Uniden Wireless Deluxe Pack. ONLY $20 (RRP $149 Approx.) Officeworks (in-Store and Online)

600

Hey all,

Officeworks is selling this Uniden wireless power deluxe pack. Initially they were sold in-store for $149, then they went down to about $80 but now they are going for a crazy $20!!!

Essentially it's meant to charge mobile phones wirelessly using the connectors supplied.

Personally, I reckon it's a crap idea because you still got to connect stuff to the phone so it can charge wirelessly so you may as well use your wall charger or an emergency charge.

But hey, great xmas or secret santa gift! and for $20, you really can't complain :)

I can confirm that Officeworks Oxley has plentiful. grab a bargain today!

Here is a quick review i found on youtube to give you an idea of its function http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0zzHUkmF7g

enjoy. peace!

interesting concept but yeah your right, if you still have to plug it in might as well just have the normal charger there to plug it in, if your device supported it out of the box would be pretty awesome to leave where ever you normally store your phone, would essentially mean never have to worry/think about charging it…
    edit:
    actually doesn't sound to bad…

"With the Uniden Wireless Power Pad all you need to do is fit your device with a specially made charge case (similar to a silicon tight fitting case except that these come with wireless charging functionality built in) and then place it on the Uniden Wireless Power Pad. Your device will automatically start charging!"

sounds like you just leave the case on it…
wonder how safe these things are, radiation etc wise?

Uniden Iphone Sleeve $45 lucky it comes with one!

think there are two type, sleeves and plugs…
if the sleeve fits its good and you just drop the phone on it, if not think you still need to plug it in.

    • Yeah.. I went as far as the checkout, but I can't see the point after researching how it works and what you get.
The iPhone case thing looks bulky and is apparently too snug a fit to remove each time, you only get 1 power disc in the kit, and they're $28 each to buy extras!
Since I don't own an iPhone, it's just as easy for me to plug straight into the actual carger rather than tether the disc to my Galaxy S…

      • If you need more power discs/iPhone sleeves, just buy more kits ;)

        • +2

why buy separate power discs for $50 when u can just buy another complete kit for $20 and get more accessories :P

    • The iphone sleeve has an ugly nub at the charging-port-end. Kinda spoils the whole thing. I wonder if it works with a Palm Pre's touchstone back.

Bargain price. Not so great product.

    • Spot on comment!

    • 21st century is a gas when theres tech to cure over tech syndrome.

  • officeworks auburn on parramatta road has a lot of stock

  • A+ for the wireless concept, C- for execution/practicality!
when are they going to build this induction tech standard into all batteries/battery covers so you just buy the charging pad and it works without fiddly cases/sleeves that won't work with existing accessories?

yep good point. like i said good xmas pressie for someone else if ur on a budget ;)

To answer your question, it's coming in near future. They have recently finalized the standard of wireless charging.

I'm looking forward to the future.

  • bought one but i don't know why since i don't really need. LOL i guess i can give it a shot and if i don't like it, return it back to OW

  • Bought 1, most likely a price error, most store and warehouses have the stock

  • I dont get the point of the adapters.. you just bring the cables back into the situation.

just bought one as I've been holding out to get a case for my 3GS. For $20 it isnt a bad investment. Tested it on friends iphone 4, case fits but not that well. with a pair of scissors you can make extra holes for the flash on the iphone 4 ;)

Also tested charging on a nokia phone at the same time as my 3gs and it works great. comments about the case being hard to get on and off are rubbish, case fits well and easy to get off.

Pros - dirt cheap and works well
cons - doesnt follow the new wireless qi standard for inductive charging (but for $20 who cares)

All the negative comments - remember it cost you $20 so again who cares, if it cost me the RRP of $149.99 then i'd be a little annoyed :)

    Love it.

  • So… wouldnt it be easier to plug a phone in to charge vs putting on the sleeve?

Also whats the down side to not following the standard?

    • I guess the idea is that you walk in to your house and just put the phone on the mat. it then charges.

