    Amaysim price much higher

    • But they give 40% discount. After discount it works cheaper for me compared to Origin.

      • -1

I got 32% off from origin 2 weeks back

        • I called them up, the most they would give me is 25%. I am in Sydney NSW.
The big Switch gives 28%, however the rates are higher and comparatively not as good.

I think for Sydney NSW, this might be the best deal at present.

        • Robin, it was higher base price but do not ignore the fact that the 40% discount is not only for usage cost but also supply charge. Look again on your Origin contract, they do NOT offer a decent discount if you want both supply charge and usage cost aggregated. Plus $250 cash offer is no brainer. I don't think anyone else in the market offers this amount to retail customers.

@Shmzhu: $250 is where this deal win over other deals.
Rate after discount is mostly similar. But $250 is by far better than anyone else.

        • @congngo:
i have Controlled Load 2. the price from Amaysim is
All Controlled 2 usage 29.40 cents per kWh
          Origin is 16.08cents per kWh
more than 50% my usuage are Controlled 2

        • @Shmzhu:
if you dont have control load, Amaysim is lower.
the price of control load from Amaysim is terrible high.

        • @Robin2012: Thanks. That makes sense. I just have peak & shoulder times. No controlled load. Controlled load is for hot water? Suprised that your CL2 is half of your usage?

        • @Robin2012: Arrrggg you're absolutely correct. Forgot the different tier rate meter on that point. Yes, if that's the meter type you're on, then most likely there're other options available for shopping around. However, if you're in NSW, maybe try this one: https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/offer-search

        • @congngo: Hi Congngo. A bit off-track question… How can I find out what meter configuration I have. eg.
Time of Use (interval),Two Rate,Single Rate or Dedicated Circuit.

is there a way we can check that?

          Thanks…

        • @Shmzhu: It will say on the bill.

yes, i did the calculations and even rang Energy Australia for a better discount than my current 25%. they gave me 30%. It was a tad bit cheaper but you get the $250 cash back as long as you have it for 12months so its a no brainer.

40% is for the liftime your hold your account with them

i signed up last year as my offer ended end of November

      • Didn't know it was supply as well. 30% in SA. Thanks.

      • Is the 40% discount by region? Or is there a special code/page for it? I'm only getting 20% ("pay on time") in QLD.

        • There are different plans. I think plan 2 is 40% while plan 3 is 30%. They have different base. Works out to be similar after discounts.

Red Energy just put their prices up heaps so I'm looking to switch, who is the cheapest in VIC now?

    • For Electricity - I just recently went to GloBird - They don't do Gas, yet.

      • We just change from Globird to Pacific Hydro, time of use worked out cheapest for use.

    • I went through all of this recently, waded through all of the offers including all of the confusing discounts and bill credits and I ended up with Pacific Hydro - prices GST exclusive are 17.6 cent useage and $0.95 supply charge. I'm in PowerCor supply zone.

The credits sound good up front but if your daily price ends up higher the credit can be eroded within a couple of months.

      • It said 17c for 2 years plan with pachydro, but no contract. How is it work if want to switch?

        • You can switch at any time as there are no exit fees

        • +1

the 2 years thing is the "benefit period". That just means that the benefits last for 2 years, mine says the use and service charges are fixed for that period. However, I reckon there's fine print that says they can rise the prices if they need to. There's no penalty for leaving early.

        • @herbo: thank you. I’ll swith to pachydro

        • @brongz: mine can only use single rate, which is 19c. Well still better than current provider I have. Just switched today. Thanks for those mentioning pacifichydro:)

    • I stay with globird for the last 2 years, just recently moved to amaysim, maybe after I used the first $125 credit, I will still go back to globird.

    • Same here, not happy with 15% or whatever the hike is.
Anything other than iselect to find a replacement? (they just spam call you after)
Would like to check gas also.

  • Crap deal for solar they give 18cent feed in tariff, but only give 18% discount compared to 35% for non solar wiping out the increased feed in tariff.

  • This is the cheapest for me as long as you pay on time in Syd.

  • How can I get this 250$ offer? - going to the link or getting a quote doesn't show the offer.

    • This offer is valid from 8 January 2018 until 11:59 pm AEST 31 January 2018 to customers
who switch to a new amaysim energy plan via
https://www.amaysim.com.au/energy or by calling up 1300 808 300 and mentioning
      this offer (Eligible Customers).

  • Do I have to switch both or just gas is ok for the energy credit?

    • +6

Just got first bill from them. Can get credit just for electricity. Just a warning that the credit is split in 2 parts in 12 month interval and credit applied before discount so actual credit is much less, especially if your discount is large (for 40% discount it will be around $75)
The way they apply discount also sneaky in that you'll have to pay full amount before due date and the discount will be applied to the next bill. So probably won't get discount for last bill.
Also their due date is only 1 week from bill issued date, quite short compared with most other companies so make sure you have good set up to avoid missing out on the discount.

      • Thank you! I was considering this offer, but now I'd rather pass

      • Sneaky buggers!

      • Same as their solar feed in tariff. It is applied before the discount, so the REAL FIT is at discounted rate. E.g., in SA, It's 33% off the electricity bill if you have solar. FIT is 20cent/kw. But in reality, It's only worth 20c x (1-0.33) = 13.4c.

      • So the $250 is credited half on 1st payment, and the other half on 4th payment, affected by discounts, right? Even if you move house or change suppliers after 12 months/4th payment?

        • Yeah, paid in half, twice. I think most companies now do monthly billing so it's 12 billing cycles not 4.

        • @lgacb08: Only AGL does monthly billing, it is stupid because most people get their meters read quarterly so how can they charge monthly?

        • @freemoneyhunter: i've lived in several place and switched retailers numerous time, all of them offer monthly billing for electricity as long as I can remember. Maybe in your case it's not a smart meter so monthly billing is rare?

        • @lgacb08: From what I understood, the meter reader reads the meter and about 1 week later the bill arrives with the time of the read and the current reading.

      • I thought the two part credit was pretty clear when I signed up on a similar deal recently. My first bill was a monthly instalment of $130 so I got the full $125 off that and just need to pay the remaining $5, which a direct debit arrangement will take care of so I shouldn't ever miss a discount.

  • there is a "Reconnection Fee" of $51.55, will I be charged the fee if I just switch, not move?

  • Can only get plan electricity 1 35% discount for postcode 2000.
    :-(

  • What are the restrictions between electricity 1-3?

  • +1

    Also,

Disconnection Fee - You will be charged Ausgrid's "standard" disconnection fee of $166.02 (GST inclusive), when you move out of your property. This fee is passed through from your electricity distributor and is not a amaysim Energy fee.

This seems really high, considering with Red Energy Disconnection fee Fixed rate - $11.60 Disconnection fee (GST incl) generally applies for any move-out request, also on Ausgrid.

  • Thanks guys just signed up. Only electrity as there gas prices are to expensive.

Anyone recommend a gas only provider in 3750 sp aus net
