At What Temperature Do You Like Your Swimming Pool Water?

we recently bought a house that comes with a solar heated pool. I'm learning a lot of new things about a swimming pool as I have never owned one before.

For those that have a swimming pool, what temperature do you guys like to have the water?

18-20 degrees without a pool heater
25-28 degrees seems like the normal temperature to have it with a pool heater

Don't heat it until you work out your preferred temp. Despite it being solar heated, there are costs with pumping the water around the solar system.

I don't know what our pool temp is, but it is not heated and def warm enough now and will remain so until the end of summer. I find an ocean swim a bit chilly below 20, the pool is probably closer to 23-24 before swimming doesn't give you that chilly feeling when you get in.

Over about 27 and you just don't get the full cooling effect in summer.

pumping the water around the solar system

Yeah, I guess that would be kinda expensive

      • Gets cheap around Uranus.

        Foreskin temperature.

I keep it at 25 degrees.

Swimming in warm water for long periods is kind of unpleasant, because your body heats up and you start to sweat.

Avoid wearing normal cotton/denim/wool clothes in your pool and don't let anyone in if they're not wearing proper swimmers (nylon, polyester, lycra etc.) or polyester board shorts. Cotton, linen and wool are not as durable as the the swimming materials mentioned above and they can harbour bacteria and leach their dyes into the pool more easily. It affects the filters and water quality.

Pump will cost about 25c per hour to run and the solar should raise the water temperature about 6 degrees

Invest in a pool blanket and that will preserve the water temperature and save a heap on running the pump

    Poll should be:
    18-20 degrees
    21-24 degrees
    25-28 degrees
    29+ degrees

:) PS. 25-28 is the best.

    • Is that the temperature of urine?

Best temperature to disguise these things..

  • I like it above 26 but mine doesn't have a heater so it stays at 18 or below which feels too cold for me. So I clean the pool once every 1-2 weeks but swims maybe once or twice a year when it gets 38-40degree outside.

  • Thinking about this a little further: Why do you swim in your pool? To cool down, for fun/play or for exercise? I use ours to cool down, the kids only go in when its hot (so to cool down), so we don't really need heating. If it was a play/fun then heating will increase the amount of time you can use it. If it is for exercise, you don't want it too hot to do laps during summer, but heating in the shoulder months will extend our swimming season.

    • We have 2 toddlers. so the pool has been set for about 28-30 degrees for their comfort, because they swim and play in the shade of the pool rather than the sun.
