I've had a look at them in store before, they are very flimsy and aren't good for storing anything heavy. The black plastic is very thin and it feels like they're going to break if they're stacked. I'd recommend going for the transparent variant which is $3 more but much more sturdy. Or even better, bunnings have some at $4.95 at the moment which look relatively promising for long term use.

    • we have the bunnings ones. they are good but not great, more sturdy then the office-works one. using them for book storage, office storage ect. pretty stong. the bunnings ones are only 25 LT at that price i think.

thats what we paid a couple weeks ago

At the end of the day, I think it's worth paying a little more for a better product that will last years rather than going through storage boxes every few months. Bunnings one I believe should last a while, as you said, they are good but not great. At $5, it seems to be better value than the OW one in my opinion.

        • What sort of abuse are you putting your storage boxes through that's resulting in having to purchase new ones that often?

        • @Lorindor: the Bunnings ones break all the time. I bought 10 and a couple were broken before I got home

        • +1

I think it's worth paying a little more for a better product

          Like what?

      • I recently broke the lid of a Bunnings one with my girly fingers when I was determining how flimsy it was. Conclusion: it's flimsy. Wafer thin. All the cheap ones are crap. The lid is the factor that make these fail. I bought Officeworks non-cheap ones too once, and they were crap as well. Every lid broke in on itself while I was overseas for six months. Finding decent stackable containers is a real challenge unless you want to spend big bucks.

    • What about the quality of the Reject shop one? - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/355032

      • I haven't seen the reject shop one but just eyeing it, the material looks similar to the OW one posted in this deal.

        • +2

I own both, I started with the Keji, but the Reject shop one is sturdier and has wheels. I think the reject shop are better.

I've gone through cheap containers and it's a false economy because they always shatter and become brittle.

I think for the price the bunker range of storage boxes from Bunnings are really good with reinforced bottoms, robust carry handles and locking clips and they stack really well. My collection of these is growing as I know they'll last a lifetime.

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/search/products?q=bunker%20stora…

        • Are these bunker storage things only sold at Bunnings? Also how airtight are they? (I assume they aren't but is there much of a gap around the edges? Good enough to store fabric etc?)

    • Seems that all reviews of the clear ones are terrible, yet people are highly rating the black ones?

I’m happy with the $5 ones, thanks. :)

Great 52L Container BUT the wheels are much to small to be effective when the container is fully loaded. Checked out other containers in the range and they too look to have the same size wheels all be it in different colours.
Still, I bought 10 for the money they are a good purchase.

the wheels under container are too small, they would not roll at all on heavy duty carpet in the office.

Nothing to suggest that the clear ones are terrible, only that the wheels are too small.

I've bought a bunch of the Kenji clear ones for moving house, no complaints and I've stacked a couple. Obviously it'd struggle if its 30kg+ but I don't have anything that heavy to put into it

        • @backslashio:

I have 12x of the clear Keji 52L containers and can confirm they are great for the price. The wheels are tiny and completely useless except for shifting the container for small distances on a table/desk, but I don't mind that. The lid flexes a bit when you stack full containers on top of each other, but they seem to hold. The two latches on either side of the lid don't lock as positively as I'd like, but they do the job. If storing something heavy in these such as books, I'd suggest putting them in the bottom-most container when stacking.

I still rate the Woolworths Essentials 55L storage containers as the best I've tried: very sturdy, has good latches and they actually have usable wheels, but they cost a lot more at $16 each and they haven't been on sale for a while AFAIK.

@44sunsets: Yeah I've bought the clear Kenji 52L, 32L & 15L, love the 15Ls except I'd need a million of them! I like having all the same brand/style so I can stack them up after I finish moving instead of keeping a whole bunch of cardboard somewhere

        • @44sunsets: The Woolworths ones are the same mould as what they used to sell at Target before they went all space age. Can confirm these are definitely more robust. But they are $16 a pop which is too much, let's face it.

    • +1

Exactly, I was about write the same thing. Just dont buy it for anything heavy, the handles break first !!

    • The Bunnings link seems broken.

    • +1

Thanks for the link. Yes cheaper if you purchase 6 or more, or stack with other purchases (as the minimum spend for PICK5 5% off eBay code is $30).

I'll add that in OP as I'm sure it would apply to some.

    Save 98 cents. Groundbreaking.

    • Its a lot of money to some people here. They'd rather nickel and dime their way through life than get a better job.

      • +2

Can't it be both? Why not get a better-paid job AND take the savings from buying the cheaper deal?

I agree that the savings on this particular item are very minimal, but still - a dollar saved is a dollar earned. Despite what you may think, many members here are not destitute and living on the street….they just like to find the best price for an item and don't like paying any more than necessary for it.

      • +1

You'd be surprised what jobs people here have.

        • Do tell. I thought we are all poor bastards.

        • +3

@D6C1: some even work as graduates for Westpac!

    • +3

Over 15% saving is significant especially if you’re in the market for a number of them

  • +2

Went into store after the last deal for these - pretty much made from glad wrap! Paid a bit more for something that feels like it will last

  • +1

I have several of these and don't have any complaints so far. Good for storing stuff away when you don't have to frequently access or move it. Quality seems ok especially for the price.

  • +1

Have them for a year are great storing something light like children clothing, quilts etc. not anything too heavy.

    • +5

I thought you said "great storing something like light children"

      • +1

Im sure that would work too. Just cut a few holes for ventilation and store in a cool place away from the sun.

  • +1

I have been using the Starmaid storage containers over the years. Probably have about 30 of them. They are 40 % off at Big W at the moment (about $10 each for 52L). Went into Big W to pick some up today but all of the ones on the shelf had cracked and broken corners. Disappointing. Could these ones have changed recently? Not sure now if I should try and get some from another store that are not broken. Anyone been using these?

  • +1

Free delivery for orders over $55 from the non-eBay store is for metro locations only. Us regional and rural lot still have to pay for delivery.

  • We moved recently, bought like 50 of these and about half were broken when they arrived at our new house

  • i think these are good for storing kids toys, soft toys or christmas decorations..

can't store books unless you don't plan to move the box at all after you 'loaded' it. I use ikea storage boxes for my heavier stuff, they are quite hardy but expensive.

  • +2

I have bought many different brands but the best brand is Really Useful Box, weird name but REALLY GOOD. Bought 5 sets of them (each set contains 5 or 6 different sizes) when Masters closed down, like 70-80% off, they were really cheap. Officeworks sell them but surprisingly expensive, I think they are the most expensive boxes.

Love the Sistema containers. Regularly half price at Woolworths. But a lot of people would find them still too pricey, but they're worth it imo.

good deal op, but i just use those free cardboard boxes with covers that i find behind chemist warehouse. They are pretty much brand new, have side holes for handles and stacked up nicely. Also the occasional nice big styrofoam box if i need something that can block out light and keep airtight. ;P
