It's not the cheapest it has been (by a long shot), but not much movement on the Da Fang coupons lately.

Limit 1 per order, I've ordered a few so not 1 per account deal. Previously could order multiple quantities in the same order and throw in a seller coupon to knock a few more $ off multiple orders, no longer.

DD4off6 for an extra few $ off - thanks nismo!

Updated with the 6% off coupon, thanks everyone who picked that up - I was using a larger coupon code before, didnt realise there was a lower value one.

UPDATE: Currently out of stock, will keep an eye on this deal as they added more stock yesterday when they ran out [after about 5 hour delay]. I'll remove OOS when its back in stock.

Price has been increased, fun is now over. If it drops back to a good price, will repost.

I wonder if these are working again now - the latest Xiaofang model doesn't work in Australia anymore and a few people got burnt

    • +1

The Da Fang of the Xiaofang?

I've ordered around 300 of these from various suppliers and none are failing.

Xioafang, different story; locked to mainland China IPs.

The only issue I know with these is the "not connecting" issue and its a factory reset to fix. If you get the blue light of death, try connecting, dont hit reconnect when it fails after 90%, press and hold setup button until orange light goes out, unit resets, add again and it works.

      • Yeah sorry - what I meant is I wonder if this model works in Australia as people have been having problems with the latest xiaofangs that are shipping - i've got a couple of the xiaofangs and are working great… wouldn't mind adding one of these to the arsenal but would hate to buy a brick!

        • +1

Yeah, I have these working in Australia (large fleet of them) - 300+ - runnning 5.5.1.243 firmware, perfect - no issues whatsoever.

As mentioned, some seem to have a glitch that means you have to factory reset them if they wont connect to wifi.

Streaming works well, motion detection, integration with other devices - love these tbh.

        • @MorriJ:

Awesome - great info cheers ;)

        • @MorriJ:

What have you got 300 IP cameras pointed at? :)

        • @noise36:

          pointed at? :)

Probably @ Ozbargain, so he couldn’t miss any deal. ;)

        • @noise36: Monitoring patients in large scale medical centre waiting rooms.

          @OzSikh:

Why would they set up a camera to watch a website?

        • -1

          @Lorindor: it was a joke

        • -2

          @OzSikh:

Obviously, but it didn't make sense.

        • +2

          @Lorindor: ok mom!

  • +1

These are good for the price, have this one and the small square one, both work as you would expect and can view both though the same app.

  • Was just in the market for this. Thanks.

  • Is this one better than xiaofang??

    • +1

yeah, this one has an inbuilt battery, moves around and up and down and works without needing to be hacked.

      • inbuilt battery

        Didn’t know that !! 🤔

        • looks like I am wrong on the battery.

Apologies I could have sworn that it had one

  • Does this let you stream remotely? e.g if I am at work and I want to check what is going on at home.

    • Of course

    • Yep

  • How long does delivery normally take ..thanks

    • +1

They seem to ship out fairly quickly, standard China to Australia delivery time.

My order placed 2 days ago has shipped over the weekend apparently, but long wait as always for the parcel to actually arrive.

      • Thanks👍

      • You are lucky one. I paid xiaomi multifunctional gateway on Monday. It still no shipping info yet. I even email them with excuse like popular demand would be shipped once they get it. Beware!!!

        • I've placed quite a few orders with DD4 and yet to have an issue.

On the 24/01 placed a few orders - da fangs, mi routers, 3 seperate orders, all have shipped.

Just for kicks, ordered 3 gateways to see how long they take. Decent(ish) price.

  • +1

Can it record remotely? So I don't need to take the SD card out for review.

Does any in Xiaomi range do this?

    • Think you can playback / download video remotely, but it is stored on local SD card.

I.e. if camera is destroyed or taken, footage goes with it.

Remote or cloud recording might be possible with custom firmware - someone else can comment?

  • wonderful XIaomi

  • Any good as a baby monitor cam or are there better options out there? Xiaomi or otherwise?

Need it wide angle for 2 cots. Audio optional.

    • Perfect as a baby monitor cam. Has built in mic and speaker. Can set it to detect motion so will automatically focus on movement. Is a PTZ. So can movie it around through app.

      • I forgot to ask - good app support? Eg tiny cam? Need it to start quickly and also have the option of running for a long time while open.

  • I guess this works only with "Mi Home" app?

  • Out of stock for me

    • Try again in a few hours or tomorrow? I'll update once they restock.

They restocked this deal a few times already, so hopefully someone is manning the computers and will add more stock.

