  • $50 yesterday? That's a complete rip. Good price now though

  • what is class 4?

    you're kidding right.
class 4, complete crap. the lowest speed SD card
Sony, able to make anything incompatible with non Sony.

what fool would buy this, at any price?

    • What are you on?
      1. Class 2 is the lowest speed.
      2. Its an SDHC card, that is a standard.

This card will work with anything. I doub't Sony would put their own name on a slow class 4 card, it is probably a re-badged Sandisk or Kingston. ie. for $21 shipped its a good deal.

      • I doub’t Sony would put their own name on a slow class 4 card

Funny how things go full circle, I seem to remember using a similar line of reasoning in a discussion with you on Verbatim HDDs once Stumo, as I recall you disagreed with this logic, I believe your response was something along the lines of "Verbatim don't make HDDs, it's probably a Samsung"! Clearly this business practice is ok as long as it's Sony? :p

I probably wouldn't go so far as to say this is a good deal, but it's not a complete rort, especially for a local price! However, ~$18.50 shipped will get a Transcend 8gb class 10 from MyMemory.co.uk; or ~$29-30 will get a 16gb ;)

        • Hahha yeah I remember that. I was just having a bit of a troll because at the time it seemed like every time without fail some tool would post saying, "but its a Verbatim", or "but its a Iomega" like it was better than a Samsung/Seagate/Hitachi/Toshiba/WD.

It is important to note though that those 5 are the ONLY manufacturers of laptop drives. Whereas flash memory is built using many different controllers etc. which have an effect on speed and reliability.

So I stand by what I said about this flash card 100%.

  • Class 2 is the slowest. But yeah have no idea how good Sony's SDHC cards are in comparison to other brands like Sandisk, Transcend etc.

  • I bought my SD card from Umart for 21$ 4 months ago for class 6. Not a good deal.

Might ad it was a micro SD card with an adapter

    • What brand is it though, and did you actually test the card speed?

All classes are equal, its just that some are more equal than others.

      • haha Yea I did a benchmark on my phone and it was 6 mbps.

        anyway link:

        19$ for normal SD card

        http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2…

22$ for Micro version (thou class 4) I think thats the one in my phone :D

Edit* Cant find the one I bought. Seems to be discontinued from Umart (as per my history of purchased items)

        • You need to test it out of the phone for a proper result…

My Class 4 8GB Sandisk microSD is faster than anything else out there by a good margin. That includes Trancend and Lexar Class 6 cards.

So there is no reason to doubt the real speeds of this Sony card based on the minimum worst case sequential write (class) rating.

Given the age of the card, I reckon there is a good chance this Sony will be quite fast.

22$ for Micro version (thou class 4) I think thats the one in my phone :D

          I have a Kingston 16GB C4 miroSD, and it gets 9.9MB/s write.

    • i never like to buy a micro SD with an adapter if all i needed was SD, some equipemnt doesnt seem to like the adapter..

i dont know.. maybe its just my crappy equipments :P

  • Total rip off for a C4 device

    Patriot Class 10 for less

  • this deal is OK but not a bargain.

mind you MSY sells 8Gb, class 10 SDHC for $20.
(and MSY is not even the cheapest nowaday.)

  • Guys, this includes shipping. And please don't get caught up in the Class wars, they mean jack…

eg. my old Sandisk 8GB Class 4 microSD gets 15MB/s sequential writes every time, technically, that could be called a Class 15 card, if such a thing exists.

Also my 16GB Kingston Class 4 microSD gets 9.9MB/s seq writes, that could basically be called Class 10, and would be called class 10 by some lesser manufacturers.

    wiki quote:

"The following are the ratings of some currently available cards:

    • Class 0 - These cards do not specify performance, which includes all legacy cards prior to class specifications.
    • Class 2 - Minimum of 2 MB/s performance. Lowest speed for SDHC cards.
    • Class 4 - Minimum of 4 MB/s performance.
    • Class 6 - Minimum of 6 MB/s performance.
    • Class 10 - Minimum of 10 MB/s performance."

Remember that's MINIMUM speeds… most cards you buy far exceed the above speeds.
The above card is perfectly fine and is pretty well priced imo.
Class 4 is most certainly NOT the slowest card out there… but it's also not the most expensive either. For most digital camera's class 4 is perfectly acceptable at 4Mb/s. It's only when you start taking HD video where faster speeds are nice…. and even then class 6 will do it a little better, but hardly mandatory. Class 4 is fine folks.

    • Remember that’s MINIMUM speeds… most cards you buy far exceed the above speeds.

A lot of cheap cards from china are absolute fakes and are just junk with a class 10 sticker on them .
This is a good price for genuine and local , but not quite a bargain to me , Worth a mention for those who don't like taking the risk with e-bay and the like though .

  • Went to the Charlestown store today and it was sold out. Also, the guy said that they actually printed the price wrong. Should be $41 not $21.
