3000kg Pin Type Car Stands $39.95 (60% off) at Supercheap Auto

460

Great deal, down from about $100. I have these stands and can't complain of any quality issues.

If you use their eBay store with the sitewide coupon PICK5 and Click & Collect, you can save a couple more bucks on top of this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222694065896

    prefer ratchet type

Just FYI and anyone reading, I believe pin type is safer (with a strong pin) than pure ratchet as the ratchet mechanism can fail, dropping to minimum height. (All else being equal in contruction and load capacity etc)

Now a combo ratchet and locking pin may be the holy grail…

      • Pin type is safer for your hands too. Too easy to get the skin trapped between teeth and lower part of the jack when handling.

      • Agreed. Screw stands are probably the best of the best - precise height adjust and no failure mode aside from threads breaking. They do have a slightly higher minimum height though.

    • Yeah agreed, http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/SCA-Car-Stands-Ratc… these would be better for me. I'd prefer the finer adjustment.

  • Just need a deal on a jack now.

      • Too small. Only suitable for corner jacking as an emergency jack replacement.

Use it to do oil changes on an old sedan. Does the job.

Picked up a heavy duty one from costco (45kg+) and the difference is night and day, but so is the price.

        • yeah theyre fairly shit. The cheap toolpro one is far better and about 20 bucks dearer when it is on special - don't pay current prices for it though. Ends up more than half price every 2-3 catalogues http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/ToolPRO-Low-Profile…

        • @ptenkae: absolutely does the job. If you aren't jacking up your car 5 times a day this is fine you don't need a 300 buck Jack for the 6 month intervals most of you will be using this for

I got these and they are really well made with thick steel and quality welds

Thanks OP. Bought a pair with 5% off ebay and 1% cashrewards

  • Is $39.99 the price for one or 2 stands?

    • +2

Pretty sure its a 2 pack.

  • Got the stands and jack

  • really scared to buy the cheap stands…might be good for temporary work but consider long run, it would be wise to purchase the good ones.

    • what's a good one? And how do you know it's any better than these?

      • +1

If the weld for the crossbars down the bottom let go then a leg can slide out and it falls down.
Top ones fold a single sheet of metal so its not relying on welds.

These are decent though. $100 of pin stands isn't cheap junk.

A lot of the money for premium go to the ratchet mechanism, which is weaker than the pin (can have both), but ratchet can save from finger injuries (never let hand/arm be between stand and car, or bits of stand including the shaft which will slide down and pinch if the car falls while adjusting pin) and much easier to align in the perfect position.

If you're really that worried, leave the jack under the car in contact but not bearing any load. If you're still worried, leave a wheel under there too.

However I'm not too worried as they meet AUD safety standards and each stand is rated at 2x the average car weight but will only bear 1/4 the weight.
