    important details!

*Customers must activate TiVo Media Device and create a CASPA Wallet before 14 February 2011. Cash Back requires submission of redemption form by 31 March 2011 and may take up to 8 weeks to process. CASPA credits are not transferable, refundable nor redeemable for cash and expire on 31 March 2011

keep your $100 credit and sell me the tivo for $249 and i'll take 2!!

    • Well presumably the $100 credit costs them less than $100, hence the reason they make this offer. What might be better is to suggest a more attractive package - e.g. a Wireless Adapter + Home Network Pack instead of the $100 credit (for example).

  • what is non retail (naked) box?

    • Sharp,

Plain brown box. All inclusions just like a new one.

      ODS

  • Not refurbs?

    • itsross,

      Not refurbs.

New units in either slightly damaged boxes - or in a NON retail box.

Inside they are the same as new :)

    ODS,

What is the Australian warranty details? Is it 12months back to Tivo, or back to you? Where are you located?

    Cheers!

      TZK,

These are Australian stock and come with TiVo warranty.

Warranty is back to TiVo. We are located in Sydney.

Thanks for answering all our questions ODS.

  • Can we still claim the $50 cash back from Tivo?

    • staden,

The offer is for $100 worth of Caspa credits.

You cannot claim any other offer with these units.

      ODS.

  • Where does cash back (re: T&C) come into this? Do you pay more than $349 up front?

    • gadgetguy,

      As above:

The offer is for $100 worth of Caspa credits.

You cannot claim any other offer with these units.

      Thanks.

      ODS.

    • Yes, from $24 extra for delivery.

  • Great deal, if I did not already have 2 I would grab another. With CASPA watch your net usage for downloads, unless your one of the few freezone ones. Otherwise you pay for the movie and pay for the download 1-2 GB per movie out of your plan as well. I am with bigpond hence will never use it.

Anyone recommened these over other PVR units? I am getting rid of Foxtel in the next month and want a good alternative for FTA.

    • They are good.

Easy to use, even my ex-wife could use it…..

      • +1

I got rid of Foxtel 4 months ago, bought a TiVO and its almost paid for itself. I have set up series records and likes etc accross most of the 14 channels and there is always more to watch than I have time to. You wont look back…

    • +1

Definitely recommend… even though these are the shoddiest electronics ive ever come across (I'm on to my 4th replacement!). But at $349 even without the caspa credit it is worth it, so easy to use, and nowadays with all the new channels on free to air there is no need for foxtel! Got more TV shows saved than I can watch!

Do note you can never turn it off (takes several minutes to boot up, if it comes back up at all!) and you MUST have an ethernet connection or buy the tivo $70 wireless card (needs internet for tv guide, firmware updates, etc). Dont know if the 320GB models suffer the same problem but on the 160GB there is a constant HDD churning noise which adding the 1TB expander drive takes away (as it writes to that instead it seems)…worth noting this guy is selling it for $130 which is an awesome price (I paid $249 when it first came out!).

      • I'm thinking Tivo is just a no-brainer easy to use PVR. I don't really subscribe to brands but I might check it out, I like the idea!

So true what you say about FTA TV being sufficient for your entertainment needs with more than enough content.
To be honest, Pay-TV(Foxtel) is expensive and overrated - too many advertisement breaks, crappy american programming and endless reruns of old shows.

    • Compared to Windows Media Center the interface is pretty awful… it's laggy and the menus are pretty oldschool.

However, compared to other standalone PVRs, it's easily the best one around. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone who just wants a PVR.

It'll take less power than a media center computer too, although you could do more with a computer (youtube, xvids, rmvb, surfing the net, facebook, etc).

      • Thanks for all the info

I am still not sure to get one or not as I have been reading the last few days around forums and various sites and it seems these things are not very reliable and support is pretty much non existent when things go wrong ie. box dies and having trouble with claiming warranties etc, with no phone number or any other way to contact them other then email.

Do you receive a FREE wireless adapter as advertised on their website?

    • I'm also wondering this…

    • Adeok,

      As above:

The offer is for $100 worth of Caspa credits.

You cannot claim any other offer with these units.

      Thanks.

      ODS.

  • I have an Ethernet cable but the internet isn't on 24/7. Does that matter? I've been looking at TiVO for a while but I don't know if it's any good without constant internet connection…

    • Hey nkbswe5, you do not need constant connection. As long as you can update the EPG every few days online, you'll be smashingly fine.
      Regards,
      nkbswe5.

      • Can you manually tell it to check for updates?

        • Not sure, my researching just said it updates when you have internet connection. So it could be either automatic once it finds the network or have to be told manually. I'm not sure, sorry. It's all very vague, everything just says 'You need internet connection'
