  • can you use the $20 vip credit and order online then pick items in store with this code?

    • I think there was something in the t&c's about about the $20 credit only useable in-store

After 2 recent book buys, I HARDLY consider 20% Off Borders list a deal.

    Eg:

    • India (D&K) a large-format, hardcover, just over 300 pp.

      Option 1: Borders Au$ 76. & change

Option 2: Amazon (affiliate): UNDER Au$ 30. (incl shipping)

    • Cooking for Geeks (author spoke at The Next Hope conf)

      Option 1: Borders almost Au$ 70

      Option 2: Amazon: three (3) copies ~ Au$ 84 (incl shipping)
      avg cost / book: Au$ 28

(This reminds me of a "Danish Intelligence Test," mentioned in
    [BetterPlace.com's] Shai Agassi's talk(s) at TED.com & Fora.tv:

Option 1: Buy a Petrol car & pay 60% TAX on the sales price
Option 2: Buy a 100% Electric Car & just pay the sales price

If you're not intelligent enough to make the right choice,
they want you to move to Norway… ;-)

Sorry, Borders, you're going to have to do better than 20%.

PS I grant, that it takes a week or two for delivery…
but - tell me - don't you think there's enough reward
in buying early, & use the savings buy more [often] later,
by planning ahead… maybe even buying an extra copy or 2
(to bring down the per-book price) to give to a friend
or - why not? - sell on eBay, to make the cost of first
    lower still.

Hey, it pays to think outside-the-square here… ;-)

To any FIRST-TIME Amazon affiliate buyers:

Be prepared to "stand your ground" on the original deal.

For the India, the affiliate eMailed me, saying they'd
cancel my order, unless I agreed to pay an additional US$ 30,
as it was such a large book & Amazon's shipping price couldn't
possibly pay its way to AU.

Just remind them that they made the offer, you've accepted it,
and let 'em know that you'll be complaining to Amazon, ie,
    if they back-out now.

We did all that (5 min's of time to compose an assertive reply)
to -keep- the deal listed above for India book.

Don't take No for an answer, & you'll be rewarded.

Borders do currently offer an online price guarantee:

"Borders Australia (borders.com.au) “find it cheaper and we will beat it by 10%” Promotion

We are so confident that our pricing is competitive with prices on any .au and .nz website as well as Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk that if you purchase a book, CD, DVD or blu-ray title from borders.com.au and then find it listed on any .au,.nz website, Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk for a lower price (including shipping costs to an Australian address), then we’ll refund the difference plus 10%!! Thanks, I've just ordered a book at bookdepository for half the price.

  • There's a quite expensive textbook I need that's actually the cheapest at borders. This will make it even more so. :) Thanks

  • I would search booko first before buying from Borders
