    oh man!

I bought a overpriced GoPro last week for my sister's birthday. This would of been so much better.

      But GoPro is more popular.

GoPro optically is a superior device. I find the KeyMission 170 images a little softer so if you can't put a price on amazing photos then the GoPro is the winner.

Plus for me the FPS on the GoPro is far superior 120 (1080) and 240 (720) FPS is amazing if your into anything fast paced.

      • Whilst I diss the GoPro 5 i bought for $380 for a first time actioncam user, I must admit I do love my GoPro 4 Silver.

        • I've owned every GoPro up until the 5, I hate their blatant price grabs but I kind of want the best in class and unfortunately for now they have that title easily.

You should already have the code for 5% off (or sign up with a new email to get it instantly).

      • What's this 5% off deal?
Is that just for joining JB Hifi website?

        • Sign up to their deals newsletter.

        • @lukethefish: Thanks, alas, looks as though I'm too late to get that, I can't see any mention on the newsletter I just received .

  • Good deal thanks. The Keymission 360 is also half price (249.50 instead of 499) for those interested in 360 videos.

    • Glad I watched a few reviews before purchasing (not). Saved another 50%

      • It's actually a great little camera with a terrible app. If you plan on editing using a PC with software like Premiere or Final Cut then it's great; if you want to share on the go then good luck with that poor excuse for an app.

        • The lens stitching looked pretty bad and the image comparatively fuzzy. I’ll wait for something better.

That or if JB dump them at $99, maybe I’ll bite.

        • Is that the Keymission 170, or 360 that's a "great little camera with a terrible app"?

        • @sam buster: The 360. The 170 doesn't depend so much on the app while shooting.

        • @mr_me450: Thanks.

  • All of the accessories appear to be 50% (or better) off at the moment too. My local JB had the suction cap mount ticketed at $64, website at $49 down to $25.40.

    • Accessories on the website say "In Store Only" and "not available for Click & Collect". Unfortunately I can't see any way to check which stores have which stock.

  • I've been looking for an affordable, versatile action cam since my HDCam 4000 failed its waterproof-housing test.

GoPro's are generally beyond my budget (especially when you factor in all of the accessories) and the Sony's all lack something until you get to the expensive models.

I hoped this might be the answer, but the reviews I've seen are mostly terrible, and some of the footage I've seen is surprisingly poor, especially in comparison to the GoPro Hero 5 Black, (which it was originally priced the same as). Maybe the image quality improves if the Image Stabilisation is turned off?
Clearly the RRP is way overpriced on this camera as it doesn't come close to a Hero 5 Black.

Does anyone know how it compares to a Hero 4 Session, (or even a refurbished Hero 4 silver), or Sony AS50 though?

Obviously I'd like a fairly sharp, clear image, and enough waterproofing for snorkelling and swimming pool fun, but I don't need the full smorgmasbord of GoPro video resolutions - I'd be happy with a decent 1080p and 720p options.

the 170 has poor battery life. Deal breaker for those that like being heroess

  • Ahh - just as I decided to take a chance on it, I refreshed the page and the price has gone up to $399. I didn't realise the actual product was a Wicked Wednesday deal.
Probably for the best as accessories look hard to find without paying the silly prices on the Nikon site ($60 for spare battery and $90 for dive housing!).

    • It's back at the half price if you are still interested.

      • Thanks!
And now it's less than half price as the RRP has gone up from $399 to $579!

was gonna pull the trigger but then saw sample footage… the 170 deg angle really makes the fisheye stand out.
think i'll just go for a hero session
