain everybody is losing money on these machines.
The customer benefits from fierce competition in the rare circumstances this happens.
Any price below $1100 on this is a great price.
At MLN we have too many units to risk becoming aged inventory so we had no choice but to follow suit and sell it at a loss. Its the nature of retail sometimes.
Good news is, the customer benefits.
New pricing is around 30-40% more for a similar unit.

it was $986 before, must have just changed,
we all have to clear this stock.

MLN offers no credit card surcharge,
MLN shipping charge is $29 flat Australia wide.
Ensure that the RAM upgrade does not void your onsite warranty

it really depends on you guys as to what you feel comfortable with and how you calculate what you value.
Its great that you guys here online get to benefit from these prices.

    • no its not incld shipping but yes with more ram

    • WHO NEED 8GB???

      • It's great to use extra RAM as RAMDISK. Much faster….

  • They are clearing them as they are shithouse laptops my bro has had two brand new dv6 die on him in two months he is returning the third don't buy these rubbish laptops I'll never get hp again

    • No surprise there. Three of my mates had the same issue with HP. I wouldn't recommend a HP to anyone.

HP has the highest failure rate, this is becuase of the Compaq sub brand, Compaq machines are intended to be a cheaper solution and you will notice most Compaq laptops being sub $700.
The reality is you get what you pay for except with Apple which has an unsually high failure rate especially when you consider most of their machines are above $1300.
If you took the sub $1300 HP failure rate out, I am very certain by removing Compaq from the equation the overall failure rate for HP would be much better.
Its all about how you manipulate the data.
Most Asus machines are above $1000, so they are also built differently.
        http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/SquareTrade_laptop_reliab…
Going by the failure rate MLN sees I can confirm what I am telling you guys here, we sell between 1000-1500 laptop computers per week and the information we collect is very reliable.

        • I personally own a HP branded laptop and after just 1 year of occasional use the DVD drive is having read error. I've tried different discs and got the same result. My $600 Acer I bought 2 years ago is still working fine. I personally won't be getting a HP or Compaq from now on.

          i love this rep
"reality is you get what you pay for except with Apple which has an unsually high failure rate especially when you consider most of their machines are above $1300."
overpriced compared to others of its calibre

@HustleGame: The same DVD writers are used on all laptops pretty much regardless of price. I've had $3k laptops with DVD writers that failed every 6 months, about the same rate as my $1k laptops. DVD drives are very fragile.

        • While this sounds honest, essentially you're saying that either Square Trade is selling a massive abundance more Compaq PCs or that Compaqs are so bad that they're about twice as bad or worse as any other brand on the market.

Which doesn't ring all that true.

        • I made this remark less than a week ago.. why HP allows its main brand to be tarnished with the Compaq junk I have no idea. HP used to have an excellent reputation for quality and service.

        • Unfortunately customers want computers for less, the HP branded machines have much better reliability than their Compaq counterparts.

        • I think overall our Asus offer for $1146 maybe a better offer,

GB's and Ghz, are not everything.

  • Hmm.. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/36117. Looks like the same laptop but pay $6 more for 2GB extra RAM :-)

Guys we just took a very large order,
so not many units left right now.

Ugh, another i7 without full HD. What a waste. I'll stick with my ageing 1680x1050 dual core for a bit longer.

    • +1

Using a new Dell i7 with 1920x1080 at the moment and loving it. I agree, 1366x768 is quite poor. I was using 768 horizontal pixels in 1995 for goodness sakes.

      • I'd love to order another dell, but the price and lack of competitors full HD spec machines in retail stores is holding me back at the moment.

    • +1

Yes when I was looking around for a laptop getting a decent screen was hard, odd seeing as years ago it was easy to get the 1050 screens… in the end had to get a Dell with a 1080 on it… 768 is just absurd these days…. but seems to be normal!

    • I'm waiting for a good deal that has full HD.
