  • Won't be applicable to NSW, i don't think.
    I mean OW price beat.

    • Maybe if OP posts a photo of the Officeworks receipt?

    • +1

Why not? Worst case scenario + postage as well

  • +2

Very good price according to StaticICE.

    Normally $147 at Officeworks.

Some of the reviews on Amazon aren't too great though.

It might just be me, but I had more Seagate failures than WDs. So I ain't buying anymore Seagates. Storage isn't something to cheap out on. A couple of TB worth of data is more valuable than the price difference.

      • I did mention the Amazon reviews. Abrupt death might be an issue…

        • +3

The thing with negative reviews is, you don't know how widespread the problem is.

People who have a fault with it are going to let you know about it. But for people where it works fine, no issues. They aren't going to write a review to say, "it didn't die on me. It seems to do as advertised." That's boring and not telling you anything valuable. A product is meant to do as advertised. This is a problem with all user reviews. Unless someone is rapt with the product, people that don't like something are more likely to review it.

Art is a different matter. Someone who likes a movie or game or TV show will want more people to try it. But a HDD is not art. There's not a whole lot to talk about. No one falls in love with HDDs.

So what percentage of HDDs died? Impossible to infer. The Amazon reviews are actually 63% are 5 star. 1 star is only 22%.

        • @lostn:

Well, WD has 4.3 stars overall

          https://www.amazon.com/Black-Passport-Portable-External-Driv…

          Seagate has 3.9 stars overall

          https://www.amazon.com/Black-Passport-Portable-External-Driv…

So while we can't infer the actual failure rate, it would seem WD have more favourable review overall.

        • @garratt torlesse: With 12 times the amount of reviews due to its popularity.. The Seagate with 316 reviews is a small sample size.

        • +1

          @garratt torlesse:

Not sure why y'all looking at user ratings.

          This is where it's at.

        • @AngryChicken:

Because they are all desktop drives, we are looking at portable drives?

The operating environments for portables varies greatly, some are rough with them, some gentle, some leave it on/attached 24/7, some connect as needed. Dramatically than desktop drives where they are typically on 24/7 in a stable environment.

        • @garratt torlesse: Yeah but apart from these being 2.5" drives? Exactly, no reason.

        Amen brother!

I got vintage Jenna Jameson videos from a bygone era.

        Family photos too

          Hopefully in separate folders

@dangerdanger: this deserves more up votes

        • +1

          @dangerdanger:

I dunno.. I'd probably be proud for / jealous of any male relatives appearing in Jenna Jameson.

        • Who's Jenna Jameson?

        • @AngryChicken: Ask juiciness who might show you their family photos / vintage porn!

        • +1

@dangerdanger: This is a family-friendly website bro. Get with the program.

      • This 4tb WD works out to around AU$160 delivered: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Passport-Portable-External-Driv…

Can we trust Seagate again ?

    • +2

      Yes Seagategate.

    • What was the controversy with Seagate?

      • I think pepitovfe is referring to the incident where running the update/status software released by Seagate would cause any Samsung NVMe SSDs in the system to become bricked. The drives had to be RMA'd back to Samsung to be fixed, and people who were outside the warranty period ended up with paperweights.

    • +6

you can't trust ANY hard drive.

everyone would do well to remember that!

  • USB 3? Can it be use for an external drive with an xbox?

    • Product page says

      Quick Specifications

      HDD Capacity - 2TB
Drive Type - Hard Disk Drive
      Interface Type - USB 2.0, USB 3.0

    • Yep.
Your xbox will ask if you want to use it for media/photos, or for games and apps.
If you select games and apps, the xbox will format the external hard drive.

Ive been running seagates for over 4 years almost daily use with no problems.

    • +2

Same here, well over 5 years.and a 3TB expansion which I've dropped a couple of times (not recommended), still going.

      This is a good deal for a 2TB, tempted. But I think I've got about 6 to 8 1.5 to 3TB drives… I think that's enough for now.

  • +1

Does this work as a PS4 slim internal?

    • I wondering also, ps4 pro internal fit ? Of course would have to crack portable drive case open etc

  • +1

Just a heads up: I never had a portable Seagate fail until I bought this drive. It was dead within a week. Thankfully Officeworks replaced it without hassle and the replacement drive has been fine (for now). Didn't realise the drive had such a reputation for failure until I saw those Amazon reviews!

    • The Seagate slim drives are utter garbage. We sold a bunch to clients, failure rate was 80%. If you care at all about your data, you'll buy something else.

  • office work will not price beat - as it is special price :( just went to essendon OW

  • Hello Mates. Officeworks(West Ryde, NSW) did the price match for me.

  • +1

$80 at CCPU computers Carlingford Sydney for those in NSW

  • Is Seagate shuckable? I am told WD aren't and Toshiba are.

    • +1

      Seagate mostly are.

  • Correction, I was referring to the Slim drive.

  • Just picked it up at Officeworks Pakenham for my Xbox one s. It works well. Thanks for the tip!
