Last time they ran the 65" TV (3 months ago?) my local store had at least 25

      • +14

He probably shops at the same ALDI as Broden.

  • Could the TV fit into the trunk of a regular hatchback?

    • +7

No, we have a Grand Cherokee and it was a tight squeeze

    • +16

What is this trunk you speak of only know of a car boot?

      • +17

Maybe he drives a Toyota Elephant.

        • +2

          I think they're a hybrid, Toyota Pachyderm.

      • Maybe in the bonut?

      • -3

He/she must be from North America where they call a car boot as a trunk.

    • +1

Also it is recommended that you keep tvs upright for transport.

      • +1

Well I was able to fit one in small hatchback Honda Jazz !

        • +3

          In how many pieces?

        • +3

Honda Jazz ain't no regular hatchback! They are rooomy.

        • @Chris12345: Yeah, missus has a Jazz & I keep telling her it's almost a small wagon except in name for people who want the room without being seen to drive/own a wagon. Could be/do a lot worse; at least she didn't buy a Jeep.

        • @pennypincher98: in one piece and over an year ago , still working as new

      • +4

I believe that this was mainly an issue with plasma tv's, not so much lcd/led. However, upright is their natural orientation so probably still holds true (just in case).

        • +6

I know when I see TVs in their natural habitat, they've always been standing upright.

        • +1

Yeah, mainly because they were glass screens and could shatter with the bouncing of the car. Most new screens seem to be acrylic I think.

        • You are correct that it was with plasma tvs. It was due to the gas in the plasmas.

I sold TVs during the plasma vs LCD war.

    • fit one in the back of a VW golf. Knees to chest driving, but hey it worked

      • +1

Knees to chest?? Maybe you work in a circus. :)

      • +1

        Knees to chest driving

Were you the passenger or driver?

      • How long are your legs and how big is your chests?

        • Count me out, got B cup moobs

    • Wasn't there a post a while back where a guy managed to fit this in the back of a Corolla?

    • My car is GOlf hatch (Not Wagon). I put 55inches TV with outer box last month. But you must fold rear seats to make extra spaces. I am sure 65inches will be enough to put your boot space.

    • 55" was the limit with my 2013 corolla. I first wanted to purchase the Changhong 65" but wouldn't fit and ended up with a Hisense 55" inc box.

Could probably fit without the box though

    • I've got too much junk in my trunk personally.

      • I've got too much junk in my boot personally

    • +1

I juuust managed to fit it in a 2008 i30 during last sale in March.
Had to drive with the stearing stuck to my chest though!

  • +3

Still got the 42" Bauhn 4K from a few years back. The thing is fantastic.

    • i'm still using the 42" Bauhn non4k from 6 years ago xD still works!
      720p only though
      $499 well spent

      • +2

Seriously can't go wrong! Paired mine up with a ChromeCast Ultra a few weeks ago and it's perfect!

  • +1

    smart tv?

    • Nope, needs a Chromecast

      • +9

        Nope, needs a Chromecast ULTRA

        • +14

Nope, needs an Android TV box.

the Mi Box is cheaper than an ultra anyway, and does UHD.
Nvidia shield is better, but if you are buying Bauhn, you can't afford the shield :-)

        • +1

          @manic: Roku

        • +2

          @manic:

          The Shield rules

    • if you buy smart TV near this prices, All Android TV specification must be toooooooo low. So you must buy another Adroid TV Box like Mi Box or Apple TV or Shield TV to keep your healthy mental

      • +4

        to keep your healthy mental

I'm going mental trying to discern some sense here lol.

  • +1

Does anyone know if this has a 3.5mm audio jack output?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +2

If it doesn't have 3.5mm you could use an optical to 3.5mm cable.

      • +3

That'll need more than a cable to convert

      • pretty sure there is no such thing as optical to 3.5mm cable

        • exactly

        • There actually is, but not in the way you are thinking of - it doesn't convert to an electrical signal.

Some systems have a combined 3.5mm electrical and optical jack. To use the optical output you need a cable like this one

Be warned the bauhn tv has terrible sound and terrible smart tv user interface to the point you wished you had bought that samsung instead.

      • +1

Both points are valid. I bought my 65" Bauhn TV in Oct 2016 and returned it to the store on in Jan 2017 due to intermittent flickering. Thankfully, they agreed to refund in full. Ended up with a Hisense 65M7000 for double the price from JB HiFi.

From the comments on Whirlpool, it's a bit of hit and miss with these Bauhn TVs as the build quality seems a bit substandard.

      • Guaranteed to make you happy for 60 days? :P

      • I only need 60 seconds though…

        • That's what he said…

    • +4

For $1k+ difference, I think a lot of buyers will find a way to get over it.

Who doesn't use a soundbar or more with a new TV if they are worried about sound anyway?

    • The sound is definitely beyond terrible
I just hook up my sound system to it ;)

    • +1

Alas your right and updating it does not help. Its slow, ugly interface is a pox, even at 1/2 of the price of the samsung 65" also listed on OZB this weekend. Go buy it, its a better screen, faster and better interface and has HDR. You can also do better at COSCO for a TCL and its a better TV (as is HISENCE @HN) and is priced between this POS and the samsung.

If this is for the kids, spare room or a present for someone you like but dont love then by all means but you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! < I kid you not, if they upgraded it id tell you and at this price id be all over it today myself. But as it stands, id rather 520P CRT form bygone ages and a set top box!

