Western Digital WDTV HD Media Player - Clearance - $105. (+$4.95 handling? for pickup)

62

I don't know how many they have in stock, but this is a good price for the HD western digital media player. Cheapest on static ice is $147.26.
So it's a saving of around $40 dollars!

…Ordered this with a 1TB HDD, and it was better price than static ice too!

p.s. Don't worry about going easy on me, I've posted once or twice before, therefore I can take it… :P

  • great price!

  • Is this the older model? Is there anything it's missing?

    • yes, the newer version has "live" in the name, this older version cannot natively decode DTS

  • not exactly a bargain. it's the same one here at DSE. 105 is their regular price.

also there's limited stock at OW stores, so u have to hunt around for it.

  • Plus DSE does free shipping.

  • not a bargain. cheaper elsewhere if you want one of these.

    • Can you tell me where? I don't trust the DSE website as they have the same model on their website for 2 different prices.

      • I revoked my neg.

If DSE wont honour it, print it out and maybe some store will pricematch the better model. :)

      • the newer one (for $105) has DTS, the older (for $168) does not.

no idea why the older, discontinued model costs more, though.

OW has free delivery as well, it's just the extra handling fee that makes it more expensive than the DSE version.

Having a "handling charge" is not free shipping. It's just another name for $5 shipping.

      • not true, they charge the handling charge if you do a pickup too, if you ordered from the website.

  • I don't understand all these negative votes and rambling about DSE… I had a look, and they seem to sell the same one for $168:

But what's this one for $105…

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XH9885/wdtv-high-definition-…

They seem to both have HDMI… I'm really, really confused.

    • $105 one is the newer one (the older is more expensive for some odd reason)

the newer one has DTS decoding

The main difference between a WD TV and a WDTV Live is that the latter supports network streaming, ie from another PC on your home network. The WDTV only supports directly attached USB drives.

    Review of the WDTV Live:
    http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/10/22/review-wd-tv-live-hd-me…

The WDTV is now discontinued. The products with "HDMI" on the front are the old WDTV, hence the "clearance" pricing.

Even though it appears to be a product shot of a WDTV Live here:
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XH9885/wdtv-high-definition-…
The specs say nothing about a ethernet port or network steaming, so it's probably the older WDTV.

Here's a comparison from the WD website.

I'm guessing the one the OP has posted is the WD TV(not the live version) which doesn't have the ethernet port to connect to the internet.

  • ditto. OP made a mistake. That happens.

BTW, you can get the real thing from Amazon US for A$118 delivered. They will post to Oz.

    • you'll also need a transformer for 240V

      • Don't be totally daft. It uses an external switch-mode plug-pack of course. All you need is a $2 plug adapter.

This one here (non Live stock) cost $52 from WoW Sight and Sound the other week.

Not that I'd buy from there, just updating everyone.
