I'd spend ~$100 more and get the XB271HU IPS Model. I mean once you're spending that much on a monitor, might as well get the one with significantly better picture for a bit more. I have the XB271HU and it's amazing.

    • TN is getting quite close to IPS as far as colour reproduction, certainly enough for gaming, and it's also significantly faster than IPS which may matter if you play competitive games.

it's also significantly faster than IPS which may matter if you play competitive games.

1ms vs 4ms is not noticeable let alone "significant" unless you're at the point where you're getting paid to go to LAN events for a twitchy FPS, in which case monitors would be provided anyway. IPS all the way.

I agree but TN panel is for people who play FPS gaming or a very fussy owner that don’t like to deal with the BAcklight bleed issues on the IPS panels.

      • As someone starting to look at this class of monitor can you explain a little more about this?

        • So far from what I read, TN panel has a faster response time compared to Ips panel. Normal person might not notice the difference between 1ms vs 4ms panel. The pros on competitive gaming first person shooter games might notice differences. But for colour reproduction, I personally prefer Ips panel over TN panel.

        • Speaking as someone who has owned high refresh rate monitors of both the TN and IPS varieties, 1ms TN vs 4ms IPS panels as a response time is completely negligible for me as a "competitive gamer" playing MOBAs and FPS games. If you're at the level where that incredibly minuscule difference impacts your gameplay you're already getting paid and sponsored with monitors. "Backlight bleed" is when on a black/very dark screen there is a noticeable light "bleeding" into the picture from the edges. This is both subjective in how much different people even notice it, what games would cause it to be noticeable and which panels even have it in varying degrees, so don't let it scare you off. IPS is the way to go.

        • @airal3rt:

You conclude IPS is the way to go. The only advantage I see is better colour reproduction. I'm not doing graphic design or anything else that needs that accurate colour. Would a TN not be enough and save $200-300? Mostly gaming and web browsing.

        • @tdst-taboo:

The advantage is it provides a far better viewing experience.

If you were looking at a TN and IPS panel with the same specs side by side you'd shell out the extra for the IPS, I guarantee it.

100% agreed, I thought with my new TN 4K I. Found get rid of my QHD IPS… Nope, I just have both now, once you Go IPS you can't go back :)

I also only game FPS pretty much and haven't ever noticed a difference from the 1ms and 4ms between the panels

    Should add 144hz to title

    • Thank you I have added it.

  • This post makes me feel old.

  • Awesome monitor, I snagged one brand new for $720 a few days before Xmas, $790 is a fair price if you ask me.

      • Ok sure

  • Waiting for next IPS deal to buy a new monitor. Thought might just wait for CES.
