Apparently my 7yr old needs one of the for (her state/public) school for next year, a good deal somewhat lessens the pain for me of having to buy an Apple product. Guess what she is getting for Christmas? But not tempted to buy another for the fun of it.

for school this is more than enough, my kid is using 32gb @ school and there is heaps of space even after usage of 1 year.

i didn’t realise until my sons told me …. his tablet is supplied by the school and they own it …. he can’t take it home …… so i think there are restrictions on what schools can demand parents supply and what needs to be supplied as the government funds schools.

It depends on the program the school decides to go with: some, like your son's will purchase the iPads as their own property, and assume the responsibility of maintaining and managing the fleet, others, like my kids' school, run it as a parent funded program where the kids can take it home and the family assumes responsibility for maintenance.
BTW - I actually work for a company that supplies to schools for these programs, and can honestly state that the price offered in this post is better than what we can get under education pricing.

No competition. This. Android tablets are dead in the water. Apple are the only game in town for tablets now. Only they offer a ui and OS optimised for tablets, not to mention a truckload of tablet optimised apps. I say this as someone who prefers the Android OS (I have an Android phone).
Strange comment. The S2 is a great Tablet and no idea why you would say why Android tablets are dead in the water? I use both and they both have their pros and cons. Android is my choice based on the apps I need for certain things and the iPad also gets used. Having said that, its a personal choice and both are excellent. Android are well and truely still and always will be also a great choice.
Yeah agree with Borg. I own an S2 for past 2 years, with the (now-defunct) Telstra Prepaid mobile plan I have been able to purchase many Android apps and games. S2 is still a powerful tablet which I use to fly my DJI Phantom 3 Advanced drone with. I say this as someone who is using an iPhone 8 Plus.

Any experience faulty screens on their ipads… I have an air 2 and it looks like the panel is dying colour bleed and looks inverted most of the time.. I reckon its a manufacturing fault… this one doesnt leave the house gets used a little and never been handled by kids or abused… kicker is it's only 18 months old but with only a one year warranty am I shit out of luck.
Kids have ipads that get absolutely trashed and theirs are fine… ironic !! $350 for a new screen or $400 for anew ipad I think not.
Take it to an Apple store. They will likely fix it for free.
FYI you have consumer law that protects you for the second year of it's life. So definitely go to an Apple Store and you'll get it covered under warranty!
