So much for their "This coupon is unique and can only be used once." condition - my code is identical to this one :-D

      Lol, so is mine

I always had a feeling JB was cheating on me behind my back!

  • Looking to get some for the kids. These are cheap enough, no info out there about them though, battery runtime etc.. Guessing these would perform similar to the Aldi pair for $30 this Sat.

Anyone used the XCD's? Also interested to know if they store the last used channel on power off, or reset to a default like the Oricom PMR780's I was also considering.

    • At least the Aldi ones are rechargeable. I got same/similar ones from Aldi before, pretty good except the microphones aren't that great, need to hold them away from your mouth to be clear.

  • With kids how many batteries do you think you will go through, a lot me thinks.

    • I have plenty of rechargeable AAA's, just unfortunate pretty much everything at the end of the price range doesn't use anything bigger.

    Range Up to 6km*

Even with optimal conditions, no. Not even close.

Agree. Tried the Oricom 0.5W, with obstructions (I was inside, other person was on open field, more houses in between) got to just over 200m before started getting choppy, Don't see how you'd possibly get 6km out of 0.5W (I think Oricom claims up to 3km).

    • 6km on 1/2 a watt. Yeah good luck getting that even in the vacuum of space! Oh no I think you can get it if you attach the optional Arecibo Antenna.

  • Are these what are used by the boys on Top Gear/The Grand Tour to communicate when driving?

    • +1

Doubt it. They're probably running 3W or above.

      • Whichever company paid amazon the most to use them.

  • +8

Silly that they are camouflaged. If you drop them in the bush you'll never find them.

    • Lol, that's actually a fair point.

    • +2

Wait, I don't see anything in the pic.

      • Why are you talking into an invisible radio?

    • Shouldn't use these in a bush in the first place

  • Would these work on the same frequency/channel as more expensive Uniden UHF's then my kids could chat with me on mine.

    • Yes. And listen to the truckies on ch40

  • sold out

Check in store. Picked some up at Cockburn about 2 hours ago, was plenty there.

Sneaky JB's though, ticket price said $89 instead of $79 like the website.

    • I think it was $89 on the website until recently.

Actually, just the links have gone bad.

All "instant deals" are here (without the coupon codes though)

    • RYBB link still not working…

      • Looks ok now from here.. Realised links didn't change, must have been a temporary glitch.

  • Just in time to go hunting with our rifles from the previous deal!
    Thank you

So picked up a set, haven't range or battery life tested them yet but here's a few things so far.

Feature wise seem not too bad. They do feel a bit toyish though (as expected really). Transmission sounds clear and loud enough.

If using rechargeable batteries, there is a micro usb port to charge the batteries directly in the unit (hence the 4 included usb cables), fairly slow charge, 70 - 120mA the manual says.

They do store the last used channel at power off.

Has CTCSS (subchannels) to block out stray transmissions and truckie banter, VOX handsfree mode, duplex support for range extender.

Overall, for under 14 bucks a piece, should do the job fine.
