whatever Pet insurance you go for make sure you go through the policy carefully and think about what you want to cover. $4,000 doesn't cover much if your cat/dog is badly injured or suffers a major illness. We went through $1000 in one weekend when our cat was in for observation, testing and rehydration with an emergency clinic. She racked up $9,000 in vet bills before her, multiple, illnesses caught up with her. Look at the out of pocket expenses and how they are applied. You may have an excess per illness, and old cats/dogs may suffer from multiple problems. We had no problems with our claims but make sure your vet is OK with doing the paperwork that would be needed if there is an issue.
The main thing pet insurance gave us was a chance to regroup once the pet was out of the initial danger phase and work out the long term plan; this plan may include that the pet is suffering so much that euthenasia is the best option.
