Very new to ozbargain, what would you like me to change/add?
Just wanted to spread the good word :)

    • -3

Get rid of everything in the title besides the item name and price, maybe put RRP in there as well so people can see the savings at a glance. Basic info about the laptop in the description, just copy paste the specs.

    • +42

Come on guys don't neg the guy for one of his first posts. You're the kind of people that ruin this website. Have a +1 OP.

      • +1

        :)

        • Sorry but he didn't say "first post/new to OzBargain, so please be kind".

        Spot on.

I don't get why any one would want a Chinese Version laptop? Would the keys be in Chinese? Chinese windows?

    • +3

Chinese windows. Although there are plenty of guides online on how to change it to English.

      • +1

You could just do a refresh and change the language to English, right?

        • I just reinstalled Windows via USB as soon as I received my laptop. It installed as a legit version of Win10 Home.

I have the 13.3" version but I'm sure it's much the same with this laptop.

        • +1

It's single language Windows 10. You can or it in English, but it's not perfect. The licence can be transferred to a new install of Windows 10 though.

If you don't have a USB stick (4gb min), don't buy this.
If you don't have a 4gb+ USB stick, either but one for $2, or kill you

      • It's overly complicated because it's single language Windows.

Best to just reinstall English Windows after looking the finest certain to your email account. Then transfer the licence.

  • This is a good price however the seller's rating does not look as good as OP described…

    • I read the sentence that way initially too. But I think OP is referring to good feedback and reviews for the laptop?

Don't get the hype around these, similar specs to the $800 Lenovo's

    • -8

      It's Xiaomi !!!!!

People are upvoting not on price or specs, but on name. Apparently, xiaomi is the new cool.

    • +11

Please post deal for the $800 lenovo with same weight and specs.

      Thanks

      • -1

More referring to the i7 model,

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/355036 $1250 instead of $1400.

        2.1KG compared to 1.9KG, though is a RX 550 instead of MX150.

        • +12

So a different laptop with different specs with a different price point would you say?

On a serious note, this is a good deal for those who missed out the deal from Amazon US couple months ago.

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad:

Wasn't aware 8250U was 4-core, assumed similar to 7500U. Still as I mentioned the I7 models of this laptop aren't at all competitive.

This isn't as bad considering it's actually 4 cores.

        • +1

@dyl: That is due to the $1300+ price point. If you check the post linked, Lenovo's i5 version starts at $900+. Considering the Lenovo E580 is a basic laptop which is bulky and plastic, this Xiaomi is a fantastic deal.

I recall a similar laptop a couple months ago from Amazon US got 100+ votes here. That tells you how good it was.

        • -2

          @MadMaxBargainRoad:

Lenovo i5 was similar price, someone linked below

        • +2

@dyl: As I said, different segment of machines. Xiaomi's offer is more comparable to the premium metal chassis models despite being cheaper than an entry offer. How you would weight that against local warranty, brand history etc is a different story.

      • -1

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/354991

Pretty similar, slightly smaller screen, but touchscreen, local warranty.

    • Similar price to the base level lenovo this would fall somewhere between that and the lenovo carbon in terms of build quality and aesthetics. Once you have a fast enough CPU (any 8th gen i5) and good enough screen (1080p+) build is the most important factor.

    • oh the irony

      Calm down gramps

    • +2

you probably missed the original posting, hence rOxz comment.. but this was listed a 'RE: Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro Finally under $1000AUD!'. It has since been edited.

    • +1

      You're drunk too!

  • +2

Note that this laptop comes in Chinese and can not easily be changed to English just through the settings. However, it is possible and you don't need to buy a new license key as the laptop already has a multi-lang version active. Several tutorials online exist on how to do this.

  • Thanks! I've been looking for this. Just purchased.

  • i got the finger print version (non pro me thinks?)

anyway, fairly simple to make it english.

turn it of, go thru the windows setup. mind you its in chinese (google next and yes in google translate)
once in windows, connect to wifi and search for "reset pc" in the start menu and choose reset this pc.

all in all should take 20 mins depending on your net speeds.

    • Is there any Chinese keys on the keyboard?

      • The pictures doesn't have any Chinese keys so it probably doesn't. Can always get your money back through ebay dispute or paypal if the item you received does not match the picture they showed.

