Woolworths Half Leg Ham $7/kg (save $2/kg) (Awarded Best Nationally Available Ham at 2017 Australian PorkMark Ham Awards)

150

Woolworths half leg ham is on sale at $7/kg (was $9/kg last week). It wasn't in the catalogue. This is the product that won first prize at the 2017 Australian PorkMark Ham Awards for best nationally available ham. It's pretty hard to beat for Christmas ham in terms of value for money at $7/kg.

Tried the Woolworths free range half leg ham last year ($14/kg) and it was very good.

I hope it won't sell out too early before I can make room in the fridge…

    Best nationally available ham haha.

    • Do you have a problem with the PorkMark Ham Awards?

  • we have to buy the little ones or we would be eating ham through to February. Might see what Woolies has available after Christmas.

  • Interesting given when I was researching this was always very middle of the pack. Obviously it's one of the cheaper hams.

I looked at the picture first and thought it was a bean bag playing tennis.

never did get the connection between Christmas and Pork\Ham. Seafood and the Turkey is normally the tradition but now seems ham is taking over. I like my swine but you walk into any supermarket leading up to the festive season and theres ham everywhere. Turkey's no so much.

You would think in a inclusive society with no religious denominations excluded, all meats would be equally represented. :)

    • Christmas is a Christian holiday… Jews, Muslims, etc don't celebrate Christmas.

I really wish they said "Farmer YYZ won the best national ham. Available exclusively at Woolworths" instead

Only as they excluded pigs from the vote.

How does this compare to Peter Bouchier Ham which I really like as it is not overly salty. Have previously tried hams bought from supermarkets and they are too salty for my liking.

    • Not sure, all I can say is that the Woolworths free range half leg ham (not the one in the deal) wasn't very salty last year.

    • Don't you feel guilty eating ham?

In comparison our free range ham was $32.99 p/kg this year - straight from the farm. Can imagine the living conditions at $7 sheish!

    • You think the pigs you ate didn't have their balls cut off? Teeth pulled? Tails docked? Branded with a hot iron? Mums confined in sow stalls? Fed the cheapest feed that fattens then? Born and killed for nothing more than money?

  • Who else glazes and roasts theirs? How long do you keep it for?

    • I've only done it once. Roasting time would depend on the size of the ham I'd imagine. We've eaten leftover ham for 4-5 days after Christmas but not sure how much longer you can keep it.

  • Common denominator pleb pork made in a cage.

I was shopping once, checking out the ham, and medico mate said "bowel cancer, nice!" as he walked past me. My relationship with processed meat has never been the same since.
