HTC U Ultra 64GB $399 @ JB Hi-Fi (Brilliant Black/Sapphire Blue/Cosmetic Pink) ($299 Possible for Pink w/ AmEx+HN Price Match)

390

YES.It.Has.Band.28. (lol, just in case for those who might ask)

Previous deal at $497 was well received, and at the now even further lowered price, I can't think of another phone to greatly recommend at this price point (…unless if it is too big for you lol).

Stocks may be limited (?), and stores that have the phone in stock seem to be a bit scattered. For those who can't do pick up, JB Hi-Fi is giving me a cost of Express Delivery at $4.99 (somehow cheaper than Standard Delivery) to NSW (postcode 2217 tested).

  • Be sure to grab a portable power bank to go with it.
    Battery life is non existent.

    • +3

Big device, small battery - poor use of space. The U11+ is perhaps a desperate but good attempt at redeeming themselves. 5/7 would consider buying that.

      • +2

Why'd you give it a perfect 5/7 then?

        • -1

It's a reference to a somewhat funny FB post from last year.

        • +3

@albert0pia: Yeah I know. I was referencing that too. However a perfect 5/7 would mean you'd have already bought it, not consider buying it.

    • It scores better in Phonareana's battery benchmarks than the LG G6 which is good considering the G6 has a bigger battery

      HTC U Ultra - 6h 56min
      LG G6 - 6h 09min
      HTC U11 - 9h 03min

I'm using the G6 now and the battery life is okay at best. The HTC U11 has the best battery life of any phone I've used but it's twice the price

For $299 and SD 821…@,can't get any better…

  • +2

Mate it is $299-$399 (depending on Amex offer) - buy gift cards and you might get it even cheaper.

Great phone, grab a power bank but you should already have one. Unless I'm just having a quick trip to Coles or something, I never leave home without one.
Plus the Xaiomi Power Banks are an OzBargainer's choice :)

What you can't get 1/2 out of it?

      • What you can't get 1/2 out of it?

I'm sorry, but I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about or what that is supposed to mean.

        • Sorry 1/3 a day

        • @supabrudda: I didn't say that. I said, "I would take a power bank with me on a day trip/whenever I go out for an extended period of time"

It's just like petrol in your car - the digital display is saying you still have 100kms in the tank. How far do you want to test these sorts of things?
Had a phone in the past that went flat at 16% all of a sudden.

        • @pennypincher98:
          You said

Unless I'm just having a quick trip to Coles or something, I never leave home without one.

Which seems like the battery only lasts 1/2 a day.

So how long do you get from the battery?
I've got a 3yo Note 4 and I get ~4 hours of watching local vids, reading emails, web surfing whilst listening to streaming music. Which is pretty much a day's use.

        • @supabrudda: Thing is, I don't have a U Ultra. I'm just saying regardless of how long the battery time says I can get, I'll still bring a charger. My mate does though and I asked out of curiosity. He said 6 hours of heavy use.

Which is probably not enough to get me through the day, but it's enough for him. Just depends on how much you are going to use it I guess?

  • Bought one..

    • Hi, could you please send me your receipt for pricematch ?

    • Hi bargain crazy, could you please send me your receipt for pricematch ?

      • Sry. Should have made it clear. I bought from JB hifi for $399 before this deal came. Didn't do a pricematch.

  • Did anyone able to price match at Harvey? Online chat of Harvey refused to price match as this is marked as clearance on their website.

    • +1

      Bummer =(

I was literally 1 min away from a HN store 15mins ago, but won't be able to go back and ask. I'm not personally in the market for a phone but more just came across it for a friend. Sorry couldn't do much help here.

      • +1

Thanks. Don't worry, i m 5 mins away from HN so spoke with nice bloke and he is happy to price match. So will be rushing there in 30 mins..

  • +1

Try calling the stores as they have other colours. Matched by HN and got a $1 photo album to make it $400. Thanks op. And I just sold my htc10 for $350 last week. Free upgrade (downgrade?).

    • that sounds epic!

hope you'll have a positive experience with it, but I guess if you are used to HTC handsets, it'll hopefully be an upgrade..? lol

    • I would call the U Ultra from the HTC 10 a sidegrade. They both have their own strengths and weaknesses.
Personally I miss the all metal design of the HTC M7-9 and 10, but the software in each has improved and the glass still is quite the looker :)

      • After using HTC 10 for 5 months, I Am liking HTC sense a lot. Especially you can customise the theme with animated stickers. That's really handy to use.

I moved to LG V20 for a few days But missed the home button in the middle and app drawer. Will compare the both before deciding which to keep and which to be gifted to my mother. :)

        • HTC Sense is absolutely the best 'flavour' of android imo. However, its available on the Play store and this means I could essentially buy any android phone and get HTC Sense on it.

Let us know how the comparison goes :)

  • Finally scored one…Guy at HN knew the drill about AMEX and tried to sell me addtional 1 yr warranty for $44. But i refused and bought $1.8 sim card to make it $400.80…waiting for cashback now….For $300 you can't get SD821 + 4 GB RAM…But first impression is this phone feels huge in hand..Now need to find case…

    • Any initial thoughts on the device?

      • Good screen, nice camera, snappy…yet to check network connectivity, battery life etc…

    • Hi, could you please send pm me your receipt if you don't mind ?

      • We cant share media/file etc via pm.

        • is there anyway you could post the link in here ?

  • +1

I found it an upgrade on tHE HTC 10, screen, speed all appear improved . .

    • The main thing that makes me hesitant to upgrade is the liquid glass instead of the metal finish. Which do you reckon looks and feels better? I guess I could always whack it in a case.

      • The metal HTC 10 is tank like compared to the delicate smooth ultra, I personally prefer the Ultra, too smooth if anything, slides off a flat surface!

        • delicate

That is exactly my fears right there.
I would rather have a tank like, strong metal phone than one that I have to worry about it sliding off a flat surface.

Looks like of I'm getting it, I have to get a case. Maybe a clear one though :)

        • +1

@pennypincher98: Ive got the clear and rugged spigen cases, clear is much better to grip and shows off the handset more . .

        • @revmacca: Yeah I might get this with a clear spigen case as I still want to show off the handset, but want protection and grip. Thanks

        • @pennypincher98: it does come with clear case with phone..

        • @pyramid: Yes, I am aware but if that is anything like the case that came with the HTC One M8 I would get my own. Its not bad, its just not the best protection is all.

  • Do HTC phones get regular updates? When was the last update on the HTC U Ultra for those that own it?

    • HTC is quite good on updates for its well known phones (eg HTC M7-9, 10, U Family) but I don't think as good with its lower desire range.

The One M8 for example, runs Marshmallow. That's amazing for a phone that old.

  • HN online chat matched the price for me and I am more than happy with the pink one. Thanks OP.

  • JB Hifi in Mt Gravatt has around 60 sapphire blue ones left

  • I'm still using the HTC M8, is this HTC U Ultra a big upgrade or not that much difference?

    • Side to side spec comparison: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6074&idPhone2…
(it also has a link for photo and video comparison in the above link)

Usage wise I haven't used both of them, so can't comment much, especially the U Ultra is a slightly bigger form factor (although generally very easy to get used to). If you think you'll be okay to acquaint with no 3.5mm audio jack, it might worth a go.
