cheap fast shipping is always a bonus …. if you need a new phone how long can you wait using the $39 one from Woolies ?

    • +1

It's not FREE though. Costs 15USD

cheap fast shipping is always a bonus

He didn't say it was free fast shipping.

Shipping cost doesn't really matter too much as long as total cost is cheap.

It's like those "$0" items that you have to pay delivery for ($5.95). Used to come up somewhat often on CatchOfTheDay etc.

        The item's not free. It's $5.95.

        • Did you mean 21aud as cheap shipping cost for this 200$ phone.

          Yeah right

        • @sivshen: yea well I'll agree with you there…

  • +4

Bought a black one using the free tracked shipping and cashrewards, great price for a great phone, thanks

    • +1

I've bought the black one too. How much is the cash reward. I don't think there's one in nz

      • +1

Purchased one for mum, she likes the big screen and the font size.

      • 5% cash rewards, definitely worth it

  • Thanks, just purchased one but used the second tier postage (express postal)

    • How did you choose different postage? I can't seem to change it, but it says: "Shipping Time: Expedited Express 3-6 business days" Edit: Didn't add the shipping charge until right on the final payment screen.

      • +1

Sorry if this is too late, but I went through the paypal sign in and then it took me to a seperate page where i could choose the shipping and insurance, etc. before officially completing the order

        • Thanks. Yeah - I ended up going through the order and found out the shipping was added there. I almost decided not to order because I found that quite deceptive. I haven't used LITB before.

  • How is this compare to Mi Max 2

    • -1

Mi max is flagship, this is a cheap one

      • +7

MiMix is flagship, MiMax is budget. MiMax is also 6.44"

        • waiting for mi max3 love my max.

        • -4

Thank you for correction. Xiaomi is not that user friendly compared with Oneplus.

        • +1

          @nanoxz:

You're referring to a brand's user friendliness by their naming conventions..?

    • I had Max 2, really good solid phone, specification is quite similar as 5 plus apart from screen size and battery.

  • +4

    missing 4G band28

    • +12

Damn lost my bet… was betting with a mate that within the first three post there will be the obligatory no band 28 comment.

      • waiting to see some OzBargainers like yourself, form a Band28 music band :-P

      • +1

was on holidays in Gippsland over Christmas, my LG v20 with band 28 got data reception, the Xiaomi without (Redmi note 4) didn't so had to tether off my phone.

There are utilities so you can check what bands you are connecting to and signal strength.

        • +1

Yeps this is why you have two phones and two providers. Gotta have a backup if your out and about in regional Australia.

        • +1

i have one phone and one provider LGv20 with optus, my son owns the xiaomi redmi note 4.

        • +1

@garage sale: I was speaking in general terms. I normally drive regional and there are areas where Telstra has a gap but Optus works.

        • +1

yep, where we went we had optus and telstra sims, one (Telstra) was in a Huawei modem ..Optus in 2 phones, a V20 and a Redmi note 2.. only band 28 worked, it was a shared tower, Telstra worked better from living room, Optus from bedroom, probably how antennas were on the tower.

no other bands made it to the house for data.

We found the same (hadn't be in regional area in 10 years), Optus was better on some, Telstra in others.

  • USB C?

  • Is it the best bang for buck budget xiaomi phone? Need a new phone to replace the good old iphone 4s.

    • +4

Yep either this or mi A1 with stock android. This for hardware, A1 for software. But tbh all the xiaomi range are incredible value. The biggest compromise is still camera but they're improving slowly!

      • +1

Cheers. Purchased. You're such a good salesperson

    • +2

I also use a Redme Note 4X as my second phone. Works very well and battery is a beast.

  • Fellow OZB need your help, this one or A1 ?

    • A1

    • +3

TBH Miui is really good UI, it's getting better and better, it has some better feathers than clean Android UI

      • Wondering will the MIUI keep on updating android version? Will it get at least two or three next iterations of android? A1 might be getting these update from Google.

        • May be, and may be not…

        • +2

MIUI has very good on that, even Mi 2 or Redmi 2S has been updated to MIUI 9 recently

        • you won’t get 3 iterations.

        • +3

Xiaomi will update a total of 40 devices to MIUI 9 over the course of the year.