      • Still out of stock :(

  • Woah all sold out

      • I was limited to 1 unit per purchase too and dd4.com does not seem to like/accept gmail account….

  • Damn it! While I was trying to remember my password for the site it got OzBargained.

  • yeah seems sold out for now as getting message: No Enough Product

    • +1

Yeah, this happened yesterday when I grabbed the last 20 or so. They are likely to add more stock if they have it as they are running the discount for a few more days.

If not, LITB; Gearbest etc will come to the rescue I am sure and generate a code.

  • Wonder how long these will work in Australia for? Thinking about this camera but got burned with XiaoFang not working here. Currently have the nightmare dealing with lightinthebox not wanting to refund (escalated to PayPal). God knows why Xiaomi would limit to China ip lol.

All I want is remote viewing over phone and to setup SD card to continuously save a recording.

    • What you mean not working here?

I got dafang and xiaofang working on mainland app including the robot vacuum… if I pick another region they don’t show up there…

I bought mine from gearbest, light in the box

      • +2

        New Xiaofang's won't work with a non-chinese IP address.

You can hack them and get local rstp still, but wont work even if your app is set to mainland china etc.

International model still works fine - you probably have the international model.

      • The new ones apparently just don't work outside China. Even with the app set to "mainland China". You just get the message "use only in mainland China. This product is only used in mainland China." You have option to then "complain" (lol). In which Xiaomi send you back a generic email saying the equivalent of "tough luck". I am just hoping PayPal can refund for this junk.

    • The Xiaofang dramas were as a result of the international models right? The fact they made a unit for the EU and Americas and wanted to block the china ones being used in those countries, then implemented a blanket ban on chinese models outside of china.

With Xiaomi it's hard to know of course. Our population is less than a small chinese city and we don't have the expendable income we used to on the scale of things.

    • It just matter of time. Xiaomi camera will be used in mainland China only. Dame it.

      • It does seem crazy. I wonder what is their motivation for blocking? Is it some government related issue? I want to like Xiaomi their design and specifications are good, but like so many other Chinese brands, it seems to be cut and run with supporting the actual stuff they create.

  • Available for $20.99 at Zapals looks like.

    https://www.zapals.com/xiaomi-mijia-dafang-1080p-gimbal-ip-s…

    • Shipping is Regular non tracking (7-15 business days) $6.52

      Unfortunately.

  • Darn it, miss it again, I’m in the market for 2 of these

    • Zapal

      • shipping is not free

  • Can these be mounted on angle on wall?

    • +1

They come with a universal camera mount socket (1/4-20 (1/4" diameter, 20 threads per inch).

You can mount them anywhere pretty much using action camera adapters or alternatively native camera mounts.

  • Anyone having issues setting this up with the gateway? I've got one and it shows up on the app but won't let me actually pair it to the gateway. I wonder if it's a dudd one. I have other Xiaomi products paired up to the gateway but this camera doesn't want to work.

    • +2

      Factory reset it.

Set app to mainland china obviously.

You are getting the blue light of death right? Times out trying to connect?

      1. Power on unit
      2. Press and hold the setup button on the bottom of the camera UNTIL the orange light goes out briefly (approx 6 seconds before light goes out, then release)
      3. Release the setup button
      4. Device factory resets, does its spinning around thing etc
      5. Should then pair with your Mi App

The same can also be done with an SD Card.

Insert SD Card before trying to pair
Try and pair, let it fail - dont hit reconnect
Back out of the screen, remove and reinsert the SD Card, unit resets
      Try pairing agian

      • Pretty much did this but will try again. It does spin around and show up as a device I can use on my phone but doesn't want to connect.

        • Device online in the home screen area? It could router blocking certain return ports that are initialised. If you are getting as far as its usable on the home screen etc, not quite sure?

          What firmware are you running?

        • @MorriJ: Managed to get it working after the 100th time, not sure what the issue is but it's binded to the gateway now.

  • @morrij do they have to work through xiaomi cloud services, or can they be setu/hacked to do RTSP or connect to 3rd party. Can you give some details on your 300 pieces deployment? Thanks in advance

    • OK.

      NOW:
The cameras are still running stock firmwares; using a NAS as an emulated router end point. Video gets sent from each camera to the network location for that camera.

We have one account per centre with a bunch of cameras on there for live feed viewing etc, configuring devices and the likes.

Failure rates have been good on them so far. Trying to get another 50 or so at the moment.

      LATER:
Switching to the newer firmware out there which support H264 RTSP. Development is slow on these cameras as not many contributing and its a bit hit and miss with some of them in terms of reliability (blue light of death).

      https://github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks/blob/mas…

^^ Working firmware with rtsp stream.

