Will it fit a $9 Printer?

    • Which deal was that from?

      • +7

Some Ozbargainers never forget a great bargain😉

        Most likely this popular deal…
        Posted 5 years 4 months 27 days ago Dell V313 All-in-One Printer - Only $9 delivered.

        Many received the wireless version👍
Still use my $9 Dell 525w printer as a scanner.

        • +5

Yep, I got the 525w for $9. Only set it up a couple of months ago when the laser needed new cartridges.

        • @Coops1:
          Wow!
          Does it still print?
Did you need new inkjet cartridges?

I still haven't unpacked my other one!

        • +2

          @Infidel:

Works perfectly out of the box :). Cartridges were fine

        • +4

          @Coops1:
Thanks. There's hope for my 3😀
(bought spare printers just for the ink)

Printers arrived at a time I no longer really needed printing. With smart phones I could display on the screen.

Printers now are part of my Shrine to the gods of bargains. When it comes to deals, I'm very religious😉

Still have 1 in the unopened box it came in😀

    How much is it normally?

    • Bunnings sell a similar 50L tub for $7.98.

      • The Reject Shop has it for $7

        • -2

          A saving of $1… Wow.

        • +3

@Orpheus: This is OzBargain not OzWaste a $1

        • -2

@strawberrybug: So anything that is discounted by $1 is a bargain? This is OzBargain, not OzSaveADollar

        • @Orpheus: Of course it is to some people, clearly not to you. especially if purchasing in bulk

      • Bunnings one is absolutely rubbish at that price.

A few comments on quality from their previous deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/260059

    • +3

eg Wow these are bad. I've just put 5 together, and already I have three broken handles. They also don't stack that great. Pretty disappointed, even if it was only $5.50.

      Withdrew my upvote😢

      • +1

Thank you for the heads up, was just about to rush out and get these as I wanted to stack in garage… back to Kmart I go

        • That's a comment from last deal. Read other comments - they may be more positive. Forgot why I didn't buy before.

  • +6

I remember buying the 30l ones, quality is so-so.

I remember reject shop has 50L ones with wheels that I bought for $5, so much better quality.

I remember commenting how funny Ozbargain is, if it’s office works it gets 100+ votes if it’s reject shop it doesn’t get a rate.

Thought people would like to know, that I was at my local officeworks and saw these, and tried to pull out the handle clip but instead the plastic holding the handle snapped off.

It was so brittle, makes me think the whole container is brittle.

My dream is for Woolworths to start stocking the Sistema 60L containers again for the regular 50% off ($11). They were quality, and a good large size, stackable too. Nothing else has compared since!

    • +1

These ones from bunnings are quite good, really solid and stack well. Just wait till they are on sale next! https://www.bunnings.com.au/montgomery-60l-black-heavy-duty-…

      • at $10 they are still the best you can find in my oppinion

      • Do they often go on sale?

      • I have a 100L one of this type and have kept it outside for over 8-9 months filled with water(dont ask why). It has bent slightly due to water load, but other than that is not faded or showing any sign of deterioration. This thing will last for ever. 100L one costs $16.44 at Bunnings.
At $10 for 60L its better buy than any of the other storage containers.

  • Good for planting your own green..!!!

  • If you put a bit of weight in them and then try to lift them the handle/latch breaks.
It's awkward trying to lift them without touching the handle.

  • +1

Just bought 10 of these. The quality is ok for the price. The flaps that hold the lid down can fall off if yanked hard however can clip right back on. I am doing a slow house move and have bought few from different shops and these are no better than those in big W or Kmart where they sell for 8 bucks.

If you want quality then Kmart has the heavy duty boxes near the garden section for 10 bucks which look like they could last forever.

  • Any one think those Starmaid ones at BigW are any good?

Why do we have so many empty vessels for sale?

Are we trying to fill the void?

Why are we are packaging stuff we don't need into a vessel we do not need?

It's so cheap that it does not effect our bottom dollar.

The result: this vessel will cease to perform its function in the next 4-5 years and will be binned, we will feel happy while purchasing our 'solution' to our storage problem.

Solution to the above problem: Buy another vessel to keep these artifacts. And the cycle continues.

Why don't we have quality products that will last several life times and stop the need to buy more new products? Given the lifespan of some of these plastics we are essentially pouring plastic into the earth with usage of only a few years between manufacture date and the end of life of the product.

Curious question for the hippy inside me: How many of you actually consider this when purchasing these bargains?

    • +4

I see you are new here, Grasshopper😃
      Welcome.

Asking those philosophical questions on a site dedicated to endless consumption may be misplaced, if not heretical. (Maybe a Forum topic.)

As a lapsed Hippie, lapsed political demonstrator, lapsed trainee monk in the Hindu tradition, University trained in scientific research & psychology - I think a bit of self-analysis & self-knowledge is valuable. That is awareness.

I've taken people such as a Minister of Government & other successful people through this journey of discovery & awareness - finding who they really are. They became more successful & have better relationships after clearing their inner (& outer) clutter.

An understanding of why we accumulate & why we get joy from purchases & possessions is illuminating.

