Getting VERY temping with this TV now
Any difference in quality between this and the Hisense N5 75"?
Mostly just the GUI. I have the 75N5, it's a bit slow, but decodes a wide range of files and doesn't crash. Stunning looking panel for the price and upscaling is terrific. Not sure about panel differences on the 65" sorry.
Screen size is the only difference
Big differences - N5 Series doesn't have HDR and wide colour gamut, N7 Series does. Also, as alluded to above, the GUI is different: VIDAA in the N5 and VIDAA U in the N7.
I'm always tempted when I see this model on special but am wondering if this is a "big" upgrade over my current Samsung 65" plasma (2013 model) PS64F8500?
http://www.samsung.com/au/support/model/PS64F8500AMXXY
Obviously the Samsung is not 4K but the HD picture on it, especially with something like Fox Sports HD, is excellent.
I wouldn't be upgrading.
Plug a watt meter into your 65" plasma, you may find its sucking down +/- 1000w costing you say 35c per hour to watch it. Its a great motivator to upgrade to something new.
There's no need to up upgrade. OLED would be the next step from plasma.
With the electricity savings you will probably save $200 a year from plasma to LCD.
I like OLED, yes blacks are great and makes the colours pop BUT
1) O LED, O=Organic, does the same as plasma and its has a brightness half life. MicroLED wont have this problem but is still in prototype (next gen, self lit QLED tech)
2) OLED have shit whites, its the tradeoff for deep blacks. White on OLED are grey, even on the latest and greatest
3) HDR needs brightness, OLEDs are max, 800nits. Many HDR10 LED panels are 1000-1500 (and rising), plus whites are white too
4) Colour bleed and GHOSTING are a problem and its not covered by any warranty! This is a HUGE problem, way worse than lightbleed on side lit LEDs!OLED is in its second gen panels, they have improved, Instore demos show them off the best but they are deliberately kept away from QLED for a reason!
Google more info on youtube.
Hi Tex,
I would not, very slow up-scaling form SD/HD, I had a guy at one of the stores show me a 4k nature video, of a wolf chasing its pray, the Hisense N7 (65") could not keep up, in fact the pay was translucent displaying artifacts around the image and at times disappeared from the screen all together, this was running on a Sony and Panasonic at the same time and was not the case, running perfectly on the Sony and Panasonic. Could not imagine what it would look like with SD/HD sport or action movie, you would need to go up to a name brand top end TV to compete with plasma eg Sony 8500/9000, 94000 , or (BEST) LG OLED, not sure on the Samsung but sure the QLED would do the trick. Why would a 4K nature video be upscaled? Artifacts might have been caused by the motion smoothing which you can - and probably should - turn off.
As someone who owns a Hisense 65M7000 4k (several models older than this) and a Samsung Plasma, i suggest you largely ignore this post above. OLED is far from perfect, the last gen still had many downssides to them and generally quite poor value for money (not sure about current).
Now I don't know what VanAxe saw, whether dodgy store settings (very likely) in the tv, a dodgy media file or codec issue, but it does not really make sense. Maybe the store are trying to influence sales in a certain way or just crap at setting them up. Even my Hisense runs all sorts of 4K media fine and upscaling Fox Sports HD is fine with the only real drawbacks being inherently those that come with LED compared Plasma, and how Plasma simply kicks ass for the fluid motion of sports, even over most current LEDs. There are pros and cons to both the 4K displays and your Plasma. From someone who was in your shoes and took the plunge late 2016 i will say… unless you have a burning itch to actually watch 4K content such as 4K blurays or via uhh other means obtained, then no, you're not missing much. 4K HDR content can be bloody jaw dropping, but its pretty limited. I'd suggest you hold out until you actually need to buy a TV… or want to scratch that itch and get a new toy for mostly shits n giggles.
Stick with the F8500, I’m still loving mine <3
Will seriously be devastated when it finally dies.
Thank you all for the replies - seems the agreed consensus is stick with the plasma. Must admit I can't really fault it, as I said, a proper HD picture on it is excellent.
You've just saved me $1500 and an awkward conversation with Mrs Tex, cheers!
If you can be bothered to re-calibrated the plasma every 1 months, you may as well stay with what you have as content is king and 1080p is awesome. Netflix will do 4k for some content but it looks the same and you need to be getting 50mbs down to enjoy it (it says 25mbs but trust me you need double that if you dont want to be frustrated)
Setting up picture quality is the trick as plasmas degrade over time with use, so this helps get better and longer useful life.
But if you going for another 65" this is a good one… As good as any samsung LED and dont go LG OLED as they do muddy whites, suffer ghosting, burn in too & ware out like plasmas! (its the O=Organic) also brightness is half that of LED/QLEDs. They also suck for gaming too (despite what they tell you) ~ beware the OLED fad, your going to spend too much and get burnt!!!
If you can be bothered to re-calibrated the plasma every 1 months
Umm what? I’ve literally never had to recalibrate my F8500 and the picture is still as good as when I got it.
12 months… weird that error, sorry and NO its not, its just you have gotten used to it and as its changed you have not noticed.
@srhardy: If you say so. I'll just keep enjoying my plasma :-)
Man these TV's are getting cheaper and cheaper!!!
Anyone know the distance between the feet? Might not fit on the cabinet!
For me it's about 30cm - but, hey, I'm only 180cm tall.
For anyone considering this TV just go for it. Got mine last month for around $1580 and thought I got a bargain. Excellent panel that won't disappoint.
A note on the N7s (I have the 55 inch), the picture settings for motion enhancement, e.g. film 24p, custom, smooth, super smooth etc, does not stick for HDMI or inbuilt apps. It always default to Smooth.