      • Just English mate

      • refer to wiki:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinyin
we have a romanization input system. So our keyboard is just English.

        • Except function keys could still be in Chinese. I have seen / used many before.

However, in this case as tomochi pointed out you can get a refund if the product doesn't match its image.

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad:

That's the traditional Chinese keyboard. In Mainland China, Simplified Chinese keyboard is exact same as US keyboard.

      • Not a single Chinese character, or non standard icon. Only thing that bothered me about the keyboard was that the right 'menu' key is shared with the right control key, so to bring up a menu you need to press FN-rCTRL.

Once the Chinese Windows is removed, there isn't a single thing (including sticker text) that would indicate it as a Chinese laptop

  • out of stock :( spending a lot of time reading around

    • Seems to be back in stock?

  • i5 out of stock, good price for the i7s if you're in to that.

Very good price though - almost seems too good to be true (almost $200 cheaper than the best price we've seen to date)

  • +1

    Awesome post op!

  • +1

I'm going to wait for it's next version with touch screen

    • hmm I wonder if they would, it would be nice to have touch screen even though i don't use it too often. I reckon if the chinese market had a large number of people wanting touch screen then they would put it in the next model

      • I'm betting I'm less likely to use it often but I can see it being useful in some scenarios, even more so when travelling.

        But I hope so

        • I have a touchscreen laptop. It actually is quite useful for scrolling and resizing. If you're into artwork, it actually works quite well with painting apps.

  • Just to let everyone know, the seller does have more stock for the i5 models, have a look at their other listings.

  • Hmm… I got the 13 inch finger print edition a short while back for notably more than this. While it is excellent in every way, I really think the 15 inch screen might have been my preference (coming from an 18 inch screen previously)

Great deal OP, well done on a successful first post.

Please note I'm using a phone with swipey motions, so lots of mistakes may be present. I'm also drunk, but I doubt that changes anything

  • That's a good price. I picked up the Xiaomi Notebook Pro with i7-8550u & 8GB ram for about 1.1k from China 3 weeks ago. First thing I did was reinstall English Windows on it. Then I installed Arch Linux on an encrypted partition without facing any particular issues.

Build quality seems pretty good so far. Unfortunately, the touchpad still isn't as good as Macbooks but it's still pretty good for a Windows laptop. Apart from the touchpad's tracking, The fingerprint reader on the top right will mean you need to apply a lot more force to click the trackpad as your finger moves to the top right.

  • Looks like there is more back in stock, just bought the i5 version, there's now 4 left. Thanks OP! Also used cashrewards 1% ebay.

  • Been waiting for these to drop under $1000 for ages. Bought the 3rd last i5 one, thanks OP!

  • Anyone wants to buy together and save extra $20? Because buying 2 units can get 2.5% off.

    • 2.5% off the third one, pricing error anyway

      • The price was too good to be true.

  • Gutted I missed this.

  • Has anyone got it shipped yet? I got a reply like this when enquiring the shipping date:

    "Nice day~

    Thanks for your kindly email.

I'm so sorry to tell you that the item which you paid in our store has been sold out yesterday. We didn't realized the problem until we come back to office today. Really sorry for such thing happen and brings you troubles, please accept my sincerely apology and kindly forgive me.

We have no idea about the delivery date, we kindly advise that you cancel the order to get full refund?

We will arrange the action immediately upon get your reply.

    Many thanks,
    Star.
    Bellaego service Team."

I think they are tring to revise their mistake by asking us to cancel our orders.

    • I got the same message too :(

    • got the same message, looks like it was pricing error (or they needed >$20K for a few days) and it is strange to me why they kept adding more stock during 2 days selling 23 of them in total before marking out of stock for all models

      • i guess we all just cancel the orders now? I was really keen too

        • I got my refund message already. And they made it look like it was me who wanted to cancel the order and they are good genuine seller

  • got the refund today

  • +2

    Mine just got delivered today,
Fastest shipping from China I've ever had!

    • You must be lucky.

      • damn i know right, waiting for them to get back to me

  • Mine was delivered about a week ago :)

  • Got mine today!!! love love love! :D

  • Update on the laptop,
    It's fantastic :)
    Fresh install was easy
Battery life is awesome, can easily get 8 hours plus
Speakers are honestly the best I have heard on a laptop
    So far so good!