MIUI 9 was unveiled late last year in China, and the global version of the ROM is available for a slew of devices. The manufacturer is making the update widely available, with the five-year-old Mi 2 set to receive the latest version. To put things into context, the Mi 2 launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

          https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.androidcentral.com/miui-…

        • @jassssone: correct me if I'm wrong but even though those phones are getting a updated miui, it is based on older versions of Android. So the mi2 won't be getting Oreo for example.

        • @jassssone: Still waiting on for MIUI 9 on the Redmi Note 3. They said it would come late December. Tempted to flash the developer rom… but I'll wait.

        • +1

yep, xiaomi have their own skin , MIUI, and that doesn’t mean the underlying version of android is updated, just the look and feel and feel of the phone and a few apps.

it’s why the A1 is interesting ( on android one program) as updates are provided via google, but is it google that writes the new version of android for the hardware ( who pays them and determines their priorities) or is it the manufacturer ( priority sell more phones) , xiaomi, that writes the new versions of android and google just distributes it ?

my next phone will be one off the android one program ( cheapie with band 28) …. as at least you get 2 years of OS updates ( hasn’t been around for 2 years so time will tell), but no guarantee of how quickly you get latest versions compared to pixel.

        • +1

@garage sale: the Band 28 ones aren't that cheap. The next cheapest is the Moto X4, and that's over $400. I suppose it is cheap, but I like to stick to my $300 limit.

But for the added $100+, you get Band 28 and NFC, so that's something.

As for the Android One program, The manufacturers and Google both have parts to play in terms of updates. Security patches are pushed out by Google, but upgrades to the next version of Android are handled by the manufacturer.

        • LOL , yes I noticed that none of the Android One phones are not cheap, the moto 4X is what I had been eyeing…. but Yes, I have a sub $400 mindset.

People seem to compare the Moto 4X with the Moto 5G plus, and the moto5 is cheaper … so 4X value is Android One and Project fi…. which I don't need.

Seems Google in pushing Android One and the Project Fi …. project fi, $20 pm for unlimited calls and SMS seems expensive when you add the $10 per GB for data.

But hey, the idea for google is global product , not the best local phone plan.

    • +2

If you really can't decide between 2 products then go for the cheaper one.

      • +1

cheap is good in that if you don’t get the support you expect, or updates you expect, you can always buy another phone.

i’ve been let down too often in how long it takes, or even if it happens, to get new versions of android as manufacturers decide to focus their coders on new models rather than support legacy models which ha elicited sales after 12 months.

  • This might be a repetitive question but i don't know much about phones so can some of you phone geeks tell me is this phone better than my galaxy S6 edge? I can look up in forums but there is too much info and paid reviews which i don't trust

    • +2

      Your Galaxy is better

      • +1

        galaxy is better

        • Thanks guys!

        • the phone geeks compare down to the equivalent of beer in 330ml vs 375ml and 375ml is more but might not taste as good…. the voice in the head just won't stop.

    • +2

Depends, But galaxy s6 edge still have the edge in term of features, but in Ram department Redmi 5 plus better, processor may be marginal but S6 still have the edge, camera S6 better according to the f-stop

      Raw Power

redmi 5 plus: Basemark OS II: 1426 / Basemark OS II 2.0: 1226
      Basemark X: 10484

      S6 Edge: Basemark OS II 2.0: 1750 / Basemark X: 27046

Is depends again what u want to do.. if u just want to replace ur samsung because start to play up may be this phone is good enough, but if u want the features of all S6 edge you need to look a different phone ( may be Nubia Z17 Lite or One Plus)

      • Yeah It was starting to give up I had it serviced 3 times, they have replaced every part in it but that parts most likely are second class/refurbished so hopefully it doesn't start giving me issues again. I never used the edge feature i actually hate it and the sole purpose I got the edge is for it's looks. Thanks for your input much appreciated!

  • Any reason to upgrade from the Note 3?

