Sony specifically said they used different materials for it, so it's likely.
I would rather get it locally though, so at least I can make some noise if it does crack.

How is this a deal ? This model has headband cracking issues which are well documented. Please stay away from this model.
Buy the newer model which has more feature and Sony appears to have fix the headband cracking issue. You can pick up the NEW model from $340-350 when on sale
How do you know it's fixed? IT's a new product. These things usually take time to develop.
Sony are aware of the cracking issue on the MDR1000X, which was replaced by the new model hardly a year later. They specifically said the new headband is made with a different material. So it's likely that it's fixed.
PEople who tore it apart to examine it say it's the exact same design as the original. No cracking reported yet though.
