is it worth spending that much money on Vaccum cleaner as generally their life only 2 years?

    • +1

      I think it is

    • +3

Well worth the investment if you use it regularly.

    • +8

What makes you think they only last 2 years?

      • +1

how long your previous one lasted and which one you had ?

        • +3

I have a V6, only had it for 18 months but mum has had one for over 3 years, both with no issues.

The only thing that really goes is the battery, and you can buy replacements on eBay.

        • +1

          @Scab: & how much battery costs ?

        • +1

          @ozyboy:

V6 battery about 45-50, V8 about double that.

        • @Scab:

Thanks for that eBay info for replacement battery. Mine is still good and might be over 2 years old now.

No, it is absolutely not worth spending $600 on a vacuum. We have a dyson, not that model, and it is terrible. They are overrated and overpriced.

      • -4

Bring on the downvotes people. They're still an overpriced and overrated piece of plastic rubbish.

        • +3
          • Everything is plastic these days, so what is it about these that makes them rubbish?
          • What about your chosen model is terrible?
          • When you discovered how rubbish it was, did you replace it within warranty in case it was simply a faulty unit?
          • If the replacement was also rubbish, how was the retailer's and/or vendor's customer service in terms of replacing it for not being able to do its job?
          • How is the model you chose different and/or the same as the one currently on offer in this post?

Your review is not very informative…

@Msquared: some parts on it look like they are designed to break, like the clip that you flick the empty it. But my main issue is they it fills up super quick, the full line can be reached after vacuuming a single room. Other problems are the it clogged very very easily near the barrel and you need specialist screw bits to dismantle it to get the rubbish out. There is no question in my mind that part is an absolutely terrible design. With regards to replacement it is not faulty, it is just a bad design. We complained to them and they sent a new head, as if that was going the solve the issue. Also the design of the handle can pinch the crap out your hand if you hold it in a certain way. Again another absolutely terrible design. As stated it is a different vacuum to the 1 posted here.

          @MikeKulls:
I'm referring to the stick vacuum but I have to agree with some points. The grip could be more ergonomic and comfortable to hold. Why not a more curved handle or comfortable material for the grip? It's $800 vacuum after all.

It does fill up quickly but stick vacuums are designed to be used and emptied frequently. Having said that the V6 is a pain to empty because hair and fibers would get stuck especially if the barrel is over capacity. Obviously it was so much of an issue that Dyson improved on this in the v8.

        • @bangmango: I can't fathom spending $800 on a cordless vacuum. If you spend that on cordless tools you'll get a pack of 6 tools and 2 batteries.

With regards to filling up quickly ours is a regular corded vacuum and fills up way too quick. Suction is about the same as any vacuum I've had. I just don't get how people can say they "love love love" their dyson. It's an appliance that sucks up dirt. I guess when you spend that much you need to love it.

        • -1

@MikeKulls: I just checked Bunnings, for $699 you get 9 cordless tools + 2 batteries + a charger + 2 tool bags. It really shows what a rip off the Dyson product is. The battery is even smaller in the Dyson than the Ryobi. For anyone who say Ryobi is rubbish you can get similar packs from other manufacturers.

I purchased a V6 animal 2 years ago and after I did, 4 of my friends purchased similar… this is my story.

The upside of these is that unlike with old batteries from many years ago, the batteries last for years, and the charge works for nearly 40 minutes, way more than it would take to vacuum my place twice…

The other HUUGE thing is that you spot-vacuum, and because its cordless you will finish vacuuming before you could even plug a standard vacuum in the wall… so vacuuming isnt a major chore anymore and the kids would even enjoy doing it…

Dyson vacuums, especially the cordless are highly regarded, it's a shame that all their other items are gimmicks… ie, the $1000 lamp, the absolutely horrible underpowered fans etc

      • +1

We have a Dyson vacuum and it is horrible. I just don't get how they are highly rated, our 40 year old Electrolux was so much better. It clogs really easily and is a prick to get unblocked, it fills up after vacuuming 1 room, the handle is designed so it can pinch your skin, it tips over as you pull it along and it pushes the dirt ahead of the brush.

        • Which model stick vacuum do you have issues with?

        • @bxpressiv: it's a regular vacuum. As I said, it is not this model.

        • @bxpressiv: surely you knew from my description we don't have a stick vacuum

        • I did.

    • Love our v8. Vacuuming isn’t a chore anymore. So easy and fun to use even the 4 year old wants to do it.

I feel Dyson's build and engineering with the V8 is particularly good!
Really well thought out. You can practically dismantle the whole thing, clean it up and reassemble. I've not seen that sort of thing on vacs. Even the way the entire suction motor lifts up so that the dust canister cleanly drops your rubbish downwards.. very clever. The older Dyson stick didn't do that (i have one)

The real magic isn't just with the suction on this alone… it's the motorised tools! That's what really separates this from the others (IMO). Whilst the suction isn't as powerful as a plugin one, the motorised tools make this so much more efficient at its job.

Plus the convenience of being cord-free is really hard to forget, once you get used to it :-)

    • Dyson is one of the few brads that actually have a decent repair experience!
They're the opposite to Apple's garbage and can offer decent discounts for loyal users that buy direct from them.
Got 30, or was it 40% off by quoting the serial numbers off prior owned Dyson devices.

Got the older model V6. Been using it regularly for 4+ years. No issues at all.