      Swings and roundabouts.

the point of the standard is so that you can buy any "qi standard" sleeve and know it'll work with any "qi standard" mat.

With this product you have to get a uniden sleeve to work with your uniden mat.

Again not ideal but for $20 worth a punt. In my situation I lost my case for my phone and wasnt prepared to buy a new one as I wanted a wireless charging station. Been holding out for these qi standard ones but they arent readily available yet. Given that I'm not getting a new phone for a while this is a perfect plan B.

In short, if you have a iphone 2g/3g or 3gs get this. If you dont probably not really worth it.

      • So that begs the question of whether this sleeve is good enough/convenient enough to use as a daily sleeve.
does it only work with iphone? not any other similar sized/shaped devices?

        • the connector in the sleeve is for iphone only :(

      • Or even better the manufacturers could somehow integrate the standard into the batteries and so sleeves are not even needed. All we need is a mat and that's it.

  • can i pay online then pick up at store? if not what is the shipping fee. thanks

edit, yes we can pickup but there is handling fee of $4.95 bring total cost to 24.95$

  • I'm pretty sure this isn't inductive charging. It just has contacts on the bottom of the disc/case, and the copper bars on the pad from the wired circuit.

$20 sounds pretty good, since it should come with a fairly decent 5V DC adapter if it can charge 5 devices, which would cost you 20 bux alone anyway.

    • +2

I agree… looks like it's a contact charge to me.
The good thing is that probably makes it significantly more efficient than actual wireless charging!

    • +1

yeah, the brochure says that too. "Our patented, proven technology is safe and does not use electromagnetic fields."

"The direct metal-on-metal contact allows for a very efficient and safe power transfer without generating harmful radiation, microwaves, or magnetic fields".

boring technology then… ahaha. Definitely not worth the RRP!

  • For me its saying

"Product UNWPDELX will be placed on backorder."

To save me the trouble, does anyone know if there are any at the Glen Waverley store?

    • for me its fine… on which step did you get that msg?

      • just after you choose shipping and log in. It still lets you process the order, but it says that at the top in a big yellow bar. And there's a little warning triangle next to the item in the cart. I'm trying to buy 3 of them.

        • im putting my visa number now and do not see any yellow bar thing.. i buy one only. choose pickup store.
          strange

    • They have lot of these in Glen Waverley store but sold out online in Victoria, NSW still has them

      • Ta

  • loads of stock at the elizabeth st store in melbourne. had about 3 shipping boxes left plus the 3 already out. So I reckon 20+ there.

The comment about not being inductive charging sounds about right. If the three contacts dont sit right it wont charge.

  • Does it work on ipod touches or the samsung galaxy s? What other things can it work on other than iphones?

  • works with anything that has the apple connector.

Comes with tips for - nokia, samsung, LG, palm micro usb, mini usb, motorola and sony ericsson. The sleeve is for iphone/ipod touches only.

There's a dongle that you plug (using the afore mentioned tips) into your phone, you then sit the dongle (and phone)on the mat and away you go.

Personally I think that's rubbish and if you're going to do this then you might as well not bother and just use your charger. Looking online there's a sleeve for blackberry and I also think Nokia too.

The other competitors have products with sleeves for other products.

good concept, but radiation is a big issue

    • no radiation. it's a boring contact-based system.

      • yeah I just find out that.
It is not real wireless charging

    • read about ionizing vs non ionizing radiation. you have alot to learn.

hey for $20 who really cares about the finer details.. i have many many gadgets in my house and this is brilliant, it does the job, yes there is ONE cable attached to it but its worth it for losing the rest of my many chargers.. i went down to parramatta officeworks, they still have quite a few left, the staff didnt really seem to know about it but once i said it was in the catalogue they were fine.. picked up two :)

  • Seems like a pain to put my iPhone in a sleeve to charge it when I could just plug the cable in and take up less room in the process.

  • I just got it from Parramatta too!
The guy infront of me just bought it so I just clarified what the price was and hey, $20.

