Almond milk or water with a pinch of almond meal?

    • +3

It's definitely milk sir, they hand milk the almonds themselves!

      • Show me a tit on an almond and I'll believe you

milk comes from mamals ….. this is almond extract …….

      • nut juice

Nah they recently discovered almond nipples. And as we all know, you can pretty much milk anything with nipples.

make your own. Choice magazine reviewed all the almond milks and most of them are only 5 percent….

    • Its true, I found it the hard way too.

5% of almond and the rest water and etc, its too cheap to be true since almonds are so expensive.

Need to experiment more on my nutribullet with almonds from costco….

      • +1

You will need muslin, and once you the nuts are in the sack you squeeze it to extract the milk.

        • +1

oh….its ok too troublesome I will just drink A2 milk and eat the almonds separately. lol

Google "soy milk maker" for devices that may make your life easier.

Don't drink cow's milk - it involves the repeated impregnation of cows, killing of their children and a life of repeated molestation only ended with a bullet in their head.

@thevofa: While we're at it don't eat any grain based foods unless they've been hand harvested. The massacre of insects and small rodents every year by combine harvesters is insane!

      Most people don't want 20%.

Its meant to be a nice almond drink, not an overpowered almond smack in the face.

Also higher almond percentage means its a much heavier drink.

      • +1

        Most people don't want 20%.

Yeah at 20%, it's incredibly nutty. Doesn't go well with cereals. I use a 10% milk blended with my protein shakes and it's absolutely fantastic

        • +1

I often drink it on its own, in recipes or with low sugar chocolate powder etc.

I wouldn't want more then 5% in that stuff, but I'm sure there is plenty that 10-20% suit.

      • Yeah I agree. If you want 100% almond then you might as well get the almond itself.

I've tried making my own nut milk but I always make a mess.

that happens when you don't use the appropriate receptacle.

  • How about coconut milk? How much % of coconut?

    • +1

It only contains 10% coconut cream, though fwiw I can drink it straight just fine, if you have a sweet tooth though I'd stay away.

    • varies greatly between brands, need to read the cans if used for cooking so less water and more coconut …. you can get extra water from the tap if needed.

  • When will be ever get a Bonsoy deal again?

EDIT: Actually is is $3.80 at Coles right now! That should be a deal in itself!

    • +1

But I thought that being made in Japan, and containging kombu seaweed, any post Fukushima batches may have questionable overall health benefit due to radioactive fallout when compared to another brand.
I know stores that stopped selling this line for this reason.

    • EDIT: Actually is is $3.80 at Coles right now! That should be a deal in itself!

If anyone uses a Nespresso frother with Almond Milk (I have the Breville Creatista Plus). So far I have found that Almond Breeze unsweetened is by FAR the best for frothing. I tried VitaSoy and that failed miserably.

    Anyone else with recommendations?

    • I don't fully understand the Nespresso frother but a regular steam frother on my coffee machine froths Soy Milky superbly (you can buy at Aldi but I think it's in Woolies?)

      • Yeah, I don't think Soy Milk has the same struggles as Almond Milk. But I could be wrong.

    • Try milklab. I have also tried all the ones you mentioned. I agree almond breeze is the best almond to froth and milklab for soy
My choice of lactose free milk is Paul’s zymil

      • -1

Has canola oil and other nasties.

      • +1

I have found soy milky regular and lite to be the best for coffee machine use. I'm not sure how it compares to bonsoy but I used it with a Barista cafe machine (in an office space) and it froths fairly well for the price. The taste is the biggest factor with this one - it doesn't have that bad nutty soy flavour that the coles soy does for example.

        • IMO Soy Milky is the closest in taste to Bonsoy.

    • +1

The two plant-based milks I have found to be the best in my Nespresso are Blue Diamond Almond Breeze unsweetened (vanilla) and Bonsoy.

    • How does the taste of this compare to Almond Breeze?

    • Try (n)espresso shot on ice topped up with unfrothed almond milk. Quite delicious. My favourite is the so good almond milk that is in the fridge at the supermarket

    • dont use almond breeze.. its contains carrageenan. it causes alot of health problems and cancer.

      • Evidence? I had a brief look and found a lot of garbage. Also that it somehow inhibits HPV… curious.

  • +3

I bought 5 of this brand before when it sold for 50% off. Didn't like the taste and it doesn't mix up well with hot beverages.

    • You will find it separates unless you heat the milk first and then add to your hot beverage.

  • +2

I only buy the Pureharvest almond milk from Woolies, which has 10% almond in it. It's bit pricey compared to others. I saw it going for half price just once back last year, and bought 5 of them back then. Regretted that.

This is probably the worst 'tasting' almond milk at Woolies. But i'll just grab which ever is 50% off at the time and stock up.

  • -4

why are the even allowed to be called "milk"?

    • +15

Why is milk not called bovine mammary secretions?

      • because the term milk goes back thousands of years, and milk is from mamals, not just cows ….. and definitely not from plants.

  • +2

Agree with others, this is the worst tasting and worst mixing almond milk on the shelf.

  • I've grown to like the Aldi version, might give this a try. Every time I drink it I always think "show me the tit on an almond"

  • -1

There is nothing milky about these. They should be called nut juice, oh, wait…

    • +1

Same colour as nut juice, flavour not necessarily far off either

  • Note that this doesn't have any added calcium. Brands like vitasoy and so good add calcium so it has the same amount as cows milk.

    • -1

Easy-enough to do with powder, IMO

  • Is almond milk healthy?

    • depends on what concentrations and how much is consumed.

    • Depends what you mean by healthy, it's a lot less calories per serve than cows milk, but less protein and calcium. It's lactose free so suitable for lactose intolerant people.

  • +2

While I am a fan of almond milk, this brand tastes horrible.

  • I agree, it doesn't taste the best, but also leaves out all the crap in the others. So much gum one can put into this stuff, no gum in this.

  • +2

Peanut Butter Milk I would imagine to be yummy

  • +1

This product is really poor quality. I bought it once and would never again

    • Yep, bought a couple on special before, and keep bypassing the last one in our cupboard for the other brands!

Maybe should use it to make a smoothie to mask it!

      • That's what I do, make a smoothie and you barely notice it's there.

Isn't raw almond said to contain cyanide? If so how safe to consume these almond milk?

    • So I guess Woolworths sell cyanide in the nuts section?

      Right….

    • Yes they do, but only in very small amounts. Most stone fruit kernals and apples seeds do as well. An adult would need to eat something like 1-2kg of raw almonds in a sitting to be at risk of dying. Even at 10% almonds (this is 3%), you would need to drink 10-20L to get the same amount.

  • dropped in to Woolworths newmarket but almond milk version was not $1.40 I think about $2.80 (on sale) Noted the saturated fat content of the coconut milk one and gave it a miss.

  • +1

    Australia’s Own Organic Almond Milk has only 3% almonds - Inside Out's contains 11%, Pureharvest's 10%

Australia’s Own Organic Coconut Milk has only 10% coconut cream - Inside Out's contains 7% coconut, Pureharvest's 20% coconut milk

    • John West tuna: 47% tuna.

Home brand tuna (like 75% cheaper): 46% tuna.

It's amazing, once you learn to read. THe home brands often have MORE of the product than the original products. Coconut cream for instance is one where the 3x more expensive version has much less than the home brand.

Groceries are all trust games after that point.

      • sirena tuna: 73.5-81% tuna - afaik no private label is better or has more than the best brand :)

        • Changed my tuna world.
