The Vostro looks good for the price.
Bear in mind that the lower end consumer units often seem to have issues with build quality particularly around things like poor quality power sockets, hindges, poor ventilation and non replaceable parts (hard disk, battery etc is too deeply buried in the machine) resulting in the machine being scrapped after any single part fails. It is designed to look like the consumer was careless, but it is often a design flaw or compromise.
If you want a machine that lasts at a low price, you could look for a 2nd hand professional unit - Lenovo T series, Dell E series etc. For Uni - try a small 13 inch professional unit which is portable and rugged.