      Features
Full working RTSP with H264/MJPEG. Based on https://github.com/mpromonet/v4l2rtspserver
SSH-Server(dropbear) with username: root password: ismart12
FTP-Server(bftpd) with username: root password: ismart12
      Webserver(boa)
      Image-Snap(Get Jpeg Image)
Horizontal/vertical motor rotation / move to center
      Turn on/off blue/yellow/IR LEDs/IR-Cut
      Local h264 recording possible:

  • Has anyone been able to make these cams record to a google drive / cloud drive ? Without a USB I have found them to be useless.
Also, does anyone know if you lose the QR Code (required to setup with mi home) and if you have to set it up again, where do we get a duplicate QR Code ?

    • +1

Re QR code, remove the device, reset it and then start again setup in app - will generate a QR code based on your settings you input.

It supports basic SMB to save to a router/smb server, nothing complex like google drive etc.

If you want to auto-move to google drive, sure; but requires 3rd party interaction.

      • Thanks for replying. Re the QR code, when I set it up, I had to show the camera the QR Code I got in the manual. So you are saying, Mi Home will generate a QR Code for Dafang ? Which I probably will have to show to the camera ?

Could you please point me to something that will help me make Dafang to save to an smb server ? I can write some scripts which will probably save to a cloud drive. When you say 3rd party tools ? Are there any out there already ? I glanced at a few IFTTT recipes and couldn't see anything for dafang.

        • +1

When you add a dafang to Mi Home, it will generate a QR code which ahs the wifi settings on it and everything you have provided to setup the device.

          https://www.gearbest.com/blog/how-to/xiaomi-dafang-1080p-sma…

^^ Have a quick read of that.

Once you have the dafang setup on your Mi App, there is an option for storage - dumpt the video oin the router.

Advanced Setting -> storage Management -> Video is dumped to the router -> has the SMB path needed to dump the video.

        • @MorriJ: Cheers mate. Finally got my head around the QR Code thing.
I cannot find advanced setting or storage management - either in the dafang three dots on the top menu or the mi home app. Any pointers please ?

        • +1

@AussieB: Upgrade the firmware on camera - you really want 5.5.1.243 and possibly your mi home app?

        • @MorriJ: Jjjjusst did it and I see it now. Thanks heaps mate.

  • I have a xiaofang that was working no probs but then got the dreaded use only in china message even though I never updated the firmware. I can still see the camera feed though if I go to the "My smart cameras" tab and play from there but that's all I can do.

Is there no workaround at all? The only way to have this functioning is to fanghack it? It's rather annoying as my older xiaofang on an even older firmware (it has a pin hole button for setup) is still working no probs. Do you reckon downgrading to that firmware (2.9.something.something) will make the newer one work properly?

    • I downgraded my XiaoFang to 3.0.3.56 with instructions from here: (https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks/issues/185)
In combination with the MiHome app v4.0.11, I'm able to bypass the region lock, but to be honest, the app performance has been iffy at best.

      • Trying to view motion detected videos is hopeless… I have wait minutes for the video to load. When I didn't have continuous recording enabled, it wouldn't load at all.
      • Continuously recorded videos work better and I'm able to scrub through the day.
      • Sometimes the MiHome app randomly signs me out.
      • My camera isn't visible when I'm not connected to my network (despite there being a remote viewing feature being advertised). It also weirdly doesn't work when I'm connected through my home OpenVPN either…

Though from what other's are saying, it seems the DaFang is better, despite being unable to hack it?

      • +1

Dafang was hacked last year champ. I know because I contributed to the compilation of the h264 lib stream compilation.

Long story short, we were waiting for an OTA firmware to direct inject or bake what we wanted into a full image.

Plenty of hacks out there with full access:

        https://github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks

  • price increased US $23.59
    :) lol

    • another price increase to US $24.85
now its no more fun :) lol

      • Was fun whilst it lasted I guess :). Sorry, the previous times they restocked, they kept the same price.

  • +1

On a side note, has anyone else had a lot of trouble with the application (Android).

I notice it works for a while, but then I get logged out, and am unable to log back into the application (it times out).

I can log in on the https://i.mi.com/ site fine, and a incorrect password provides immediate feedback that it's incorrect.

However when I type it in correctly, it just thinks for ages, only to return a "Cannot sign in, please check your network connection and try again".

I've Force Stopped, rerun, cleared cache and data and rerun, uninstalled the application and rerun, changed region (from Mainland China to other zones, rerun and even put it back and tried again).

    It's honestly so frustrating.