It's handy for a second iPhone charger since they only give one original one, and like, the cable for the charger is also the USB cable so I misplace it sometimes. :/

  • Any ideas on the charging rate for this device ? Will it be the same as charging from the wall ?

  • great KK present.

    • too expensive for KK usually only upto $10

      • Lie! Say it only cost $10, then have the recipient think your an awesome legend!

        • Or just give them 1/2 of it and keep the other half to give them next Christmas. Now thats the true spirit of Christmas, lol.

  • Officeworks Glen Waverley had so many the staff were giving it a go. I'm using mine more like an expensive powerboard - it can charge 4 of the phones in my house, and may be used to charge my nintendo DS (mini USB -> USB -> NDS converters).

These little attachment cables also look easy to make if you need more, just a 2.5mm TRS/TRRS connector on the end (correct me if I'm wrong).

    • +2

Yeah… glen waverley officeworks put a new pallet @ the front. Funny how one customer didn't know it was there and walked straight into it…

  • Just bought 12 of these from Sydney CBD store - great christmas pressies!

    • +2

how much you planning to sell on ebay? :)

      • whatever is left over :)

    • LOL LEGEND! :P

  • Plenty available at Glebe shop on Parra road.

  • Can someone tell me what the output on the supplied power brick is? It should be well over 2A and I'm guessing 5V?

  • 64 in Bundoora - 59 when I walked out.

Guy I asked - "we have that unit… and it is severely marked down…".

    That's a few people sorted for Christmas…

  • I think the stores are realising how shit it is and just trying to get rid of it at a KK price.

I bought a couple for KK.
    Thanks OP!

  • Faqntastic stocking filler for those with everything :)
Thankyou so much for the heads up .

  • Only about 3 left on the shelf at Croydon SA store.

  • Nice deal, :) I can see lot of smiles this Christmas!!

    • i picked one up this afternoon. I have no idea what to do with it…

  • Heads up for brisbane folk, none left at the CBD store when I got there :(

    • There were quite a few at the Milton store this afternoon.

    • yeah..i went to the store too…no more left

    • There was like 9 left on the shelf at Oxley when I was there at 7pm. Don't know if they still have anymore left at the back.

      • yea mate, we had a few more at the back and in a different aisle! so there was a more than 9. ;)

  • +1

I rang East Perth and was told there were very few in stock in most stores . BUT most stores seemed to have 60 in transit and should have them in stock on moday or tuesday .

  • …And the officeworks site goes down :-(

    • mate, just call up first nearest store tmr and they;ll be more than happy to put it on hold of ya!

  • About 20 or so at the Morayfield store.

  • i agree with the "good concept pretty dumb implementation" sentiment! i was at officeworks at QV (melb) this evening, they had maybe 15 in stock. thought about getting it then decided it wasn't THAT useful. but the stocking filler idea may see me going back for 2 tomorrow :)

  • Just picked up 5 at Highpoint, VIC. There was a few more left but it seemed that they have a good amount of stock.

  • This is pretty much a dock but compatible with more devices. If you dont have an iphonbe/blackberry you still have to plug stuff in so it kind of defeats the purpose with these other products.

  • +1

I picked up this product because I noticed it was at a cheap price, looked at the box blankly for about 5 mins, then put it back down and walked off, lol. In other words, I couldn't find a need for it. It's on clearance for a reason, cause it's a gimmick.

  • Melbourne QV store had loads (at least 20) out on display.

  • got mine today now testing it and seems ok.. but yeah its not really wireless, but definitely saving the number of plug/adaptor you need to have. just think this as "extension"
case for iphone is big, if not this thing is perfect for iphone user.

  • just got mine at vic park wa
have 2 mobile but only have 1 power port free and have to keep changing power adapter in order to charge them :P
$20 for convenience and less cable lying around not bad value

  • LOL at how many are on EBAY .

  • Hmm lots of stock, silly cheap, maybe cause it's not so great?

  • Price online has now gone up to $29.

    • I just call my local store and they gone up as well to $29 in store.

  • +2

If only I could cook a steak on this à la George Foreman ;-)