  • Not bundled with chromecast ultra this time?

  • Bad TV for gaming/Xbox One X?

Does anyone use one for this?

    • -2

Of course bad. This range TV (Cheaper one's) has low specification and just LED back light. NOT LED screen. So you can just find UHD quality but image render will be too bad

      • Thanks mate, thought the case but just wanted to confirm. Have a higher series Samsung LED from a few years going strong with current Xbox, think I'll wait till I can get the OLED, XoX and NBN trifecta to make the most use of the jump to 4k.

Would 720p content be poor on a 4k tv? Given the jump from 480 on SD tv on current 1080p tv's

    • +1

Remember people, the distinction between OLED which is a type of panel versus LED being an LCD screen of varying type with an LED backlight behind the LCD panel. Manufacturers are putting up so much silly jargon it’s easily understandable to get confused.

For instance Samsung QLED is not a different type of OLED, it’s an LCD panel and not comparable to an actual OLED from LG, Panasonic or Sony in the areas where OLED TV’s provide higher performance as compared with LCD.

      • Silly? It is very deliberate deception. They know how dumb their customers are.

  • -3

I returned mine, not much is on in 4K, that is not Aldi's fault

    Rather a Aldi OLED screen

    • +2

Netflix or Youtube Red has heaps 4k content.

      • +11

        Youtube Red

I still chuckle when I hear Youtube Red. Sounds so wrong.

        • +1

          Redlight….

Youtube is heading that way when you look at all the clickbaity vids

        • +1

Not to be confused with red tube.

        • I reckon they have done it on purpose though, tongue in cheek marketing :)

      • 25mb/s NBN is minimum requirement for 4k netflix though. Certainly something to keep in mind, if you dont already have high speed nbn

    • OLED!

  • +1

Who will be playing the Bauhn panel lottery this time round?

  • Slightly off topic but does any know the model number of the 40" tv on sale this week? I wanted to see if it supports HDMI CEC but cant find any information on it.

    https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-9-d…

  • Is it possible to buy it now and then use the credit card cashback on it?

Or is it only in stock in that day?

    • It's in stock until it runs out.
Which is generally just that day.

  • +2

…. travelling into the future circa late 2018

    Bauhn 65" Ultra HD OLED 4K $1999….

    • Don't compare between OLED and just LED. Its same comparing between IPhone SE and Iphone 4

  • +1

Bigw cat in mail has viano 65’ smart for $777 this weekend only

  • +1

Unfortunately that XBOX price just isn’t competitive with the sales from last weekend.

  • I fit one of these in my 2011 Corolla with the seats folded down.

The image was OK through my PS4 Pro @ 4k, free to air TV did not look great.

The TV lasted one week before it started playing up (turning off by itself randomly). Returned it and received a full refund

    • I fit one of these in my 2011 Corolla with the seats folded down

Where did you sit to drive the car?

      • Drove the car like this huh. :)

        https://youtu.be/VjLRTifjpxA?t=80

        • LOL yeah Mr Bean is great :)

        • @pennypincher98:
Hahaha - I got my wife to drive (who's a lot smaller than me), the front seats were pushed as far forward as they could go (was a tight squeeze). Luckily it was only a 5 minute drive :)

        • @jasonc23: Haha it's always handy to have a small wife you can squish in with all your good finds and deals ;)

  • Managed to fit it in the back of my Audi A3 Quattro 2016, just had to get my Investment Analyst to help as it was a tight squeeze.

  • +4

If your after a 4K TV I am really impressed with Hisense lately. I took a punt on recommendations from here and Whirlpool and it is great.

  • Anyone know the response time? Considering it as a big ass monitor for PlayStation and spare PC …. Or main PC if it's got enough juice for games. Oh and obviously I'm looking on the cheap.

  • +1

Had mine for a year so. Awesome with 4k fetchtv netflix or hooked up to 4k pc and surround amp.i cannot imagine a better picture. Not good as standone without these. Remotes a bit crap too.
Overall its a steal for this price.

    • Yeah I bought a cheap 4k and my far older Sony gives a much better picture on anything that aint 4k. Standard TV looks absolutely woeful. The more expensive TV's have expensive processing / smoothing which makes a huuuuge difference on a crappy source.

    • oh yeah, forgot how bad that was too ~ remote is shite!

  • Can we remove the UHD TV tag?

It just seems to be splitting up the posts, and it makes it a bit annoying.

  • +1

Anyone have an opinion on how this would compare to a HiSense 65N7 (or even N6, N5) if I was using an XBox One S for the smarts (Plex, Netflix, FTA w/upscaling, etc) ?

  • Big w just have a new deal on Viano. This or the Viano? Same price. Viano

    • 60 day satisfaction guarantee.

      Try both

    • I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that they're the same thing. Certainly when BigW were stocking 4K "Polaroid" TVs for this kind of money the support company was the same for both and the remotes would each others…

I went down that track and ended up with a $799 Changhong from BingLee and that's been brilliant. Sadly though they seem to have stopped stocking it now.

  • +1

I went and got one of these, picture quality is ok for the price but be warned, can't even play 4k videos using USB so that's pretty useless, my USB 3.0 drives aren't recognized either, only 2.0 drives work.
