  • You mentioned an Australian compatible DASH charger as a separate purchase. Does it mean this OnePlus 5t comes with… HK charger? Or…? (I can't seen to find the spec of the charger in the ebay description, I might be blind)

I'm off OnePlus. They used to be great - fantastic hardware for the price, along with almost stock Android. But the software has been downhill recently.

They used to be very close to stock, with no ridiculous additions, however now they're filling up OxygenOS with their own apps that duplicate ones Google provide, crashing basic software, Bluetooth issues etc. Like the most recent addition of a stupid clipboard overlay which appears every time you copy something to the clipboard.

The update to Oreo on my OnePlus 3T (which I'm writing this off) has sucked. They half assed it - which is a real shame.

I just got my OP5t yesterday from a late December deal and I am pretty satisfied so far. I don't know which app from oxygen you are referring to but it's not so bad compared to my OP1 that just died.

I think you'd be happier with the new Nokia range that is very stock.

I would have to agree that OP is losing a bit of value as bang for bucks, only after receiving the phone I found topics filled with complaints about the camera… Maybe I should have taken the Huawei mate 10 pro…

I've had the OnePlus 5 for bout 6 months now. Amazing phone and couldn't be happier. Never had any software issues. Always kept up to date with latest versions and can see nothing but improvements. Definitely would recommend their phones.
Each to their own, especially when it sounds like you've had an unfortunately bad experience.. sorry to hear.

        • Never had any software issues.

          OK, that sounds likely.

        • @Diji1: not sure if you're being serious or snarky, but I don't mind - just thought I would chip in with my experiences. My SO has a 5, and she's had very few issues. Main one is that Waze doesn't seem to work super well for some reason. Other than that, the camera could be a bit better. That's about it, the rest of her experience with the phone has been flawless.

      • (Camera reviews) Thats xactly why I sold my 1+5t for 850$ back in dec :-)

        • What did you buy instead?

        • +1

@Bubbleshark: Galaxy s8 on the optus 59$ 20gb plan with 200 gc @harveynorman.. very happy with the design n camera

        • @habeeboy: are you sure you had the 5T and not the regular 5? From what I've read and seen from comparison reviews the 5t camera is massively improved over the 5 and should be comparable to the S8. I'm kinda worried since the camera is a major point for me and I just bought a 5T.

        • @Agret: it's not that bad, it blurs the imperfections and gives the impression of a too neat photo sometimes. I will try different camera app or/and the Google camera app and see how it goed

        • @Agret: It was definitely 5T (i own a 1+1, so i know a bit about oneplus phones)… per my online research (at that time) camera wasnt comparable to flagships.. i may be wrong. Nonetheless its a wonderful phone and hope it serves u well :-)

        • I just bought the Oneplus 5T and the camera is decent. Here are some pictures I took with the phone https://drive.google.com/open?id=1lpvYohBcV7m4TXcPdVW248vbNS….

        • @aakash159: Thanks for sharing. The daylight clicks do look good

        • @habeeboy:

Minimal difference between s7 and s8 camera. Could have bought s7 wait for s9

      • Nokia is definitely something I'm looking at, but I think my next phone will be the Google Pixel 2 XL when the price comes down a bit. I am willing to fork out a bit more this time for the software experience as well as the camera and battery life which have been reported to be excellent.

The Notes app which has been found in the most recent beta, as well as the Clipboard app which I described previously, are some of the software I am talking about. It looks like OnePlus have tried to copy Google Keep, right through to the layout, just without the cloud syncing function.

Don't get me wrong - the OnePlus 5T is an excellent phone. You should be quite content with your purchase, however I am personally over OnePlus because the direction they're taking, and the failure to listen to their community.

Currently, there is a major bug in their beta software (and lucky it's beta!) where alarms aren't going off because they're deep sleeping processes, including the Clock app!

The pixel 2 xl has had some major hardware issues I definitely think it's not worth the premium price.

Was considering getting the note 8 in this eBay sale but figured it's too expensive and I might get the S8+ since it's practically the same specs. Looked at some S8 reviews that compared it to the OnePlus and the OnePlus 5T has made big improvements to the camera compared to the original OnePlus 5 so I've ordered one of those from the sale instead.

The phone camera is very important to me and a major reason to my upgrade from the OnePlus One as I take heaps of photos every day on my phone.

