It prints black and white documents at 8 IPM and can print at up to 4 IPM in colour.

I thought it was pages per minute? Is that the printer version of Chinese mAh?

A: "ppm" stands for pages per minute,"ipm" stands for images per minute.

    I have no idea.

This is the everyday price. Where's the bargain?

    • It was same price last year.

  • +1

This printer is actually pretty decent for the price. But it is missing an essential cable, which costs about $8 on its own. So the real price is closer to $30. Also the starter ink runs out pretty quickly so you'll have to pay for that too.

    • Is it just missing a USB to USB cable?

      • +1

The usb cable that runs from the printer to the CPU. It's a standard cable so you could just use the one from your old printer, but if you don't have an old printer then you'll have to buy it separately. Pretty dodgy of them not to include it.

This has been standard practice since forever.

Cheap inkjets will cause no end of frustration, and are generally a false economy.
Unless you're grabbing it to print until you're out of ink, you'll usually find that due to head priming/purging, you'll get a handful of prints at most before it needs new carts.
If it's a printer for the kids homework you're looking for, hang out for a $39 mono laser from Office Works.

      Agreed. Get a Brother.

      • Why is a Brother branded printer better?

      • Why not get a Sister?

        /s

    • Please link the $39 mono laser printer you speak of. It's not here:

      https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology…

      • None up there now, else I'd of linked it, but normally see one up there once a month or so. It's usually a Fuji Xerox or Brother HL series.

For anyone in the market for a new printer I got the Brother MFC J680DW at Harvey Norman today for 84$ down from 155 or so.

    • $74 after cashback

    • Are you planning on using genuine or a particular brand of generic ink?

      • I usually start up using branded ink and then move over to generic. I think our last Canon got messed up with generic. It's 18 months old and won't print blue…..it's all pink…..when it comes to colour…..B& W is still ok…
Do you have an opinion on using generic?

        • I currently have a HP Officejet 6700, wouldn't recommend it in general. Started off with genuine ink, then switched to generic ink. Feel like it has screwed up the printer, cleaning the print heads etc doesn't work.

Looking to get a good value printer with good value cartridges, whether genuine or a reputable generic brand.

@Marrk: Sounds like the same issue we have with our Cannon. We used Greentec re-manufactured inkjet cartridges…. what we saved in buying generic we are now spending on a new printer. Having said that I absolutely loath buying and throwing out tech stuff and creating more landfill.

  • This is the wifi version of the MG2460 which has been as low as $12. I already have that printer (and a few xl cartridges) but am thinking about getting this for the wifi functionality.

  • Can you scan and save the output to a PDF or JPG file instead of printing it out? Will the scanner work eventhough the printer may not have ink?

    • Yes to all of the above.

  • +1

    Here's to landfill!

  • We bought a cheap laser printer for everyday use. Much better as It doesn’t chew through the ink priming the printer every time we start it up.

  • +4

According to the box (because I got one yesterday) it has standard cartridges included. Standard carts weren’t less than $60 anywhere I could see. We are just replacing the last one that we got for $24 which lasted us a year, depends how much you print (and how much you print at work for free :))

  • could someone link the cartridges please - my cannon needs a refill

  • So cheap.
I've always hoped for black white laser printers to be this cheap so I can buy after market toners which can be cheap and in my experience always reliable……