      I play with the decisions

But at the end of the day, as Ozbargainers most will want our cheap shiny pens & 30c baubles, boxes to store them in unused, latest expensive fast tech, and generally shallow unfulfilling experiences.
      The question is why?😉

[Most don't want to know why, preferring to bury themselves back in the above endless cycle hoping it will lead to happiness (or oblivion).]

On OzBargain there is an underlying mantra - don't think / question - just buy (even if you don't know what it is or if you will ever use it)

Thank you for your question / observations.
Are you sure you joined the right site for you?😁

      • lol, I have lurked around a bit before joining.

The odd bargain isn't bad. It's that our baby boomer generation have instilled the values of cheaper = better no matter what the cost.

Generally speaking we aren't as poor as we once were and yet we value the bargain as a big factor in our buying decision. The stuff is so cheap that we don't care if the product fails in it's designed as such so we can just buy another version and not be impacted financially.

If we were to purchase these better constructed materials, it costs 3x/4x times more but lasts longer than it would be a a 'bargain' in the grand scheme of things.

The cost appears to cheaper but in the be great in the grand scheme it is costing us with more waste for future generations.

The marketing machine is obviously at play, but I thought it was more transparent to the public.

It is not as if quality & longevity are not valued. Even on OzBargain. But they may be valued selectively.

Tools often come up as "buy the best you can" & it will last & provide satisfaction & good return on investment. Standard tools are unlikely to go out of style or become redundant with changing technology. But if you often lose tools, cheap ones may be a good idea (or learn to look after them).

Quality of ephemeral objects generally don't rate highly. They will be landfill very soon, no matter what the quality of construction. A rare person challenges the desire to buy, but are usually ignored. But quality & longevity of these boxes are discussed - in relation to other cheap plastic boxes😉

Your question of should we buy these storage boxes, or better built storage at a higher price, or whether we have a want for storing at all is worthwhile.
There are rational ways to consider that question. But it ignores the reason why some people are here consuming in the first place. That is usually an emotional one. (Although many do buy cheap only because that is all they can afford at this point in time!)

A consequence of buying only on cheapest price is other options disappear from the market over time. Then there is little choice.

The luxury of reasoned choice may only be available to those with enough resources (time, money, education, cognitive capacity, experiences including upbringing, etc) to help them make such choices.

Most follow the same old habits without reflecting on why, because thinking & seeing other possibilities is challenging. Change takes conscious effort. Consequently, we are generally creatures of habit🐈

Just some thoughts from a tired mind.
And this is referred to as off-topic😁

    • Excerpt from a book written by an anonymous historian and/or archaeologist in the 1930s:

"Fifth … . Industrial and Financial:
to bring about “unemployment” and want, to lower ideals of craftsmanship and abolish pride in handicraft, to encourage greed for “profit,” and the standardization of the cheap and shoddy; to bring about “Centralization,” and the formation of Trusts and Cartels; to abolish private ownership and to establish “State monopolies,” “Reserve Banks,” and a “World Bank,” … . with the control of gold in the hands of the International Directors."

    • For someone enquiring about all these empty vessels, you've been very quiet after those 2 comments🔇

Your comments made me think & reconsider my clutter💭
But it's handy having a few empty vessels (at least temporarily) to categorise & sort my clutter into😁

  • Just don't bang things down on top of them or put heavy things on top of them.

I have 10 with books stored in them and a couple have cracked lids. Other than that they are okay but not thick plastic construction.

  • The problem is that I really like homogeneity, with storage containers being no exception. By accumulating a few containers here and there, after a few years you have a bunch of different sized, different coloured boxes, some with wheels and latches, some without. If only every product was given an easily identifiable name or number, like electronics, such that you could then find them on Gumtree or other sites later on to add to the uniform 'collection'.

    • Like Eneloops standard. :)

  • +1

I bought a bunch of these last year, most of them are now broken. I use them for moving and I have kids.
The sistema home and very useful boxes (got a bunch when masters was selling everything cheap before receivership) are the best value I've found.

  • The handles on these crack really easily

  • I remember getting them when they were $2.50 but I think it was the 25L. Great value

  • I have lots of A4 sized paperwork in manila folders and cardboard wallets that I want to archive. I presume this run would be too large for that.

What's a good choice for archiving lots of paperwork?

    • Filing cabinets. They're designed for the job. Last for decades. I've picked up many good ones thrown out for council pickup.

      • We have a few filing cabinets, but they're full too! Was thinking of storing archived docs under the house, so plastic tubs would be good.

  • Bought four of these today without doing prior research, feeling foolish already. The reported lack of quality might explain why they had a lot in stock.

  • I've not had any issues with these recently. I used them for moving heavy stuff and they survived.

Just some info for people looking at purchasing. They are quite good imo.

  • I think a quality control test in store, is whats needed here. Office works stores are fairly large, so perhaps we can line a few up, run and dive onto them, the ones that survive the quality control testing are keepers =)

  • Thinking of buying a few of these for intermittent clothes washing.

Especially since my washing machine just broke down but even then it's always good to have a back up or some for those stubborn stains with washing.

    Any thoughts?

Does the container have any holes or will it crumble under an immense weight or volume of water and clothing.

Otherwise I saw a few smaller sized ones made out of more durable plastic but just a big bag no container at big w for like $5.

  • Wow wayy better than Amazon. Their 15L one is $221. :o