    • I just bought the V6 on the same deal - and so far great! Also a hell of a lot cheaper

  • got it in the last deal for around 590, (1-2 months back) this is a great product for the convenience and great suction power, I vacuum more now, wife is happy!

    • +2

*I My Wife vaccum more now, wife is I am happy!

      • You are blessed dude!

      • Rarely I heard about that, usually the other way around

  • +1

Good one OP >:( , now I have to explain to my wife why I am $559.20 less in money

    • Tell her you bought some KFC.

      • In your experience has the excuse worked?

        • +9

          I've never met her.

        • Have you managed to pay for it? I'm having trouble at checkout

        • @saiandkid: This does not help you but I had no trouble at checkout, Maybe change browser or disable Ad blocker?

        • @Scab: Well when you do, heads up for KFC lies don't work.

        • @Scab: im here wahahahaa

    • Don’t explain just wrap it up and give it to her for Xmas. Wot woman can resist a new vacuum😉

      • You giving your dishwasher a vacuum?

  • Anyone have experience with Harvey Norman price matching a deal like this?

    • +1

I just off the online chat with them, they do not match offers on eBay.

      • Thanks for the quick reply :) I wonder if you could C&C with Good Guys, get the invoice, and then front up to Harvey's with the proof?

        • From past experience, the invoice will have the full amount of $699

  • I have a DC58 that's close to 10 years old and still going strong. I recently bought a V6. I think the build quality has gone down but still solid units. Used daily multiple times.

  • +1

Awesome price. Paid $630 (V8) for mine and was pleased with that price.
Yes, it's an expensive vac. But no one could be f'd getting out our corded vac, plugging it in, using it…But the dyson gets used 3-4 times daily. And the crap it pulls out of carpet, even after you think it's clean is amazing.

  • Is it worth the $260 price difference from the v7 model?

  • +1

HELP ….I've been trying to buy this Dyson V8 via TGG ebay store for the last 20mins. But whenever I apply code PTGG20 in the "gift voucher, coupon" box at checkout, it keeps saying "This code can't be applied to your order" :(
    Anyone knows why/how come ?

    • Are you using an australian paypal account with an australia postal/billing address?

      • Hi Doweyy, I'm using my Commonwealth Bank credit card which has a Australian billing address.
        Any tips ?

        • +1

Damn that's really weird, works perfectly for me. Maybe live chat with eBay and see if they can sort the issue out for you ASAP.

        • +1

Try the usual, log out and then in.

          Or clear cookies or Private/Incognito.

        • Are you using your paypal account(with the card linked into it)? Because the offer only applies when you checkout with paypal, maybe thats the issue your having

    • +2

Maybe you added Dyson V8 from another eBay store instead of TGG?

  • +1

    dont forget the cashrewards

    • +1

      Nuts. I forgot the cashrewards.

      • +3

        Reported to Tightarse.

    • Thanks. This is why I always read the comments first :-)

  • I bought this yesterday at $200 more before they lowered the base price…

    • Maybe able to return it if unopened for a refund, or there is a fault with it, would not be hanging yourself over it, its not like you sold 10,000 bitcoins for $6 back in 2013.

    • Request a cancel and reorder. Was it click and collect

      • I already collected it this morning, its unopened though. Contacted their ebay account.

        • some stores price guarantee for a week or so…

  • New to cashrewards, do they apply here?
cant seem to find the box to enter the code if I go through cashrewards

    • Log in to cashrewards, click on the link for Ebay (or just go here https://www.cashrewards.com.au/coupons/get-20-off-sitewide-a…) and click the Shop Now button which will then redirect you to Ebay, find the Dyson, click Buy It Now and enter the voucher code (there's a Dyson link on the left)

      • thanks, was probably having a boy look before :)

Actually was trying to get it to work with this
        https://www.cashrewards.com.au/the-good-guys

realize now that its probably not the ebay store

        2.5% cashback vs 1% cashback :)
Ill take 1 if I cant get 2.5%

  • Voucher worked for me … click and collect final price $559.20
    Thanks

  • Anyone knows the difference between this vs V8 Absolute Plus?

    • +1

V8 Absolute Plus has extra "additional tools" according to Dyson brouchure

      • Up top adaptor, Flexi-crevice tool, mattress tool, Extension hose+tool bag
  • Barring the obvious advantages of a cordless stick over a robot vacuum like reaching random corners and ceilings and bug catching Xiaomi robot vacuum version 1 or v6 slim or standard.

Basically which does a better overall cleaning job for carpet floors and vinyl and which one should technically last longer.

I love the idea of automation but if the suction and cleaning effectiveness is only 50% compared to the handheld Dyson V6 or even V8 I might have to reconsider.

In a perfect world I would have both but I have to choose one or the other.

So what do you guys think Dyson cordless v6-8 or Xiaomi robot vacuum version 1?

  • We bought one and never regret it. We use it more often than when we had the corded vacuum.

  • A bit of drama while getting this.

Ordered to pick up the Absolute+, had to go to the store to cancel the order.

Asked if price-match TGG Ebay, answered: NO!!!

Tried to order the Absolute but couldn't check out with pickup option, so had to go with delivery option (+$11.92 for delivery)

Got a call today "We can't delivery to Parcel Locker address, we will have to cancel it!!!" -> me: "Can I pick it up instead?" -> "OK, but no refund for delivery fee!!" -> me: "Ok" ('_')