    • +4

Yes, Redmi 5 Plus (SD 625) is better than note 3 (snapdragon 800) in multicores scored

the krait 400 cores of the Snapdragon 800 are more powerful than the cortex A-53 cores of the Snapdragon 625. However, the Snapdragon 800 only has 4 cores while the Snapdragon 625 has 8 cores. So while the Snapdragon 800 has a higher single core performance, the 625 has better multi core performance. This means tasks such as loading games etc will be faster on the 625.

nature than the krait 400 cores of the 800, but the fact that the 625 is built on the 14 nm fabrication as compared to the 28 nm fabrication of the 800 makes the Snapdragon 625 more efficient than the 800. In fact, phones with the 625 are often known for exemplary battery life.

Additionally, the Snapdragon 800 in the S G Note 3 runs extremely hot - as in hot enough that when I am gaming it burns my hand. There is no such trouble with the 625.

Because of this heat, the Snapdragon 800 will thermal throttle more aggressively than the 625, resulting in poorer sustained performance which is what matters for gaming e

      • -2

Thanks for the info, but my note 3 pro has a Snapdragon 650, not an 800.

        • +7

Ahh I thought you talk about Samsung Note 3

if you compare this to xiaomi note 3 pro , the Note 3 Pro edging is performance but Redmi 5 Plus edging on RAM Size, Screen size, Newer OS, and Better Battery efficiency

          as raw power wise

Redmi 5 Plus: Basemark OS II: 1426 / Basemark OS II 2.0: 1226
          Basemark X: 10484

Redmi Note 3 Pro : Basemark OS II: 1914 / Basemark OS II 2.0: 1426
          Basemark X: 14717

        • +3

Should've said note 3 pro then

  • This phone is listed as US$139.99 on aliexpress now. Update: checked and found it was 3GB version.

  • Anyone know if this has global rom? Did you guys add insurance or paypal is enough for that matter?

    • Not sure LITB sell the Global version. but this phone has a global ROM

      • the last chinadroid I got was a Redmi note 4, came with global but bloatware also. Seems they reflash domestic Chinese ROMS with global, possibly as domestic Chinese ROM phones are cheaper.
So reflashed to Generic global but have never gotten auto software update for the OS (need to flash updates manually), only playstore apps are auto.

    • Thank you guys, ordered one.

  • +2

No blue why phone gods why?! :(

    • +1

I've always wondered why Apple don't make a red phone.

      • +1

Yes, it does a red iPhone 7.

    • +1

Sad. I also want a blue version.

  • This or Oppo f5?

    • +1

Depends both phone are good.. Redmi 5 Plus is more all rounder phone compare to oppo f5, Oppo F5 better in Camera and selfie. As in processor Redmi 5 plus has the upperhand little bit as powered by Snapdragon compared to mediatek….

but if it up to me. If i want to use it more to day to day may be i stick with Redmi 5 plus, But if u care about selfie and image capturing stick with F5

plus redmi 5 plus is hell cheaper

      • Thx :)

  • Thank You great price ordered one

I was wondering what is a good front and back protective case to go with this phone?

    • +1

Back protective case is included on the box…

  • Any bargains for Mi Max 2 please?

    • +1

Lowest one was $210 from gearbest.
      Most achievable was $270-$290 range.

  • I'd wait until official LineageOS comes out for this phone. It's got a Snapdragon chip, so it'll probably come eventually.

  • What is a Redmi?

I wonder if these phones give the Chinese government backdoor access to all your files and nude selfies/gf pics

    • +1

It's the budget range by Xiaomi - which is one of the largest phone manufacturers in the world. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese govt had a backdoor into these, but then, the US govt seems to have a backdoor into all the phones from every other company, so it's much of a muchness.

    • Backdoor gf?

  • Which represents better value in terms of what you get for your money, this or the note4x?

    • latest Note 5 Plus better in term of value now and future value compare to note 4x

      • How so?

And where does it mention about free case in LITB

        • Note 4x is Mediatek
5 Plus is Snapdragon more support for snapdragon compare to mediatek

          Look @ unboxing Section

        • @echocae: did you mean Xiaomi Redmi note 4x

        • @sivshen: Yes REDmi note 4x

        • @echocae:
Redmi Note 4X also have SD625 version

        • +1

Yes I meant the redmi note 4x SD625 version, compared to this… I'm guessing the 4x has better battery life, this has bigger screen… any other major factors?

        • @jassssone:
REDmi note 4x with SD625 only 3gb ram isnt it?

        • +1

@echocae: Also got 4Gb/64Gb version, I am using one now