From the few reviews I could find that compared the S8 to the 5T the photos look very similar. Fingers crossed that is the reality.

      • Out of curiosity, what do you consider dead? I was just wondering myself when I would completely consider a time for an upgrade. I usually think when the battery becomes unreliable and the hardware is just too old to keep up with even a vanilla aosp android ROM.

  • Google play works on this?

    • Yes, one advantage of OnePlus is that they leave their phones available to be flashed with custom ROMs and rooted without any issue.

I assume these phones already come with Google Play and Google apps preinstalled, but if it is the version that isn't, there are plenty of guides out there that take you step-by-step through the process to put the version of the OnePlus software that comes with Google Play, and from there, no issues with the phone.

      • Thanks for the conformation. Cheers.

      • wait, why would the phone not come with google play store? how would you download any apps?

        • The China models don't come with Google Play or Google Apps (come with HydrogenOS) due to the restrictions on Google in China. However those models are the same hardware and can be flashed with OxygenOS which has Google Play.

No wireless charging kills it for me

    • +1

That was a deal breaker for me at first too, but its battery life and their fast charging system is amazing. I plug it in for an hour or so every couple days and I'm good to go.

Ideally I'd like to get a magnetic connection thingy on the bottom, but I haven't found any yet that can take the 4 amps yet.

  • I was tossing up between this, S8+, Essential & Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.

    • +1

If budget isn't an issue, go for s8+, the others have pretty poor camera

      • Cheers, the camera is why I've held off.

      • Dupey dupe

  • Does afterpay have this phone or any site?

  • Getting an OG pixel XL is a better deal for the money

no way lol, those bezels and battery life

Camera and Battery are excellent though..
Software support is very important if you want to use a phone long term.
Bezeless is overrated, I need a place to hold watching videos

  • Gangsta phone ;p

    • lol

  • Is there nothing under 5 inch these days?

    • Welcome to iPhone SE, the most powerful 4‑inch phone ever. To create it, we started with a beloved design, then reinvented it from the inside out. The A9 is the same advanced chip used in iPhone 6s. The 12‑megapixel camera captures incredible photos and 4K videos

      • This is always the only phone that small these days, but coming from a z5 I am not sure if I want to stay with Sony. Considering a Nokia 8 but need to check the size

        • +1

My girlfriend has the Z1 Compact and it's been great for her.

Checkout this website you can compare how the sizes compare to your phone in actual size (you calibrate it by putting a credit card up to your screen)

This vs Mi Mix 2? I just bought my Mi Mix 2 and have just unlocked the bootloader (after 3 friggin days because of their security crap) but it seems just as good as this (minus headphone jack and that manual silence button I really like), in regard to specs and pricing (though the Mix is about $100 cheaper)

However, I've realised after purchasing this that there isnt a drastic amount of support for the device compared to the oneplus 5t. What other less obvious benefits would there be for this device?

I'm super happy with my Mi Mix 2 but I'm just asking for future reference.

    • Here you go - https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/11/24/oneplus-5t-vs-xiaomi-m…

Specs are very similar between the two phones (Same CPU and RAM) so you wouldn't really notice any difference day-to-day except for Oxygen OS vs MIUI.

OnePlus 5T will probably receive more updates over its life and the custom ROM development will be much more but if that doesn't interest you much the Mi Mix 2 is a great phone.

      • Yeah I was more wondering about the modding scene and you've confirmed my suspicions. Already aware that the specs are the same but thankyou very much.

      This is from Vaya…

  • no more red :c

  • So tempted
Anyone had experience with Vaya eBay warranty

  • Just got a shipment notification after purchasing on Saturday.

  • Phone arrived and is in perfect working order.

    • Same, loving it.

      • Trying to find a one+ dash c charger with Aus plug. Not having much luck.

        • You mean with a USB C plug on the wall brick? Does that exist?

        • Australian DASH chargers don't exist. What you want is a VOOC charger, which is OPPO's name for the same tech.

        • @f4te: Noted however I recall that Oneplus briefly sold direct in Aus less than 12 months ago with Dash C tech. Any wall chargers will be few and far between.

        • @PJAus: I believe those came with UK/HK chargers.

        • @f4te: I got OPPO. Thanks for the help. Again, great phone. Very happy.
