The original price will come up as $129 & with the promo code, it shall come down to $103.2.

Only white colour left available for the 2TB but I don't think this will be any issue.

I don't follow these too closely but $100 for 2tb seems average, especially with no local warranty

    • Still the cheapest out there nowadays compared to the likes of Good Guys & MSY.

Plenty of seagate and other wd
Was defending my claim that it is an average price

That's the updated version which many people don't like. Western Digital made the design uglier, switched the edges from round to sharp, increased the physical size of the drive and it even weighs more. I don't think it's fair to compare WD drives to cheaper options such as Seagate or Toshiba either. WG have much better drive reliability and come with a three year international warranty instead of the regular 1 year seen in other brands.

        • @Tyrx: With a portable HDD usually the sata to USB connector fails though, so being able to remove the drive is important.

WD portable drives are non removable, they're soldered to the USB board. Seagate's tend not to be soldered.

Drive reliability also tends to be due to the model, not the manufacturer.

This can be seen in the data failure rate results backblaze releases every 3 months, as seen here.

There's little point in paying more for a hard drive that has the same failure rate, especially when the cheaper one can often be fixed (by replacing the sata to USB board).

Personally, I use WD Red drives as I find them to be reliable and fast, but for portable drives, I use Seagate since they perform the same as WD, they're cheaper and if if dies, chances are the drive itself isn't dead and can be fixed for a few dollar or used as an internal.

Why wouldn't this have local warranty?

They are based in Alexandria NSW

      • Shopping Express will try to fob you off to the manufacturer instead of dealing with it themselves. I'm sure they will accept it if you pressure them enough - they simply hand you easy ammunition for a successful chargeback if they don't. With that said, you can still deal with Western Digital directly, but they will require that you send the drive to Malaysia.

  • From memory this is the model that is compatible with Xbox one, to expand the memory. Can anyone else confirm?

    • Looks like it but do your own due diligence.

Had the SATA to USB part on one of these die so the whole thing ended up in the bin instead of being able to salvage the drive

    • Chisel your way in!!
