Is this a new high for sale fares to Hong Kong?

this isn't a bargain, has been cheaper than this many times before.

Go with Qantas. Always in the $600 mark.

Cathay's service is on another level compared to Qantas.

Care to elaborate? In which category you find their service much better? I have been on both airlines to hk and I really can't tell the difference.

        • Agreed. Experienced both airlines on the same route, not much between them. Definitely not $100 worth of difference in service.

Maybe a difference in service if any issues arise (flight delays, missed connections, missing baggage), but my flying luck has been pretty good so far.

        • Customer service, food, and just the whole experience IMHO.

I'm not a FF, i fly maybe 1-2 times a year, but every time I've flown Qantas, I wished I had flown with Cathay. Just personal preference.

I feel like their planes are much more comfortable too.

There's a reason why Cathay was ranked number 5, while Qantas was ranked 15, in 2017.

        • @drose01: Airasia rank 26. How in the world they rank higher than virgin Atlantic and other better full service airlines.

        • You've got to take these ranking with a grain of salt. I mean look at Hainan, whats that doing in the top 10. As for Cathay, I've been with them more times than any other carrier in the last 4-5 years, they are ok, but far from exceptional, and certainly VERY lacking on the culinary front. They certainly don't hold a flame to Emirates, Etihad, or Qatar.

        • @ash2000: Emirates is exceptional IMO. Qatar and Etihad I found so so, business was amazing service in Eitihad though, like first class

        • @UberIsCool: Unfortunately, beyond brushing my hands over the subtle leather seats during boarding and disembarkation, I have little to do with business class.

        • @ash2000: normally the same, but $500 from Cairo to Abu Dhabi with chauffeur pickup and drop off to anywhere in the UAE, lounge access both Cairo and on arrival in Abu Dhabi and amazing service is worth it

        • @UberIsCool: Ahhh……Bargain! chauffeur service sounds good…. a far cry from the free Etihad minibus I used when in Abu Dhabi.

Cathay's time is more flexible, however..i would say Qantas is more comfortable.

Cathay always posting this same deal but no real deal especially when most prices in this period are $1400~

  • +3

    • but is this the cheapest price available now?

$603 syd to Hkg with Qantas

  • And get a Washington DC connection for just another $250 or so: see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/356966

  • Rep, When will European flights for Dec 2018/January 2019 be on sale? Or have I missed one already? Thanks.

  • +1

My recent searches for a flight to HK were coming up much less than this. Around $620. No deal.

  • +1

They can do better price. Last time I flew to Hangzhou only $500plus.
If Qantas and Cathay is the same price. I will go with Cathay. But if I need to pay more for Cathay then I will just go with Qantas. Not the best deal at the moment.
