Where do you get $100 on Amex is it by default or targeted offer in AMEX app ?

    • Precisely $898 with 18-55mm Lens Kit BEFORE CASHBACK.

    • Thank you.

The 40mm pancake is super sharp on my 6D .. good lens for the $$

I know! yes, it's not as wide as the 50 1.8 goes, but reading the reviews it sounds like 40mm is a better performer across the range, 50mm is almost unusable fully open.

gearing towards 40mm.. now I need a good deal :) 10% off eBay is not a bad start.

If anybody in Melbourne is interested in this deal but does not have access to the AMEX offer, PM me.

  • Any advice on how this compares to the Nikon D3400?

    Thanks

  • Found this comparison myself.

    http://cameradecision.com/compare/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T6-vs-Niko…

    I’m leaning towards the Nikon

    • +1

this is just a spec comparison. to me, canon has less pixels on the same sensor area, and less pixel density spells better picture quality, which is why one buys a camera :) also, canon provides a better lens selection. but each to his own, canon vs nikon has been a holy war since I can remember.

      • Thanks for the feedback. Interestingly this reviews puts the Nikon ahead slightly. I don’t have a preference either way.

This is from the conclusion here: http://thenewcamera.com/nikon-d3400-vs-canon-1300d-2/

Conclusion Nikon D3400 features excellent core specification compared to Canon entry level DSLR camera, the Nikon features more resolution, better ISO range, advance AF mode and better video recording option. We highly recommend you to buy Nikon D3400 camera

Based on the reviews I’m leaning towards the Nikon.

it always depends on who's paying for the reviews, and those arguments are debatable.

          • more resolution - I already mentioned, smaller pixels equals more noise.

          • better ISO range means nothing. best pictures are achieved in 100 - 400 ISO range, anything up to 1600 is passable, the rest is just fantastic numbers from parallel galaxy, and you need to think twice about what you are doing if you ever need to go higher than 3200. maybe it's time for a new lens with F1.8 lol

          • video shooting.. let's be honest, shooting videos on a photo camera is like cooking eggs on a toaster grill. yes it can be done if you have to, but that's not their strong point by design. I prefer to shoot videos with my phone, and the results are amazing. if I ever need to do some serious video work, I would rather get a device created for the purpose.

        • @kasaresj: 😂 cooking eggs on a toaster grill 👍

  • anyone else having issues with the stupid gravatar? I uploaded a picture months ago, refreshed the cache I don't know how many times, still I have no userpic. useless technology from last century I never heard of before, and don't want to hear about any more. some crap developed by useless people sitting on useless forums for useless people sitting on useless forums discussing their uselessness!

    • ah, finally I figured it out

  • Does anyone know if the included lens has stabilization?

    • +1

I think this kit is with 18-55mm III, which doesn't have IS.
It's a good all-rounder, with a few minor improvements over II IS, but optically the same.

In a word, I think it's a move by Canon to encourage new SLR users to buy new lenses sooner :D
It's a good lens for photos on a sunny day, but for night or indoors photography - get a prime lens on a budget, and you'll be alright.

      • I'm unlikely to buy an additional lenses any time soon so should I buy it? Should I wait on a deal with an IS lens, cheap lens off gumtree?
I'm mostly wanting this camera to take photos outdoors of landscapes and structures. Was hoping this to be a good buy on a budget. I am a fan of Canon cameras for their colour and looked at buying an EOS a few years back. How much of an improvement is this over the days of the 1100?

        • +1

if you intend to take pictures of landscapes and structures during the day, you will be fine without IS.

but if you intend to take any pictures in diminished lighting on the tele end 55mm you will benefit from the IS. in general you can still find brand new kits with II IS on eBay.

over 1100d this has a faster processor and is slightly lighter. otherwise the same

        • @kasaresj: Ok thanks for the advice!