Other than that, it's fantastic value.
There’s a firmware upgrade to fix this (and other) issue. Not available though the TV itself though, need to contact Hisense (or download link from the Whirlpool thread ;) )
Yep firmware upgrade fixed it for me. Takes a while but if you follow the instructions it's relatively straightforward
Well the 65N7 is the Chinese version of the Samsung Build 7 Series TV except for the Smart Part;
meaning that the LCD Panel is the same but the internals like Power Supply etc. might be source cheaper somewhere else.
You also will not have the same manufacturing quality checks and support like Samsung would have e.g Firmware Upgrades. But most importantly you will miss out on the Samsung SMART Processor and Software.
Apparently the Hisense version is not very good. For the price it is a good TV for watching things but will not have all the bells and whistle of the Samsung 7 Series.
PS. Have a look at the 65" Kogan 7 Series TV, same thing but worse than Hisense.
I thought Hisense claimed to develop it's own technology called ULED which these have
It's basically a marketing term
So what’s ULED then? Well unlike OLED it’s not actually a single technology. ULED, or Ultra LED, is the term Hisense uses for a collection of 20 different patents around four key areas: Ultra Wide Colour Gamut, Ultra Local Dimming, Ultra 4K Resolution and Ultra Smooth Motion Rate. As the name suggests, this is an LED TV technology, but those propriety patents all work to enhance the viewing experience at home
I think I will wait for the TCL X2 65 to come down a bit.
Reason:
- QLED display
- Android 6/7 TV
- comes with a pretty nice soundbar (save $200-400)
Really wish I could see an X2 in a store somewhere! All the TCLs I have viewed are S versions I think, not that impressed with them when the action gets fast. But I love them in demo mode.
Had a quick look and Appliance Central are also doing the X2 65 inch for $1999
https://www.ebay.com.au/i/273018386142?chn=ps
And the X2 55 inch for $1280
https://www.ebay.com.au/i/272923605066?chn=ps&fl=a
Both with free shipping. Appliance Central is also part of the upcoming Ebay 20% sale, so it's possible (though of course a long way from guaranteed) that these prices could come down by 20%, to around $1600 and $1000 respectively.
Theres a 20% coming? When is this? i did a quick search and couldnt find
Edit - found it. PCTECH20 starts 20 feb. Think i will wait till then.
i will buy one if its around 1600 !
Not for the 65N7, the ebay post says this weekend only, right before the 20% sale starts.
Good choice. the ONLY downside is its 60hz (120 fake), just wish it was 200hz
BTW makes no difference that i can tell
yea i think for a gamer, "maybe" the n7 is better but i only watch TV and movies off the TV box
Just as a positive note about delivery times from the seller for anyone Sydney based. I bought the same TV from them a couple of weeks ago via eBay as well.
The order was placed in the late evening, I received a call in the morning to discuss delivery options and it was delivered that afternoon. Definitely happy with both the TV and the purchase process (though would have been even happier at this price!).
I'm in Sydney, ordered last night, they called me this morning, scheduled for deliver this afternoon!
Damn, this is getting tempting!
Really need a 15-20% off code to force me to get this.
This tv has been 20% off (at goodguys right now?, and around Boxing Day by heaps of retailers )…..
The tv price was dropped by Appliance (to lower than previous 20% sales)….AND IT HAS FREE DELIVERY.
I’m saying the smaller size of the discount (in this case) is not a very good measure of the strength of this deal.
You guys should have listened to me. You can now get it for $1404 with a 10% off code.
There'll be a 20% code going live the day after this sale finishes (PCTECH20), imagine that! :)
Yea, ebay post specifically says this weekend only for the 65N7
Can't Find info if fald or edge.. full specs on website don't have full details either… Says local dimming… But exactly what type, is the question
Local dimming would indicate it isn't edge
Many cheap manufactures state this and it's edge.. So unless definite answer we can only assume
Forget cheap, many manufacturers do period.
And to answer the question the N7 series are all edgelit with local dimming (as oppossed to direct lit/full array backlit).
The series before this n7,n5 they used sharp panels which were fald in the 70" and 75" range. The 65" not sure and why they went to Samsung bemused me.
Their sharp panels where better then the Samsung panels they use now. Noting that even though screen nits was low but quality was similar to expensive panels in terms of colour and blackness…
@chuneeperformance: OK, i've not really looked into them much. I briefly owned a 70" M7000 which was direct backlit (only one in the M7000 range) which i think used the same sharp panels? I ended up trading down to the 65M edge lit. Pros and cons to both in that series at least, i find the edge lit easier to live with. Mainly because i would easily notice uneven brightness in the backlight of the direct lit panels during sports and it was more annoying than the dodgy edges of edge lit. Maybe it was a Hisense quality control issue in that series.
This or the Kogan 65 inch? Price difference is still significant. And the Kogan is marketed as having a Samsung panel
They both have a Samsung panel.
Yeah and the Kogan one is hundreds of dollars cheaper
Because the software sucks for Kogan.
Still waiting for a sale on the 75…
Aren't they on sale now? $2798 for the 75N7 at JB.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…
Was $2400 before Xmas during the Black Friday sale but I bought the 65" for $1400.
How's the input lag on these TV's?
have a look at the whirlpool thread or the avforums review for the uk version. Apparently it is in 30ms region which is pretty good.
edit: https://www.avforums.com/review/hisense-h65n6800-4k-uhd-led-…
28ms with or without HDR in gaming mode.
Obviously without gaming mode it will be much higher, usually in the 100ms region.
