Apparently these have the cracking issue as well. Source.

Peesonally, I'd get the QC35 instead, as while the audio quality might not be as good, they're comfortable as (profanity) and the headband doesn't crack.

yeah, its funny this guy has gotten so much mileage out of his post. Quite a disgruntled customer. If you search the issue this is really the only post that comes up.

I've had these for a few months, use them every day at work. No problems so far. I believe sony owned the issue with the originals and said they would replace if faulty, so i assume if something happens, they will do the same here. But for me, no problems with the build quality.

What does suck is you cant have multiple bluetooth devices at the same time. So i have to manually disconnect my laptop at the end of the day to connect to my phone. Otherwise i have to go through a mildly annoying song and dance about turning off bluetooth off and on to get them reconnected. Wasnt enough to make me return them, but i know the Bose have no problem with this. I do find the NC is slightly (very slightly) better in my opinion on the Sonys. Also very possible i had purchase bias when testing :P

Good reviews, good headset. Can't go wrong either way imo.

      • Found someone else with the same issue but as you've pointed out, it doesn't appear to be a widespread issue.

It appears that the problem on the old model was caused by both material used and the design, and they've fixed the material but not changed the design, so it's possible that the issue will reappear but just take more time to occur, but this doesn't seem too likely.
Hopefully they address the design problem in a future revision, while there doesn't appear to be a problem anymore, I'm still personally going to stick to Bose until they address the design flaw, but that's more personal choice than logical thinking.

    Source

Yeah, that’s one source which really is just a faulty product. I personally have owned these since early December and have had no issues with the build quality (headband cracking). There may be one or two more cases online somewhere of this but the vast majority don’t have any issues. The last model was where the cracking problem was very apparent.

The QC35 are probably more comfortable (I have heard) and if that is a selling point for you then no problems, but if it is the cracking issue that is turning you away then maybe you should reconsider that.

Edit: Didn’t hit the reply button

  • QC35 is more comfortable,but more expensive….

    • with inferior sound quality but better noise cancellation ..

    • I think the comfort factor depends on the wearer. One of my work colleagues with the QC35 II's tried on my Sony pair and found them more comfortable (less 'pressure' when the noise cancellation is on was his explanation), and he said the noise cancellation seemed about the same from some trials in the office.

I guess it will depend on the person. I'm really happy with the Sonys for the price.

      My gripes are:
      1) The play/pause control is a bit tough to get right… and the beep isn't timed well to help.
      2) Whilst recharging, you can't really use them. I'd really prefer if I could hook up a long micro USB to a power bank and just have them work. I haven't actually tried this, but the manual says that it won't work.

      • Yes,you are right. When you use QC35 ANC without music, your ear will feel a little uncomfortable. But for 1000xm2, it is OK, but for 1000xm2, if you use it in a very very silent environment with no music, you will hear a very small electrical noise, which normally will not happen( if it's silent, and you do not want music, why wearing it?)
generally, the best advantage of QC35 is it is very light, when you ear it, just like a feather on your ear.
For other parts, I think 1000xm2 is better

  • Sound quality vs QC35 II ?

    • Google search… there's plenty of articles comparing the 2.
OR, pop by your local JB and demo them to see which tickles your fancy.

    • Personally, these and the hear.on 2 sound much better. Found the QC35 II way too flat.

  • Do any of these noise cancelling headphones block out the sound of a baby/child crying. Was recently on a red eye flight and the child cried ever 15 mins for the whole 8 hours. No review seems to test that. Or if anything, by blocking out the sound of the plane engines, would the crying actually be amplified??

Otherwise I'll just get a decent pair of ear plugs for the next flight

Not really. ANC generally blocks out constant noises like engines. This is why they're great for flights.
To block out variable noise like crying children and screaming lunatics, you would be better off with noise isolating in-ear headphones like the Sure SE535.

Bose and Sony ANC headphones do not cancel out sudden and sharp noises. The volume of the cries are probably softer due to the physical barrier of the ear cups but you will still heard them.

    • Block out? No. But it will make it softer. It will make everything softer, but nothing is blocked out entirely.

    • They do better than earplugs in my opinion. I wear earplugs quite often for work, and I feel these are more effective for general (low amplitude) sounds.

Although I would not consider them as a safety replacement for ear plugs when it comes to high intensity sound pressure (such as on an actual work site).

get the Bunnings bluetooth earmuffs for that, they're like 27db block

    • best solution i found was to have kids. Then you stop caring and empathise with the parent ;)

      • I do. Never had an issue with mine travelling. This parent on the plane was more concerned with trying to get sleep herself than deal with the kid. I would not travel with mine on a red eye flight if I knew mine would cry all night on a red eye flight. I would be in full support of red eye flights that do not allow kids under a certain age on them, as politically incorrect as that sounds. Just my bad luck I guess, that every red eye flight I have taken in the last 10 years has had crying kids all night, which is why it is becoming a real gripe for me now. One flight, my friend and I actually ended up consoling the kid and entertaining her until she fell asleep! The mother was at her wits end.

Bose all the way. Highly recommend the QC35 II

    • better than these?

      • Go to a local jb and test them both out for a while. I've got the Sony's. From my perspective Bose is slightly more comfortable but not as good audio quality and slightly worse nc and the touch controls on the Sony are amazing.

You really need to go to a jb and try them for yourself though…

        • thx , will give it a go
